Mets optioned IF Ronny Mauricio and RHP Joey Gerber to Triple-A Syracuse; reassigned RHP Mike Baumann and LHP Brandon Waddell to minor league camp.

Mauricio had hit .313/.389/.531 in Spring Training, but it wasn’t quite enough to hold on to him in a utility role. He’ll start at Syracuse and look to get back to the bigs in the near-term future. Mauricio hit .323/.384/.508 in 73 minor league plate appearances last year, including .515/.564/.818 in Syracuse for 39 plate appearances.

Will Warren worked five innings while allowing just a run, but he didn’t qualify for a decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

Warren gave up a leadoff homer to James Wood, and then didn’t give up another run for the rest of the contest. The 27-year-old was far from dominant with just two strikeouts against two walks, but it’s a vast improvement from his six runs over four frames in his previous outing. Warren will be back on the bump in around a week after the All-Star break, and he enters that break with an ERA of 4.03.

Michael Petersen left Sunday’s game against the Guardians with right hamstring tightness.

Petersen exited in the fifth inning of his bullpen appearance. The Marlins will assuredly have the 32-year-old undergo testing, and he’ll at least get a few days off during the All-Star break before Miami determines if they need to make a roster move.

Brice Matthews left Sunday’s game against the Rangers with a left knee injury.

Matthews hurt the knee when he hit the wall while attempting to make a catch early in the contest. The 24-year-old will likely undergo testing, and the Astros will have the All-Star break to determine whether Matthews needs a trip to the injured list.

Henry Davis went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI on Sunday afternoon, powering the Pirates to a lopsided 14-5 victory over the visiting Brewers.

Davis helped to break the game open with a 364-foot (95.6-mph EV) two-run shot off of Robert Gasser in the second inning that went just over the outstretched glove of Jackson Chourio to increase the Pirates’ lead to 4-0. He also delivered an RBI single during the Bucs’ 10-run uprising in the fourth inning and scored as Bryan Reynolds was plunked with the bases loaded. With his two-hit attack, the 26-year-old backstop is now slashing .166/.267/.344 with eight homers and 27 RBI on the season.
