With the Braves facing a left-handed starter, Kelenic will take a seat with Adam Duvall in the lineup batting fifth. The concern for Kelenic is that he could remain on the bench more regularly, even against righties, when Jorge Soler returns from injury this weekend. Ramon Laureano has been outplaying Kelenic pretty clearly over the last few weeks, so it’s possible the Braves shift Kelenic to be a left-handed hitter off the bench.

Feinsand adds that the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, White Sox, Rangers and Dodgers are among teams looking to acquire a catcher. Hicks is absolutely a name to watch at next week’s deadline after the Marlins bizarre 12-game losing streak, which they finally snapped with a comeback win over the Phillies on Monday, caused them to tumble out of playoff contention. The 27-year-old backstop has put together an excellent season with a .796 OPS with 14 homers and 60 RBI through 95 games. Miami has rookie defensive wizard Joe Mack seemingly entrenched behind the dish, which makes Hicks expendable in the right deal.

McGee gets his first chance with Kansas City with rookie reliever Beck Way hitting the injured list with a back issue. The 28-year-old was acquired from the Brewers in a small trade earlier this month. He’s made 13 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2022.

Way heads to the shelf after posting a respectable 3.86 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 21/10 K/BB ratio across 23 1/3 innings as a rookie this season. The 26-year-old middle reliever is likely to miss at least a couple weeks.

Hernández provides Atlanta with a much-needed multi-inning relief option after passing through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The well-traveled 31-year-old former starter tossed three scoreless innings against the Orioles last Friday in his season debut.

Thomas earns a trip back to the minors after being forced to wear it against the Mets on Monday night due to Atlanta’s relief shortage. He was torched for 11 runs over 2 2/3 innings of work. It’s probably going to be a while before he gets another look in the big leagues.

Bethancourt winds up with the Yankees as emergency catching depth after being released by the Cubs last week. The 34-year-old journeyman hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since getting into 62 games between the Marlins and Cubs back in 2024. He hit 11 homers and stole five bases in 59 games for Triple-A Iowa earlier this season.

Schwarber is dealing with a gastrointestinal issue and will return to Philadelphia’s lineup once he’s feeling better at some point this week. Bryce Harper takes a turn at designated hitter with Alec Bohm moving to first base and Edmundo Sosa entering the lineup at third base.

The Tigers needed a spot on the active roster to activate Javier Baez from the 60-day IL, so Rogers was let go. The Tigers will go forward with Eduardo Valencia as their backup catcher.

Báez suffered a high ankle sprain at the end of April, so he has spent the vast majority of the season on the injured list. He’ll be off the injured list and right into the lineup, playing center field and batting ninth against the Orioles. The 33-year-old has a .256/.280/.397 slash line in 82 plate appearances this season.

Anderson was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox earlier in July. He has a 2.38 ERA in 11 1/3 innings split between the Twins and Red Sox this year.
