Max Muncy (wrist) remains out of the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s contest against the Brewers.

Muncy hasn’t played since being hit in the wrist by a pitch during Friday’s game. Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts noted that it’s unlikely Muncy plays on Monday either, though he may resume swinging a bat then. If he doesn’t show improvement over the next couple of days, it’s possible that the team could consider a backdated stint on the injured list.

Cruz launches no-doubter off Cease for 11th HR

After his teammate Spencer Horwitz blasted a first-pitch home run to start the game, Oneil Cruz followed suit with a 415-foot shot off Dylan Cease's slider to extend the Pirates' lead.

Dylan Cease was removed from Sunday’s start against the Pirates in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury.

It’s not immediately clear what occurred here, but Cease felt uncomfortable after delivering a pitch in the fifth inning which prompted a visit from the training staff and his eventual removal. Before exiting, he had allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while racking up eight strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Expect the Blue Jays to provide an update on his status shortly.

PJ Poulin

WSH Relief Pitcher #50

Nationals recalled LHP PJ Poulin from Triple-A Rochester.

The 29-year-old southpaw was just optioned out on Wednesday, but he’ll rejoin the Nationals with Jake Irvin (shoulder) hitting the injured list on Sunday. Poulin has done a nice job out of the Nats’ bullpen this season, posting a 2.91 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 16/14 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings.

WSH Starting Pitcher #27

Nationals placed RHP Jake Irvin on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.

Irvin sustained the injury during Saturday’s start against the Braves. He underwent an MRI exam after that outing, the results of which are not yet known. PJ Poulin was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Jordan Wicks

CHC Starting Pitcher #36

Cubs recalled LHP Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa.

With Edward Cabrera (blister) landing on the injured list on Sunday, Wicks will have another opportunity to pitch for the big league club. If he’s not utilized out of the bullpen before then, it’s possible that he could step in and work in place of Cabrera on Tuesday against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

CHC Starting Pitcher #30

Cubs placed RHP Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 21, with a right middle-finger blister.

Cabrera was pulled from Wednesday’s start due to the blister issue. The Cubs gave him a few days to see if it would improve before his next start, but he’ll wind up being shelved for a couple of weeks instead. Jordan Wicks was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take his place on the club’s active roster.

Ian Happ remains out of the Cubs’ starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Astros.

Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell noted that the team wanted to give him a couple of days off to clear his head. He has still been hitting and doing other pregame work and is expected to return to the Cubs’ lineup on Monday. Happ is mired in an extended slump and is just 3-for-28 (.107) over his last seven games.

MIL Designated Hitter #22
Christian Yelich is absent from the Brewers’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Dodgers.

The Brewers are being sure to mix in ample off-days for the 34-year-old slugger in an attempt to keep him healthy. Jake Bauers will function as the team’s designated hitter and will bat cleanup against Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

Mariners’ manager Dan Wilson announced that Luis Castillo will start for the Mariners on Monday against the Athletics.

Bryce Miller will work behind him in a piggyback role. It’s the reverse of what we saw the last time these two took the mound, where Miller started against the White Sox on Tuesday and Castillo followed with another miserable outing to blow his lead. Miller is the only one out of the duo that should be utilized for fantasy purposes.

Coby Mayo was a late scratch from the Orioles’ lineup for the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Tigers due to low back discomfort.

It’s unclear whether or not Mayo will be available off the bench or in the nightcap on Sunday. Weston Wilson will start in his place at third base and will bat sixth against Tigers’ southpaw Framber Valdez on Sunday afternoon.
