Veen is one of the more challenging prospects to evaluate for fantasy purposes because he’s missed a ton of development time to injury since being selected ninth overall back in 2020. The 24-year-old has put up some stratospheric numbers in extremely hitter-friendly environments on the doorstep of the majors this season, batting .327/.402/.635 with 24 homers and 18 RBI over 100 games. He’s been sizzling hot since the start of August and the Rockies were getting almost nothing from their outfield mix besides Cole Carrigg and Jake McCarthy. He’s talented enough to make an impact for fantasy purposes, but a wait-and-see approach feels like the right move. Simply put, we need to see something from Veen in the big leagues before he’s worthy of a roster spot in shallow mixed leagues.

Colorado is pulling the plug on Julien after he batted .208 (49-for-236) with three homers and five steals in 88 games this season. The 27-year-old boasts strong plate skills, but he simply hasn’t made enough consistent hard contact to be an everyday option at the highest level. He also grades out as a below-average defender. At 27-year-old, there’s probably a handful of teams out there willing to give him a look, but he’ll probably have to settle for a minor league pact.

Yesavage underwent a procedure to address a meniscus injury in his left knee and it sounds like the Blue Jays haven’t officially ruled him out for the remainder of the season, based on comments by manager John Schneider. The dynamic 23-year-old’s potential return in the closing moments of the year probably depends on whether Toronto has any chance at a playoff spot. It seems highly unlikely he’ll offer enough volume to make a significant fantasy impact down the home stretch, which means managers in shallow mixed leagues are safe to move on completely.

Lodolo returns to Cincinnati’s rotation following a nearly five-week absence due to a blister issue. The 28-year-old southpaw threw 65 pitches over 4 1/3 innings during his final minor league rehab outing for Triple-A Louisville last week, so there shouldn’t be any limitations from a workload standpoint when he takes the ball against the White Sox on Tuesday night. He boasts a lackluster 4.60 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 50/27 K/BB ratio across 62 2/3 innings over 12 starts this season.
