Astros designated INF Grae Kessinger for assignment.

Kessinger has been removed from Houston’s 40-man roster to clear space for veteran slugger Christian Walker. The 27-year-old got into 48 contests for the Astros over the last two years, batting .131/.243/.213 with one homer in 70 plate appearances.

Max Fried (elbow) will be activated to start the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Pirates.

He’s back. Fried is likely to have some workload restrictions after throwing jut 52 pitches during his lone minor league tune-up in Triple-A last Friday. The 32-year-old upper-echelon fantasy starter will rejoin New York’s rotation following a 10-week absence recovering from a bone bruise in his pitching elbow. He was off to a strong start with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50/19 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings prior to the injury. The Pirates have been unexpectedly hot the last few weeks, but it’s a decent landing spot right out of the gate.

Rangers selected the contract of LHP Marco Gonzales from Triple-A Round Rock.

Gonzales hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since making seven starts for the Pirates back in 2024. He’s expected to operate in a long relief role out of the Texas bullpen. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Rangers selected the contract of C Austin Wynns from Triple-A Round Rock.

Wynns fortifies the Rangers’ catching depth behind starter Elias Díaz while Kyle Higashioka is on the injured list with a flexor strain. The 35-year-old journeyman signed a minor league pact last month. He went 4-for-53 at the dish during a 20-game run with the Braves earlier this season.

Rangers placed C Kyle Higashioka on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain.

Elias Díaz will handle the bulk of the catching duties for the Rangers with Higashioka likely to miss at least a couple weeks. The 36-year-old backstop has hit .218 with seven homers in 186 plate appearances this season.

Rangers placed RHP Jose Corniell on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow sprain.

Corniell must’ve suffered the injury while surrendering five runs over one inning during a relief outing against the White Sox on Monday night. He’s allowed 10 runs over 4 1/3 innings across two relief appearances in the big leagues this season.

Rangers transferred LHP Jalen Beeks to the 60-day injured list.

It’s simply a procedural move with Beeks out for the rest of the season after undergoing flexor tendon surgery earlier this month. The 33-year-old southpaw should be ready for spring training. He posted a serviceable 3.81 across 26 innings for the Rangers this season.

Angels signed OF Cade Marlowe to a minor league contract.

Marlowe was cut loose by the Athletics last week after triggering the opt-out in his minor league contract. The 29-year-old outfielder appeared in 42 games for the Mariners from 2023-2024. He was tearing the cover off the ball at the Triple-A level this season, slashing .317/.394/.521 with seven homers and 24 stolen bases in 361 plate appearances in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He’s merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.

Julio Rodríguez (leg) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Reds.

It appears that Seattle is proceeding with an abundance of caution after Rodríguez came down hard on the first-base bag immediately after taking an 85.9 mph throw from Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz off his left leg during Monday’s series opener. Mariners skipper Dan Wilson downplayed concern after the contest and is sounds like Rodríguez is day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale. It’ll be Victor Robles sliding over to patrol center field in his absence.

J.P. Crawford (wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Reds.

Crawford is day-to-day with left wrist soreness. It’ll be Colt Emerson drawing another start at shortstop in his absence.
