Joey Wiemer has played in two games in 2026, and he’s gone 3-for-3 with a homer in both of them. He added the three-bagger for good measure and also drew a walk. Obviously, Wiemer isn’t going to do this every night, but if he does, it’d be pretty cool. It’s a reminder that Wiemer was a legitimate top prospect not that long ago with the Brewers, and he’s certainly capable of bashing lefties.

Burns gave up six hits, walked three and struck out six. He fell to 13-2 with the loss. Burns cruised through the first two innings before running into trouble in the third inning. He allowed three hits, including a two-run single. In the sixth inning, Burns allowed three hits to start the inning and was pulled after walking Nasim Nunez to load the bases. Nunez was thrown out at home on an Andres Chaparo double after Burns left the game, which saved him an earned run. He has a 2.61 ERA. Burns is lined up to face the Marlins at home next weekend.

Alvarez gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two. The 27-year-old left-handed allowed only one run, but it wasn’t a very impressive performance overall as he struck out only two of 20 batters faced. Alvarez has a 3.76 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.

Ortiz went 0-for-1 with a strikeout before exiting. The 28-year-old has been replaced by David Hamilton. Ortiz will likely undergo further evaluation to determine his status for Sunday and beyond.

Walls, 30, will miss at least the start of Saturday’s game. Carson Williams will get the start at shortstop in Wells’ absence.

The bad news is the contusion forced Nola to his outing after he allowed two runs over five innings. The good news is that imaging revealed no structural damage. The to-be-determined news is that Nola will undergo further evaluation in the coming days to determine if he can make his next scheduled start next week.

After allowing two runs through five innings, Nola was drilled after his second pitch of the sixth, a 105-mph shot from Jesús Sánchez. The double was hit 104 mph off Lou Trivino. Worcester ended up beating Lehigh Valley 19-0, so the Rutschman acquisition is already paying off for Boston. It’s unclear if he’ll play again tomorrow.

Martin has almost always been effective when healthy, but that stopped at age 40 this year, as he gave up 14 earned runs in 14 innings for the Rangers. Still, given that his velocity hasn’t changed much, we’re guessing he’ll be offered minor league deals by a bunch of contenders.
