That’s two saves in two days and 13 this year for Santana. He’s allowed two runs in his last 11 appearances, bringing his ERA back down to 2.40. It was actually at 1.36 at the trade deadline, but he gave up seven runs in his first three appearances last month.

The deal, which was agreed to during the winter meetings on Tuesday, will have Díaz set a new record for the highest AAV (average annual value) for a relief pitcher at $23 million per season. He’ll stabilize the ninth inning for the two-time defending World Champions and should be the first or second closer off the board in all fantasy drafts this spring.

The 27-year-old hurler missed the entire 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He made it back to make a few minor league rehab starts at the end of the season though and will be able to participate in his normal offseason routine this winter. He should be a full go when pitchers and catchers report in February. Gray will make the same $1.35 million that he took home while rehabbing in 2025.

While the Red Sox are hopeful that Triston Casas will be able to return early during the 2026 season, it sounds like they’re trying to secure a backup plan just to be on the safe side. The Red Sox already completed one trade with the Cardinals — acquiring right-hander Sonny Gray — and it’s unclear if the discussions around Contreras were a part of those talks or a separate discussion. Even if a deal were to be consummated, the 33-year-old slugger holds a full no-trade clause and would need to approve the swap.

The 29-year-old was purged from the O’s 40-man roster last week as they needed to clear a spot following a pair of waiver claims. For now at least, it appears as though Noda will accept the outright assignment and function as additional depth at the Triple-A level.

Cuas returns to the Royals; the organization he’s had the most MLB success with in his short career. The 31-year-old will need to have a strong spring training if he’s going to join the Kansas City bullpen.

Soroka will join the Diamondbacks after forging a 4.87 ERA in 2025 in his time with the Nationals and Cubs, respectively. The 28-year-old was much better than that in the second half, however, and Arizona will hope to see that version as a member of their rotation in 2026.

Jarvis was the 18th pick of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he didn’t have much success in his time at the highest level. The 27-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed he could report back to Triple-A Reno or elect free agency.

Rolison was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Thursday, and the claim happens just a day later. The former first-round pick will be at risk of hitting the waiver wire again if/when Chicago adds another player to the 40-man roster.

Siani, 26, was designated for assignment by Atlanta after the team signed Mike Yastrzemski. The outfielder is a terrific defender, and he should be a late-inning option for Los Angeles in 2026 — assuming he sticks in the organization, of course.

Cotillo writes that the Red Sox are trying to add a left-hander to their bullpen, and notes that Justin Wilson is also a target of the team, among others. Coulombe struggled and dealt with an injury after being dealt to Texas at the deadline, but he’s been one of the better southpaw relievers over the past few seasons prior to those scuffles.
