Anthony Santander will undergo shoulder surgery and miss five to six months, according to the Blue Jays.
It’s labrum surgery. The Jays had indicated that Santander would be healthy this year after last year’s shoulder issues, but obviously things didn’t respond as hoped after he resumed baseball activities. This opens things back up with a Blue Jays lineup that had seemed set with Kazuma Okamoto essentially replacing Bo Bichette as the one real change from last year. As things stand now, they’ll probably go back to using a Nathan Lukes/Davis Schneider platoon in left field, though maybe Joey Loperfido could enter the mix. Santander would probably return around the All-Star break in a best-case scenario.

Justin Verlander (hip) will be activated from the injured list to start on Saturday against the White Sox.
Verlander will make his return to Detroit’s rotation after missing 11 weeks due to a hip issue. The 43-year-old future Hall of Famer threw a 66-pitch simulated game at Daikin Park on Monday and shouldn’t have any workload restrictions in his return from the injured list.
Gomez becoming trustworthy closer for Twins
Eric Samulski discusses Twins closer Yoendrys Gomez's recent performances on the mound, in which he's had two saves in his last three appearances and is turning out to be a reliable option in Minnesota's bullpen.
  • SEA 1st Baseman #12
Josh Naylor (shin, wrist) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander told reporters Naylor is dealing with both shin and wrist issues that will keep him sidelined for at least Tuesday’s contest. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list, especially since initial X-rays didn’t reveal any fractures after he fouled a ball off his shin over the weekend.
  • SEA Left Fielder #56
Randy Arozarena (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander told reporters Arozarena is likely to miss at least a couple days. It’s unclear whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but it sounds like the club is going to give him a couple days before making that decision. The 31-year-old has missed three straight contests due to hamstring soreness. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him back in the lineup at some point during their three-game series against Baltimore.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #75
Andrés Muñoz (back) is available for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
There was understandably cause for corner when Muñoz left Sunday’s contest against the Nationals with lower back tightness. The 27-year-old closer, who has struggled this season overall, appears to be feeling better. He’ll presumably be available to handle any save chances during a three-game series against the Orioles at T-Mobile Park.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25
Dodgers activated 2B/OF Tommy Edman from the 60-day injured list.
Edman will make his season debut during Wednesday’s series finale against the Rays. The versatile 31-year-old will see action between several different spots, including second base and left field, after missing nearly the entire first half working his way back from last year’s ankle surgery. The multi-position eligibility is a nice bonus, but the stolen bases have evaporated for Edman the last few years, which limits his fantasy appeal to deeper formats.
  • LAD 3rd Baseman #21
Dodgers designated INF Santiago Espinal for assignment.
Espinal loses his roster spot with Los Angeles in the wake of Tommy Edman returning from the injured list. The 31-year-old hit .268 (15-for-56) with one homer and seven RBI in 31 games for the Dodgers this season. He’ll likely stick around at Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers.
  • DET 2nd Baseman #25
Gleyber Torres (side) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Astros.
Torres made an early exit from Monday’s series opener with left side pain following an awkward swing. The 29-year-old second baseman will presumably undergo imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with another oblique issue, which caused him to miss time earlier this season. He’s day-to-day for the moment with rookie Hao-Yu Lee filling in at second base. It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Torres hit the injured list at some point later this week.
  • CLE Right Fielder #24
Chase DeLauter (ribs) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Brewers.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters DeLauter underwent imaging that revealed a bone bruise and a small fracture. He’s day-to-day and could potentially play through the issues, but a trip to the injured list remains a possibility. He was likely to open this contest on the bench anyway with lefty Robert Gasser taking the hill for Milwaukee. It’ll be veteran David Fry heading out to right field in his place. There should be a clearer idea regarding the 24-year-old rookie sensation’s outlook later this week.
  • ATL Catcher #30
Drake Baldwin is starting at catcher and hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Giants.
Baldwin returns to Atlanta’s lineup after missing one month recovering from an oblique strain. The 25-year-old rising star played just one minor league rehab contest, but was able to use a Trajekt machine to pick up some additional at-bats over the last couple days. It could take him a minute to knock off any lingering rust, but he’s been a revelation this season, slashing .303/.389/.543 with 13 homers and 38 RBI through 48 games prior to the injury.
  • CLE 3rd Baseman #11
José Ramírez underwent surgery to address a left hamate fracture and will miss 5-7 weeks.
Ramírez underwent surgery to remove the hook of his fractured left hamate bone after suffering the injury on a swing during last Saturday’s game against the division-rival Tigers. The 33-year-old perennial fantasy force will be on the shelf until at least late July. He was hitting .239/.339/.418 with 42 runs scored, 10 homers, 33 RBI and 24 stolen bases across 314 plate appearances in 72 games, delivering top-five overall fantasy value at the hot corner. It’ll be challenging for fantasy managers to replace Ramírez’s contributions, but at least he’ll make it back sometime after next month’s All-Star break.
