Tigers signed RHP Tanner Rainey to a minor league contract.

The 32-year-old right-hander was released by the Pirates just before the All-Star break after posting a troublesome 10.57 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and a 9/6 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings in 11 appearances at the big league level. He’ll report to Triple-A Toledo to begin his Tigers’ tenure, but don’t be surprised to see him in Motown in relatively short order.

Joe Jiménez (knee) threw live batting practice for the first time on Friday.

It’s our first Jiménez update in many months after he had knee surgery in May. The 31-year-old righty said he isn’t ruling out pitching again this year but knows that time isn’t on his side. We’d be surprised if he pitched this year. If so, that’ll make it two years in a row without pitching for Jiménez after multiple surgeries on his knee.
Volpe impresses after being called up by Yankees
Eric Samulski unpacks Anthony Volpe's return to the New York Yankees' lineup, describing him as an "intriguing fantasy prospect" due to his power and speed.

George Springer is batting second for the Blue Jays on Friday against the Orioles.

He’d missed three of the last four games. Springer had been pretty hot before sitting over this span for undisclosed reasons so he can be fired up in daily transaction leagues against RHP Chris Bassitt.

Red Sox recalled INF Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worchester.

He’ll replace Eli White for the moment; this could be only a temporary call up if the Red Sox decide they want another outfielder for the role. Seigler has hit .250/.331/.405 in 171 plate appearances for the Red Sox this year along with three homers and two stolen bases.

Red Sox placed OF Eli White on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to September 9, with a right foot ligament injury.

He’ll be eligible to be back during the last week of the regular season, but that injury listing sounds ominous. White, mostly a defensive caddy with some speed, can be dropped in deeper formats.

TJ Rumfield is not in Colorado’s starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Tigers.

He’ll retreat to the bench for the first time this month against LHP Framber Valdez. The Rockies will bat Connor Norby second in Rumfield’s absence. Rumfield is hitting .271/.372/.406 against left-handed pitching this year, losing a bit of the power he shows against righties.

Masyn Winn (thumb) is in St. Louis’ lineup on Friday against the White Sox.

He was scratched yesterday in his second game off the IL, so this is encouraging. We’ll continue to monitor the situation, but Winn can be started in deeper leagues with daily transactions.

Eli White (foot) is not in Boston’s starting lineup on Friday against the Royals.

With Ceddane Rafaela on the injured list, the Red Sox are shifting Jarren Duran to center field tonight. Nate Eaton could get a more defined role if the Red Sox don’t find Duran’s defense palatable in center and White remains out.

Adley Rutschman (elbow) is in Friday’s starting lineup for the Red Sox against the Royals.

He missed two games this time, as compared to three last week, and seems likely to continue to miss games here or there going forward ahead of the postseason. Rutschman is a tough start in weekly leagues right now. Fire him up in daily transactions leagues if you can against RHP Seth Lugo.

Jac Caglianone (elbow) remains out of the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Red Sox.

It’s his fifth straight game missed. Cagianone is dealing with a mild flexor strain and, if a day off won’t solve it, he probably shouldn’t be counted on to play the rest of the weekend either. John Rave continues to play in his absence in right field.

Athletics designated RHP Taylor Rashi for assignment.

He had been claimed by the A’s in mid-August off a DFA and will now be subject to claims again after the A’s claimed Hunter Bigge off waivers. The back of bullpen 40-man roster world is cutthroat. Rashi, 30, allowed a run in two innings with the Athletics before being sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas.
