Tigers re-signed C Tomás Nido to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Nido finished last year in Detroit after being released by the Cubs in late August. The 30-year-old defensive specialist posted a subterranean .192/.219/.315 triple-slash line with four homers in 140 plate appearances over 49 games last year between the Cubs and Mets.

Willi Castro (wrist) is not in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Mariners.
Castro will sit out his second straight contest after being scratched from Sunday’s lineup with right wrist soreness. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
Taylor, Moniak among Week 14 waiver-wire targets
Eric Samulski examines the top fantasy baseball waiver-wire targets for Week 14, highlighting White Sox pitcher Grant Taylor and Colorado Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak.
  • CWS Right Fielder #18
Mike Tauchman (groin) is absent from the lineup for Monday’s contest against the Diamondbacks.
Tauchman will remain on Chicago’s bench for the fourth straight game as he continues to deal with right groin soreness. It’ll be rookie Edgar Quero taking over at DH with Chase Meidroth in the leadoff spot.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #34
Kodai Senga (hamstring) is scheduled to play catch on Monday.
Senga told reporters he’s been able to keep his arm in shape while recovering from a hamstring strain and hopes to return before too long. The 32-year-old righty hit the injured list back in mid-June with a Grade 1 strain and should be able to make it back to New York by mid-July, if not sooner.
  • TEX Shortstop #5
Corey Seager is out of the Rangers lineup for the first time in 16 days Monday against the Orioles.
It appears to be a routine day off for the struggling Seager, who is 2-for-21 in his last five games and just 9-for-63 overall this month.
  • TEX Shortstop #8
Josh Smith is out of the Rangers lineup for Monday’s game against the Orioles.
Smith has been limited to DHing in three games since returning from a mild hamstring injury, and given that it seems he’s not 100 percent, the Rangers might as well sit him against a lefty. It was a poorly timed injury for Smith, given that he had really heated up and collected 13 hits in the seven games before he got hurt.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #62
Yankees recalled RHP Allan Winans from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Making his Yankees debut, Winans will start against the Reds tonight and then probably return to Triple-A. The 29-year-old had a 7.20 ERA in eight big-league starts for the Braves between 2023 and ’24. He was 7-0 with a 0.90 ERA for the RailRiders.
  • BAL Shortstop #3
Jorge Mateo says his elbow is doing better and he expects to begin a rehab assignment soon.
Mateo aggravated his surgically repaired elbow in a collision with Heston Kjerstad on May 31 and has been on the IL since June 10. He might be able to come off the injured list next week.
  • BAL Right Fielder #9
Tyler O’Neill will continue his rehab assignment with Double-A Chesapeake this week.
O’Neill went 1-for-3 for high-A Aberdeen on Sunday in his first game after an 11-day break in his rehab from a shoulder injury. He could return this weekend if all goes well.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #33
Rangers selected the contract of RHP Dane Dunning from Triple-A Round Rock.
Dunning had a 4.47 ERA in 46 1/3 innings as a starter for Round Rock. It looks like he could make a spot start Tuesday against the Orioles, assuming that he’s not needed in relief tonight (and he probably won’t be, given that the Rangers used only one reliever Sunday and just sent him down to make room for Dunning).
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #70
Rangers optioned RHP Caleb Boushley to Triple-A Round Rock.
Boushley has amassed a 5.04 ERA in 30 1/3 innings during his three stints in the Rangers pen this season. The league has a 52% hard-hit rate and a 12% barrel rate against him.
