Knebel was cut loose earlier this month by the White Sox and will continue to attempt to make it back to the big leagues for the first time since the 2022 season when he made 46 relief appearances for the Phillies. The 32-year-old former closer has 72 saves over 312 appearances in the majors dating back to 2014. Given the state of the Angels’ bullpen, there’s a high degree of probability he gets a look in the coming weeks.

Padres manager Craig Stammen told reporters Campusano is banged up after fouling a ball off his foot during Tuesday’s game against the Giants. He’s questionable for Thursday’s series opener against the Cardinals.

The Angels are already without starter Logan O’Hoppe (wrist), so they’re going to need to bring up some additional catching depth, even if d’Arnaud manages to avoid a trip to the injured list. The 37-year-old backstop took White Sox rookie southpaw Noah Schultz deep for a three-run homer before leaving Wednesday afternoon’s contest in the fifth inning. He’s set to undergo further testing prior to Friday’s series opener against Toronto.

Woo threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 21 batters on his way to earning his second victory of the year. It was nice to see him match his season high for strikeouts after he fanned just three batters over nine innings in his previous two starts combined. He’s slated to face the Astros on the road next time out.

The Mariners certainly weren’t going to use Andrés Muñoz for a third straight day, but they were willing to do so with Ferrer. The lefty gave up a long fly to Matt Olson to start the outing, but it stayed in the park, and he then retired the Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubón to end the game. He has a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings out of the pen.

Pérez has a 2.38 ERA in his five starts and two relief appearances this season. He could spend more time in the pen now that the Braves have Spencer Strider back, but we’ll see how that works out. Since the Braves have six starters and off days Thursday and Monday, we wouldn’t expect to see Pérez start during the Cubs series running from Tuesday through Thursday next week.

Young was the only player on either the Mariners or Braves to finish with multiple hits today, and he provided an insurance run in a 2-1 game in the eighth with his third knock. He has four three-hit games this season. Last year, he accomplished that just twice in 77 games after his callup.

The triple should have been caught in right field, but France deserved the break after being handicapped going into the at-bat. The Padres didn’t immediately decide to have him hit for Sung-Mun Song after the Giants brought lefty Matt Gage into the game, and France was charged with an automatic strike because of the delay before his at-bat started. He ended up in a full count afterwards before sending the seventh actual pitch of the at-bat to right field for a triple off Jesus Rodriguez’s glove. France is batting .291/.328/.564 as a part-timer for the Padres. He’s been on the bench each of the last four times the team has faced a righty.

Waldron worked behind an opener today, which proved important since the Padres only took the lead for good in the seventh. If Waldron had come out after five, he would have missed out on his first win of the season. He’s still probably in line for a demotion now, as the Padres are off Monday and could have Lucas Giolito join the rotation afterwards.

Having thrown just 74 pitches, Houser seemed quite surprised to be pulled from a 1-1 game after Matt Chapman committed an error on a Fernando Tatis Jr. grounder to start the seventh. Keaton Winn replaced him and issued a walk before retiring the next two guys. Matt Gage took over at that point and gave up a two-run triple to right on a ball that should have been caught by Jesus Rodriguez and certainly would have been caught by Jung Hoo Lee if the Giants hadn’t been playing him in center to try to add some more offense. That put Houser in line for the loss, and he fell to 0-4 with a 6.19 ERA. He’ll get the Dodgers next.

Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer off him. It’s the fourth straight appearance in which Walker has been scored upon, and his hold on the closer’s role in San Francisco is probably completely gone at this point. That’s good news for Caleb Kilian and Keaton Winn, but with the situation still unsettled and Erik Miller rejoining the mix pretty soon, it’s a tough situation to speculate on in shallow leagues. Kilian might be the best bet. Winn, for what it’s worth, retired two of the three batters he faced after coming into a tie game in the seventh today and was dinged with a run after leaving.
