Rangers’ outfielder Michael Helman suffered multiple fractures in his hand when he was hit by a pitch during Saturday’s contest against the Red Sox.

Helman was drilled by a 99-mph sinker from Tayron Guerrero in the eighth inning and was replaced when the Rangers took the field in the bottom of the frame. He’ll officially land on the injured list prior to Sunday’s game and is likely to miss a significant amount of time while recovering.

Michael Plassmeyer

SEA Relief Pitcher #49

Mariners signed LHP Michael Plassmeyer to a minor league contract.

The 29-year-old southpaw was granted his release from the Blue Jays last week after registering a stellar 1.82 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and a 23/13 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings at Triple-A Buffalo. Plassmeyer hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 season, but he should get an opportunity with the Mariners in relatively short order.

Javy Guerra

CWS Relief Pitcher #99

White Sox signed RHP Javy Guerra to a minor league contract.

Guerra had been pitching with the Braves at Triple-A Gwinnett until being released last week. There he registered a 5.68 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and a troublesome 17/20 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings. He’ll add extra bullpen depth for the White Sox at the Triple-A level.

Pete Crow-Armstrong

CHC Center Fielder #4

Pete Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-5 with a leadoff homer and a double as the Cubs bested the Giants 6-1 on Saturday.

PCA’s fifth homer in June got things off to a great start against Trevor McDonald, and the Cubs never looked back. Crow-Armstrong is now up to .263/.341/.462 for the year. He was hitting .236/.306/.369 on this date a month ago.

CHC Relief Pitcher #32

Ben Brown pitched five innings of one-run ball in notching a win over the Giants on Saturday.

Brown allowed seven hits and walked three, which usually amounts to more than one run, but the Giants never managed a hit with RISP tonight. Brown moved to 3-2 with a 1.74 ERA. He’ll unfortunately miss the home series against the Rockies next week and likely make his next start Friday against the Blue Jays.

Trevor McDonald

SF Starting Pitcher #72

Trevor McDonald lasted only 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

McDonald allowed six hits, including a leadoff homer from Pete Crow-Armstrong, and walked three before being pulled. He fell to 2-4 with a 4.64 ERA, and he might soon return to the minors if Tyler Mahle’s rehab progresses as hoped. For the moment, he’s in line to start against the Marlins next week.

Pedro Ramirez

CHC 2nd Baseman #75

Pedro Ramírez went 2-for-5 and hit his first major league homer Saturday against the Giants.

Ramírez’s homer was a 414-footer off Reiver Sanmartin in the fifth inning. The rookie was making his seventh start in 21 games since the Cubs called him up on May 23. He’ll likely return to Triple-A at some point now that Matt Shaw is back, but he’d be interesting if the team had a starting job available for him.

Ian Seymour

TB Relief Pitcher #61
The Rays plan to have Casey Legumina open Sunday’s game against the Angels.

Ian Seymour also figures to play a significant role after throwing four scoreless innings in his start Monday against the Red Sox, but that’s not something the Rays are currently willing to confirm. Assuming Seymour has the bulk role, he’ll be a better bet for a win than a bunch of starters in action on Sunday.

José Soriano

LAA Starting Pitcher #59

José Soriano said he exited after five scoreless innings Saturday because he tweaked his leg on a comebacker that hit him in the first inning against the Rays.

Soriano departed after just 76 pitches. He doesn’t expect tonight’s issue to be a problem going forward, so we’ll still pencil him in to face the A’s in Sacramento next week.
