Neris heads back to the open market after refusing an outright assignment from the Astros earlier this week. The 36-year-old veteran reliever was hit extremely hard in 12 appearances after signing with Houston back in early July. He’ll likely be forced to settle for a minor league contract if he’s going to continue pitching somewhere else over the final six weeks of the season.

Roden has appeared in 28 games for the Twins this season, slashing an underwhelming .254/.333/.313 with zero homers, 10 RBI and an 11/9 K/BB ratio in 79 plate appearances. He’ll add outfield depth over the final 10 days of the season with Trevor Larnach (wrist) landing on the injured list on Friday.

Larnach went for an MRI on the wrist earlier in the week, the results of which are not yet known. While it’s not a certainty just yet, it’s likely that this will end Larnach’s season. Alan Roden was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move to take his place on the Twins’ active roster.

Montgomery was removed from Wednesday’s game with a left wrist contusion and was held out of Thursday’s lineup as well as a precautionary measure. He’s back in there at shortstop and batting eighth against Tigers’ rookie southpaw Andrew Sears on Friday evening in Chicago.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old hurler who joined the Blue Jays in a minor league swap with the Dodgers at the trade deadline. Rodríguez has posted a 3.79 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 51/23 K/BB ratio over 38 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll add a fresh arm to the Jays’ bullpen for the weekend.

The 34-year-old hurler made just six appearances with the Jays, posting a horrifying 8.49 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and an 8/5 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings. He’s likely to clear waivers where he’ll probably elect free agency and be able to peddle his wares on the open market once again.

With Jared Young (concussion) landing on the injured list on Friday, Mauricio will have another opportunity to show the Mets what he can do at the MLB level. He has struggled in his limited chances this season, slashing .180/.180/.260 with one homer, two RBI and an 18/0 K/BB ratio in his first 50 plate appearances.

Young is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a concussion in a nasty collision with teammate Nolan McLean on Thursday night. Mets’ manager Andy Green told reporters on Friday that Young is doing “as good as expected or could be hoped for” and that while he’s dealing with bad headaches and short-term memory loss, the overall prognosis looks hopeful.

The 28-year-old southpaw has made 21 appearances out of the Phillies’ bullpen this season, posting a 4.95 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and a 20/6 K/BB ratio over 20 innings of work. Jose Urquidy was added to the Phillies’ active roster in a corresponding move on Friday.

Marsh will take a seat with left-hander Zac Thornton toeing the slab for the Mets. It’s the third time in the last seven games that the 28-year-old outfielder has found himself left out of the Phillies’ starting nine. That may have something to do with the fact that he’s slashing an anemic .182/.240/.242 with just two homers and 12 RBI in 181 plate appearances since the All-Star break. Edmundo Sosa will start in his place in left field and bat sixth for the Phillies on Friday night.

Walton has been functioning as the A’s regular second baseman down the stretch but the 32-year-old infielder will get a breather in this one. Michael Stefanic will start in his place and will bat eighth against Guardians’ right-hander Daniel Espino on Friday evening.
