The 35-year-old right-hander issued four walks on the evening while racking up five punchouts. All of the damage done against him came in the fifth inning as Clevinger loaded the bases with one out before turning the ball over to the bullpen — then both inherited runners came around to score. He got eight swings and misses on 67 offerings on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. For the spring, Clevinger now holds a 4.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and an 11/9 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings as he desperately tries to land a spot on the Pirates’ Opening Day roster.

Hughes kept the Rays scoreless through two innings, then gave up a run on a bases-loaded walk in the third before Liam Hick cleared them all with a grand slam. He settled back in to pitch into the sixth, leaving with one out in the inning at 77 pitches. Hughes generated 11 whiffs to strike out seven. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 4.25 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 28/9 K/BB ratio across 29 2/3 innings into a start against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Monday.

De La Cruz worked the first of three walks and scored the tying run during the Reds’ go-ahead, two-run rally against Hogan Harris in the eighth. He’s batting .288/.397/.530 with three homers and six steals in 17 games since the break.

He did so for the Reds, which is kind of a stunner. Singer, a free agent at season’s end, seemed about as likely as any pitcher to get moved before the deadline, but the Reds didn’t want to just give him away, say like the Giants did with Tyler Mahle, and thus kept him after failing to get any quality offers. Singer still has a 4.67 ERA for the year, but he’s at 2.87 in 11 starts since the beginning of June. He’ll likely face the Nationals on Sunday.

Pagán gave up a couple of singles before striking out Lawrence Butler to end the 5-4 game. He has five saves and two wins while pitching scoreless innings in his last seven appearances.

Ginn missed two weeks with a blister. Brady Singer matched him exactly tonight, so it’s goes as Ginn’s second no-decision in his last 15 starts. He’s been surprisingly solid ever since moving into the rotation, posting a 3.41 ERA. He’ll pitch in Boston on Sunday.

Brought in with a 4-3 lead, Harris walked Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart to open the eighth, rallied for two outs and then threw two wild pitches to score two runs while issuing a third walk (though, to be fair, the second wild pitch looked more like a passed ball). He was pulled at that point. Harris has earned the Athletics’ only three saves over the last month, bringing his season total to nine, but this won’t help his cause. He’s now walked 32 in 49 2/3 innings this season, though he has a decent 3.62 ERA anyway.

Bolte is 6-for-11 with a homer and a double in three games this month. Maybe he’ll start working his way back up the lineup at this rate.

Bradford will be making his first big-league start since late September of the 2024 campaign. The 28-year-old lefty missed most of the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. He’s unlikely to offer significant fantasy appeal over the final two months, but gets a nice matchup right out of the gate against a pedestrian Giants lineup.

Duran drove in a run on a base hit in the first inning and swiped second base for his ninth steal of the season. He then drove in two more runs in the eighth on a double to break a tie game. Duran came through in a clutch moment again in the ninth, driving in the winning run with a walk-off double. The 27-year-old infielder is hitting .278/.329/.463 with 13 homers, 51 runs scored, and 63 RBI across 399 plate appearances.

Basabe got the start at second base and drew the leadoff spot against the Rangers. He put the team on the board with a two-run homer off Chase Silseth to break the shutout, his third homer of the season in just 19 plate appearances. With Matt Chapman still sidelined with an abdomen injury and Casey Schmitt on the shelf after knee surgery, Basabe stands to see regular playing time in the infield for the Giants.
