Cardinals placed C Willson Contreras on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
The injury had previously been reported as a biceps injury, but it appears the discomfort originated from the shoulder. While there is technically still enough time for Contreras to be activated from the IL and play in the regular season, we have to believe this effectively ends his 2025 season. His first season as a first baseman allowed him to have the most plate appearances he has had in his MLB career while slashing .257/.344/.447 with 20 home runs, 80 RBI, and five steals. He’ll no longer have catcher eligibility next season, so he’ll be a mid-tier first base option with some ceiling to his power upside.
