Jackson Merrill was removed from Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks with a possible concussion.
Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters afterwards that Merrill was “woozy” after being tagged in the head while attempting to steal second base during the seventh inning of Saturday’s back-and-forth affair in Arizona. Shildt added that they haven’t made a decision whether he’s in concussion protocol yet. There should be a definitive update on the 22-year-old burgeoning star’s status ahead of Sunday’s series finale.
