Tarik Skubal delivered a dominant performance in Friday’s victory over the Rangers, racking up 12 strikeouts and generating a career-high 32 whiffs over seven innings of one-run baseball.
The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner retired the first 15 hitters that he faced in the ballgame until Josh Smith singled to start the sixth inning. He then plunked Ezequiel Duran and allowed a bloop RBI single to Sam Haggerty. Those were the only three baserunners he allowed in the contest. He got 32 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — 13 on his fastball, 11 on his changeup, seven on his sinker and one on a knuckle curve — while registering an other-worldly CSW of 45 percent. Now 4-2 on the season, he’ll carry a brilliant 2.08 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 60/5 K/BB ratio (47 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Red Sox.
