Astros outrighted C César Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Salazar cleared waivers. The 30-year-old will be a depth piece for the Astros in 2026 assuming he reports to Sugar Land. Christian Vázquez, who signed on just a few weeks ago, won the Astros’ backup catcher job.

Landen Roupp pitched decently during Thursday afternoon’s loss to the Guardians, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

The right-hander also issued four walks in the contest while striking out a pair of opposing hitters. The Guardians got to him early in this one, stringing together a walk, three singles and a sacrifice fly to push three runs across in the opening inning. He settled in nicely afterwards, but the damage had already been done. Roupp got seven whiffs on 90 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 24 percent. Now 7-13 on the season, he’ll carry a 4.34 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 130/64 K/BB ratio (134 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Reds.

James Outman (concussion) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Outman has been shelved since August 13 after suffering a concussion. It’s unclear how many games he’ll need there before he’s cleared to rejoin the Tigers. Brett Callahan is at risk to get squeezed off of the club’s active roster when Outman returns.

The Chicago Tribune’s Meghan Montemurro reports the Cubs will activae Daniel Palencia off the 60-day injured list on Friday.

Palencia has been out since mid-June. He had a 2.70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings, striking out 19, before being sent to the injured list. Jacob Webb will likely remain in the mix for saves given how strong Webb has been this year, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Palencia eventually got the job back after he proves himself healthy and in good form.

Maikel Garcia left Kansas City’s game against the Athletics on Thursday with a left hamstring injury.

He pulled up rounding third base and gingerly walked off the field with the trainer and manager Matt Quatraro, grabbing at his hamstring. Garcia has been no stranger to the injured list this year and it looks like this might lead to another placement there. The Royals should have an update on his status in the near future.

Andrés Giménez left Toronto’s game against the Rays on Thursday with right hamstring tightness.

He grabbed at the back of hamstring after running out a ground ball in the fourth inning. Ernie Clement shuffled over to shortstop. Giménez could be looking at an extended absence, the Blue Jays should update his status in the near future.

Athletics claimed OF Johnathan Rodríguez off waivers from the Pirates; optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Rodríguez was traded from the Guardians to the Orioles this offseason, DFAed by the Orioles and dealt to the Pirates for cash, and now DFAed by the Pirates and claimed by the Athletics. The 26-year-old has a .287/.381/.415 Triple-A line between Norfolk and Indianapolis. He’ll get to boost that in the comfy confines of Las Vegas.

Reds sent LHP Kent Emanuel outright to Triple-A Louisville.

He can refuse the assignment and become a free agent if he’d prefer. The 34-year-old had just signed with the Reds in early August after pitching with the Atlantic League’s High Point Rockers. Emanuel had a 2.30 ERA and 1.00 WHIP along with 53 strikeouts in 47 innings in the independent league.

Phillies transferred LF Felix Reyes from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list with a right wrist fracture.

The 25-year-old was a brief Phillies lineup solution in May and had recently gone on the IL at Triple-A Lehigh Valley; this move clears a 40-man spot for new waiver claim Andrew Hoffmann. It seems likely Reyes’ season is over.

It was reported that Hoffmann was to be released on Wednesday, but it turns out it was simply release waivers. The Phillies have claimed the 26-year-old and he will likely report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
