Nationals optioned RHP Ryan Loutos to Triple-A Rochester.
Loutos was with the team for just two days this time around. He gave up one run on one hit over 2/3 of an inning during Sunday’s loss to the Brewers. He’ll continue to serve as extra bullpen depth for the Nats at the Triple-A level for the time being. The Nationals are expected to promote PJ Poulin on Monday to take the open roster spot.

Guardians selected the contract of Stuart Fairchild from Triple-A Columbus.
Fairchild was hitting .289/.417/.479 in 176 plate appearances at Columbus after a nice WBC with Chinese Taipei. He could figure in as a short-side platoon bat for the Guardians with Daniel Schneeman handling the strong-side in an outfield role.
Pirates' Jones to make season debut vs Twins
James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • CLE Shortstop #13
Guardians transferred Gabriel Arias from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
This is procedural, as Arias has been out since April 7. Arias would be eligible to return in a week, but in an earlier update this morning we noted that Guardians manager Steven Vogt indicated he’d be out longer than this and has yet to begun a ramp-up. His timeline probably is going to be closer to late June or early July at this point.
  • STL Left Fielder #17
Cardinals selected the contract of Nelson Velázquez from Triple-A Memphis.
It’s unclear if Velázquez will actually hold a major role with the Cardinals, but with Nathan Church and Lars Nootbar both still on the injured list, he may have some short-term value in deeper leagues. Velázquez was hitting .232/.344/.420 with Triple-A Memphis, with seven homers and four stolen bases.
  • STL 3rd Baseman #31
Cardinals optioned César Prieto to Triple-A Memphis.
Prieto had just 17 plate appearances since being called up on May 4, and he did not record a single hit in that timespan. He’ll head back to Triple-A Memphis — where he was hitting .311/.357/.566 before being recalled — and try to get things back on track.
  • STL Catcher #63
Cardinals optioned C Yohel Pozo to Triple-A Memphis.
Pozo was hitting .242/.242/.273 in 33 plate appearances. This demotion seems more about giving Jimmy Crooks a chance to stick than anything Pozo did wrong — Pedro Pages has been much worse in a larger sample size, but is out of options.
  • STL Catcher #8
Cardinals recalled C Jimmy Crooks from Triple-A Memphis.
He’ll take Yohel Pozo’s roster spot, and given how little hitting Pedro Pages is doing, it’s possible Crooks could take a large role with the Cardinals over the last four months of the season. Crooks was hitting .262/.412/.567 at Triple-A Memphis with 13 homers.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #9
Matt McLain is not in Cincinnati’s starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Braves.
It’s the third time in six games — all against right-handers — that McLain has sat. He actually hit leadoff for three games in a row starting last week, but has hit .074 in his past 27 plate appearances. Spencer Steer is getting reps at second base in McLain’s absence.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #17
Pirates activated RHP Jared Jones from the 60-day injured list.
He’ll get the ball against the Twins tonight in what looks to be a decent matchup. Jones has pitched well on his rehab assignment, but he’ll be hard to trust for a win given his high pitch count during rehab was just 76. Still, he’s worth picking up in most leagues.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #61
Pirates designated RHP Justin Lawrence for assignment.
Lawrence had an 0.51 ERA with the Pirates in 2025 in 17 2/3 innings, but reverted back in to usual form (career 5.05 ERA) with a 5.32 ERA in 22 innings thus far in 2026. This move clears roster space for the activation of Jared Jones. Lawrence should draw interest on waivers if healthy as he’s on a reasonable $1.225 million contract.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #60
Rays selected the contract of RHP Andrew Wantz from Triple-A Durham.
He’ll be the latest fresh arm to shuffle in to the Rays bullpen for depth innings. Wantz was 2-0 with a 7.04 ERA in 18 appearances for the Bulls.
