Logan Allen went eight innings and combined with Zak Kent on a four-hitter as the Guardians bested the Twins 8-0 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The Twins totaled seven hits in 18 scoreless innings against Allen, Kent, Slade Cecconi and Kolby Allard today. Allen struck out seven, which, incredibly enough, is a season high for him in 28 starts. It’s the first time in 72 career starts that he’s lasted eight innings and the second time he’s gotten through seven scoreless. The victory makes him 8-11 with a 4.14 ERA. He’ll likely face the Rangers next weekend, though it’s possible the Guardians could bypass him then. With the doubleheader sweep, the Guardians are now just one game back of the Tigers in the AL Central.
