Red Sox recalled LHP Brennan Bernardino from Triple-A Worcester.

Bernardino returns to Boston’s relief corps after spending a couple weeks back in the minors. The 33-year-old southpaw holds a strong 3.09 ERA across 43 2/3 innings (47 appearances, one start) this season at the big-league level.

Brandon Pfaadt allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings and got the win in the Diamondbacks’ 5-3 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Pfaadt gave up six hits, walked none and struck out three. He improved to 4-1 with the win. Pfaadt has now allowed five runs and recorded 13 strikeouts in 21 innings over his last four starts since being recalled from Triple-A. He’s lined up to face the Cardinals on the road next week.

Tyler O’Neill went 1-for-2 with an RBI against the Astros on Saturday.

O’Neill entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter, but didn’t make an impact until the 11th. His go-ahead RBI single gave the Orioles a 3-2 lead and they would go on to win 4-2. While O’Neill is hitting just .199 on the season, he’s shown signs of life in recent weeks.

Yordan Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI double against the Orioles on Saturday.

Alvarez slugged his 19th double of the year off Andrew Kittredge in the 10th inning to tie the game 2-2. The Astros would go on to lose 4-2 in 11 innings. Alvarez, the 29-year-old MVP candidate, is hitting .320 with a 1.065 OPS and 72 RBI.

Spencer Arrighetti allowed one run in five innings and got a no-decision against the Orioles on Saturday.

Arrighetti gave up one hit, walked four and struck out six. His only run allowed came in the fourth inning when he allowed an RBI single to Dylan Beavers. Arrighetti has 87 strikeouts in 87 innings this year. His ERA is 4.34, though his xFIP is 4.84. Arrighetti’s problem continues to be that he walks too many batters. He’s lined up to face the White Sox on the road next weekend.

Ronald Acuña Jr. (hamstring) reached twice Saturday with a single and a walk in a rehab game for Triple-A Gwinnett.

The single was hit at 106.9 mph. Acuña is working his way back from the hamstring strain that has sidelined him since near the start of June. The hope is that the 28-year-old star can return during the team’s current homestand which goes through Thursday. Assuming he doesn’t suffer a setback, it seems likely he’s back at the top of the Atlanta lineup in the coming days.

Trevor Rogers allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Orioles’ 4-2 victory over the Astros on Saturday.

Rogers gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out eight. The 28-year-old left-hander had an excellent outing, but was pulled after allowing back-to-back singles with one out in the seventh inning. One of the runs that was Rogers’ responsibility came around to score, tying the game 1-1. He lowered his ERA to 4.28. Rogers is lined up to face the Braves at home next weekend.

AJ Smith-Shawver allowed no runs over 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Gwinnett in a rehab start Saturday.

Smith-Shawver scattered four hits, and he averaged 96.9 mph on his fastball while touching 99 with the heater. The right-hander has looked sharp in his rehab appearances, and while he likely needs at least one more minor-league outing as he rebuilds his strength, there’s a very good chance the talented 23-year-old is ready to roll at some point near August.

Garrett Mitchell went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and a stolen base Saturday to lead the Brewers past the Marlins 8-6.

Mitchell has hit in seven straight games and is batting .411/.459/.979 in 15 games this month. It’s too bad for his fantasy value that he’s not stealing more bases — today’s was his first in two months — but since that would add to the injury risk, it’s really not worth it for him right now. The important thing is keeping him in the lineup. Since debuting in 2022, he’s been worth 5.5 bWAR in a bit less than a season and a half of playing time (763 plate appearances, 229 games).

Shane Drohan struck out nine while allowing three runs over six innings Saturday in a win against the Marlins.

Drogan has turned in three straight quality starts, and he has a 2.70 ERA in his last six turns. As long as he’s starting every five or six days for the Brewers, he’s probably worth using in mixed leagues. That’s especially the case next week, as his next start is likely to come at home against the Rockies.

Trevor Megill retired the side in the ninth against the Marlins to pick up his 15th save Saturday.

Megill is up to 15 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to June 5. He also pitched last night, so he’ll probably get Sunday off. Since Abner Uribe is in the same boat, Aaron Ashby might be in line for a save chance.
