Rockies 1B prospect Charlie Condon went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Arizona Fall League action on Wednesday.

Condon was the third overall pick in the 2024 draft and had a solid first professional season, hitting .268/.376/.444 with 14 home runs in 99 games split between High-A and Double-A. He struggled a bit to end the year in Double-A and hit just .235 with 67 strikeouts in 55 games; however, he did have 11 home runs in those 55 games, and the power is very real. The 22-year-old is just 5-for-21 in his first five AFL games, but he has one triple, one home run, and eight RBI, so that kind of raw power playing in Coors Field is appealing.

Clarke Schmidt (elbow) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday.

The 30-year-old hurler has finally made it all the way back in his recovery from Tommy John surgery and is ready for live game action. He’ll probably need at least a couple of tune-ups there before he’s ready to join the Yankees in what’s expected to be a bullpen role in September.

James Schiano explains why Roman Anthony's latest Triple-A performance suggests a return to the Red Sox lineup could come as soon as Friday in time for a crucial series against the Yankees in the Bronx.

Blue Jays signed RHP Michael Lorenzen to a one-year contract.

The 34-year-old hurler will get a pro-rated portion of the MLB minimum on his deal with the Jays as the Rockeis are responsible for the remainder of his contract. He’ll add extra rotation depth for the Jays and could wind up working as a long man out of the bullpen initially.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are among the teams that have checked in on free agent right-hander Zack Littell.

It sounds like nothing more than the Yankees doing their due diligence here on the 30-year-old right-hander. Littell was released by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday after struggling to a 5.21 ERA over 124 1/3 innings between the D’Backs and the Nationals. If he latches on elsewhere, it will almost certainly have to be on a minor league deal as extra rotation depth.

Andrés Giménez is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Thursday evening’s showdown against the Royals.

Giménez played in each of the first two games since returning from a hamstring issue on Tuesday, so this could just be the Jays’ playing it safe and easing him back into full-time action. Ernie Clement will slide over and cover shortstop while Charles McAdoo starts at second base and will bat leadoff against Royals’ southpaw Noah Cameron.

Nick Loftin is not in the Royals’ starting lineup for Thursday’s matchup against the Blue Jays.

Loftin has been functioning as the club’s primary third baseman with Maikel Garcia (hamstring) shelved, but he’ll get a breather in this one. Josh Rojas will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat eighth for the Royals against Spencer Arrighetti and the Blue Jays on Thursday evening in Toronto.

Brice Turang is not in Milwaukee’s starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Mets.

It appears to just be a routine day off against LHP Sean Manaea. The entire right-handed contingent of Brewers platoon hitters is in against Manaea, with David Hamilton and Sal Frelick staying in the lineup and Turang and Christian Yelich sitting.

Bo Bichette (foot) is not in Thursday’s Mets lineup against the Brewers.

He fouled a ball off his foot yesterday and was removed from the game. He remains out today. Brett Baty will get a chance to flail against Jacob Misiorowski in Bichette’s stead.

Mets optioned RHP Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Syracuse.

He finished out last night’s game with a 48-pitch, two-inning outing. McDermott will be back once his arm is fresh.

Royals recalled INF Josh Rojas from Triple-A Omaha.

He’ll presumably fill in for the duration of Michael Massey’s 7-day IL stint. Rojas remains merely a depth option for the Royals and has no fantasy value.
