Dodgers re-signed RHP Wyatt Mills to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Mills finished out last year in the Dodgers organization, though he didn’t get into a game. The right-hander showed some promise with the Red Sox in 2022, but he had Tommy John the following year and hasn’t pitched in the majors since. He had a 3.12 ERA and a 49/30 K/BB in 52 innings for Boston’s Triple-A team last season.

Bryce Miller pitched seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts Thursday in the Mariners’ 1-0 win over the Angels.

The Mariners had just two hits and the one run came on Cal Raleigh’s bases loaded walk in the sixth. Fortunately, that was enough for Miller, Eduard Bazardo and Andrés Muñoz. It’s Miller’s fourth scoreless start in nine outings since he came off the IL. Of a little concern is that his velocity has been trending down. He averaged 97.5 mph with his fastball in his season debut May 13, but he’s been in the 96.0-96.5 mph range since and tonight he hit a new season low of 95.8 mph. That’s still a little better than his career average of 95.1 mph, but it looks like he’s returning to his old level. He’ll face the Marlins next.
    Swanson red-hot in 'unfathomable' turnaround

Andrés Muñoz protected a 1-0 lead in the ninth despite giving up two hits and a walk Thursday against the Angels.

Zach Neto walked to start the ninth but then got picked off/caught stealing. Nolan Schanuel and Jorge Soler went on to single for Wade Meckler grounded out to end the game. It’s Muñoz’s seventh straight scoreless appearance, six of which have resulted in saves. He’s 16-for-20 saving games on the year.

Walbert Ureña allowed just one run and one hit over 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a tough loss to the Mariners.

Ureña gave up a leadoff double to JP Crawford in the sixth and then walked three of the remaining five hitters he faced to force in a run. Before that, he walked just one through five, though he did hit two batters. He struck out six. Ureña has shown a lot of promise at age 22, but until the Angels get their act together, he doesn’t seem like a great use of a spot in shallow leagues. That said, he’s a fair play next week in a favorable matchup in Texas against the Rangers.

Logan O’Hoppe went 0-for-3 on Thursday and is 4-for-29 with no extra-base hits or walks in his last nine games.

O’Hoppe had a pretty good two-week stretch in mid-June, but other than that, it’s been a miserable season to date. He’s batting .228/.290/.333 through 208 plate appearances. If he doesn’t really turn things around these next three months, the Angels might have to move on from him this winter.

X-rays on the right wrist of Victor Robles were negative after he left Thursday’s game following a HBP.

Robles said he was still in quite a bit of pain after the game. If neither he nor Julio Rodríguez can play Friday, the Mariners would probably use Luke Raley in center and Weston Wilson in right.

Julio Rodríguez went through concussion protocols after leaving Thursday’s game and will be reevaluated Friday morning.

Rodríguez was hit by a thrown ball in the game against the Angels. It looks like we won’t know anything further about his condition until the afternoon.

Victor Robles was pulled from Thursday’s battle against the Angels after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.

Robles was struck in the right forearm near his wrist. Presumably, he’ll head for X-rays to rule out any potential fractures. Be sure to check back on his status prior to setting lineups for the weekend.

Julio Rodríguez was removed from Thursday night’s game against the Angels due to an apparent head injury.

The 25-year-old superstar was hit in the back of the head by an errant throw from Nolan Schanuel in the third inning then was seen talking to the training staff before heading into the tunnel. It’s likely that Rodríguez will need to clear the concussion protocol before he’s able to return to the M’s lineup.

Elias Díaz went 2-for-4 with a homer and a pair of runs scored on Thursday evening, propelling the Rangers to a 10-4 victory over the visiting Tigers.

Díaz got the party started in the second inning with a 414-foot (102.3-mph EV) solo shot off of Framber Valdez in the second inning that started a three-run rally. He also singled and scored on an RBI knock by Nicky Lopez during the Rangers’ three-run seventh inning. The 35-year-old backstop has impressed in his limited action this season, slashing .300/.315/.557 with four homers and 16 RBI in 73 plate appearances.

Josh Smith went 2-for-2 including a pinch-hit home run as the Rangers bested the Tigers on Thursday night.

Smith entered the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Beau Brieske for a 406-foot (104.1-mph EV) solo shot that increased the Rangers’ lead to 6-3. He also added an RBI single in the seventh that made it a 9-3 ballgame. This was a nice highlight in what has otherwise been a forgettable season for Smith. The versatile 28-year-old is slashing an anemic .238/.331/.295 with just one home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 121 plate appearances.
