Gott winds up back with the Mariners on a new minor league pact after being released earlier this month. The 32-year-old righty is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and could factor into Seattle’s relief mix in the second half.

Cruz knocked a base hit in the fourth inning, then slugged a go-ahead, three-run blast off Mike Burrows in the sixth. It was the third home run in four games for Cruz and his 14th on the season while slashing .259/.331/.475 with 43 runs scored, 44 RBI, and 19 steals across 266 plate appearances.

Ramírez had three doubles for the fifth time in his career, making him the active leader there. Nolan Arenado, Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt and Bryce Harper have done it four times apiece. Ramírez came into the night hitting .178/.220/.267 in his previous 12 games.

The Guardians let Cantillo off the hook by scoring nine runs tonight. They’re now 10-3 in Cantillo’s starts, though Cantillo’s record is just 4-2 and this makes three times in four starts that he’s allowed four runs. Getting to work with Patrick Bailey has yet to be much of a boon for him. In fact, he has better ERAs in his two starts with David Fry (1.86) and four with Bo Naylor (3.54) this year than in his four with Austin Hedges (3.98) and three with Bailey (6.17). He’ll face the Rangers on Sunday.

Schlittler didn’t allow more than three runs in any of his previous 12 starts, but his fastball velocity was down one mph tonight and he gave up eight hard-hit balls to go along with a season-low three strikeouts. It’s probably just a blip, but it needs to be watched. He’s slated to face the Red Sox on Sunday.

Doval had uncommon velocity tonight, hitting 102 mph on the gun on three occasions, but he gave up three singles and a double, none of them hard hit. Also, he didn’t back up home plate on the double, which was a bad look even if it didn’t affect the scoring. Doval is sporting a 6.04 ERA in 22 1/3 innings, and it’d be no surprise if the Yankees tried to move on from him at some point.

With most of the game’s second base talent concentrated in the NL right now, Bazzana just might have a chance to start an All-Star Game as a rookie. He’s batting .292/.382/.451 with three homers and eight steals through 31 games.

Goldschmidt had a two-run homer in the third and a two-run single in the fourth. He’s hitting .276/.364/.534 with seven homers and 23 RBI in 132 plate appearances, so the Yankees haven’t really missed Giancarlo Stanton in the middle of the lineup.

Lowe was hitless through his first four at-bats before stepping to the plate with two runners on in the eighth. He took Bryan Abreu deep for a three-run blast to extend the Pirates’ lead. The 31-year-old second baseman is having an excellent season in Pittsburgh, leading the team with 15 homers while hitting .258/.343/.535 with 37 runs scored and 40 RBI across 242 plate appearances.

Acuña is up to 11 steals on the year now. He stole second and third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher in the top of the third inning. Acuña also stole second base in the eighth inning. He’s hitting just .179 in limited playing time, but has shown he has speed to burn.
