The glove-first infielder can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

The 23-year-old slugger was just claimed off of waivers from the Rockies on Wednesday, but the Bombers needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Max Schuemann and unfortunately Fernandez finds himself in roster limbo once again. It seems likely that another team would be willing to take a chance on him on waivers once again.

Andrew Saalfrank

Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports that Diamondbacks’ left-hander Andrew Saalfrank underwent shoulder surgery on Monday and will miss the entire 2026 season.

Ouch. No word yet from the team on what exactly the procedure was or when the injury occurred, but it’ll cost the 28-year-old southpaw an entire season. It’s another tough break for the Diamondbacks who were already struggling for quality bullpen depth.

Roman Gonzalez

BOS Infield #23

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, Romy Gonzalez is dealing with shoulder inflammation and may not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Gonzalez told reporters that the inflammation first appeared at the end of the 2025 season and was getting worse as he began his early offseason workouts. The 29-year-old received a platelet-rich plasma injection a couple of weeks ago. While he’s behind schedule, Gonzalez is still hopeful that he’ll be ready in time for Opening Day.

Kaleb Ort

LAA Pitcher

Angels sent RHP Kaleb Ort outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

The 34-year-old hurler was designated for assignment on Friday and passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll still report to big league camp as a non-roster invitee where he’ll have an opportunity to earn a spot in the club’s Opening Day bullpen with a strong showing in Cactus League play.

Chris Paddack

FA Starting Pitcher #40
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins have reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Chris Paddack.

Heyman adds that it will be a one-year, $4 million deal with the ability to earn an additional $500,000 in incentives. The 30-year-old hurler made 33 appearances (28 starts) between the Twins and Tigers in 2025, posting an underwhelming 5.35 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 112/37 K/BB ratio over 158 innings of work. He’ll give the Marlins a viable veteran option to help round out their Opening Day rotation.

Marcell Ozuna

PIT Left Fielder #20

Pirates signed DH Marcell Ozuna to a one-year, $12 million contract.

The deal, which was first reported on Monday morning, is official now that the 35-year-old slugger has passed his physical. Ozuna will earn $10.5 million in 2025 and the deal includes a $16 million mutual option with a $1.5 million buyout for 2026. He should function as the Pirates’ regular designated hitter which will push Ryan O’Hearn to a corner outfield spot.

Erick Fedde

FA Starting Pitcher #59
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the White Sox have reached an agreement to reunite with right-hander Erick Fedde on a one-year contract.

Fedde joined the White Sox in 2024 after spending the 2023 season overseas and registered a stellar 3.11 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 108/34 K/BB ratio over 121 2/3 innings in 21 starts before he was traded to the Cardinals in a deadline deal. Fedde bounced around and was unable to replicate that success in 2025, so perhaps a return to the White Sox will be what he needs to get back on track. It’s yet another solid move in what has been a surprisingly strong offseason for the White Sox.

Nick Martinez

FA Starting Pitcher #28
Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post report that the Rays have reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Nick Martinez.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times notes that it’s a one-year deal with a mutual option for the 2027 season. Martinez, 35, made 40 appearances (26 starts) for the Reds in 2025, compiling a 4.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 116/42 K/BB ratio over 165 2/3 innings. While he has had success in a swingman role in the past, the expectation is that Martinez will be joining the Rays’ rotation.

Gio Urshela

MIN 3rd Baseman #13

Twins signed INF Gio Urshela to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Urshela was cut loose by the Athletics in mid-August after slashing an uninspiring .238/.287/.326 with no home runs in 197 plate appearances. He’s still a skilled defender, but that’s probably not enough at this stage of his career to earn him a spot on the Twins’ Opening Day roster.
