Willy Adames went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and two RBI in Friday’s win over the Orioles.
Adames sent a solo homer into the stands with two outs in the third inning to give the Giants their first run of the day against Shane Baz. The right-hand shortstop continued to do damage in the fourth inning, doubling home Heliot Ramos to push the Giants’ lead to 3-0. Adames has now hit safely in four-straight games and has multiple hits in each game over that span. He seems to be heating up after a slow start out of the gate that saw him hitting .214 through the first 11 games of the season.

Astros placed SS Jeremy Peña on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 12, with a hamstring strain.
Peña’s injury was originally described as knee tightness, but now the Astros are saying it’s a grade one hamstring strain. That’s not ideal, but Peña still might make it back around the end of the month. Until then, the Astros will be able to play Isaac Paredes and the rest of their infielders regularly, with Carlos Correa starting at short. Joey Loperfido figures to get more time in left with Yordan Alvarez DHing most games.
HLs: Braves rout Guardians behind bottom of lineup
Chris Sale struck out six over six innings while the Braves offense racked up 19 hits, the most by any team in a game this season, to easily roll past the Cleveland Guardians in Atlanta on Sunday Night Baseball.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #45
Astros placed RHP Tatsuya Imai on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 12, with right arm fatigue.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #61
Astros recalled LHP Colton Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land.
  • HOU Left Fielder #14
Astros recalled INF/OF Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #68
Astros recalled RHP J.P. France from Triple-A Sugar Land.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #70
Astros optioned RHP Jayden Murray to Triple-A Sugar Land.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #50
Blue Jays acquired INF Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox for OF Jordan Rich and future considerations.
Sosa, 26, was the White Sox’s leader with 22 homers and 75 RBI last season, but that came with a 127/18 K/BB ratio and a .293 OBP. Between the OBP issues and his lack of defensive value, he just hasn’t been a very valuable major leaguer to date (Baseball-Reference has him at -1.2 WAR through 1,155 plate appearances). Maybe the Jays will get more out of him. He can serve as another DH option while George Springer is out and maybe see some time at second base against lefties. The White Sox, who had started Sosa in eight of their 16 games, seemingly just wanted to move on here, as Rich is a 2025 17th-round pick who has yet to play in a professional game. Perhaps Sam Antonacci will fill the open roster spot.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #57
Blue Jays transferred RHP Shane Bieber from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
This puts Bieber out until the end of May, but that’s already what he was tracking for anyway. He’s been throwing bullpen sessions and is expected to begin facing hitters soon. Bieber has been on the shelf since spring training due to elbow inflammation.
  • COL 1st Baseman
Rockies 1B/OF prospect Charlie Condon went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.
Condon now has four home runs and nine RBI on the season while slashing .325/.438/1.113 in 10 games. He does have an 11/7 K/BB ratio, so there are some swing-and-miss issues to work out, but it’s hard to deny what the 22-year-old is doing at this level right now. He has played both first base and right field this season, so that gives the Rockies two potential spots to play him if he keeps hitting like this into the month of May.
  • MIN Center Fielder
Twins OF prospect Walker Jenkins went 3-for-4 with one walk, one run scored, one RBI, and two steals for Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.
The 21-year-old now has three steals on the season, which is nice to see since he was battling a hamstring issue at the end of March. He’s slashing just .242/.405/.273, but his 6/8 K/BB ratio shows a clear understanding of the strike zone. He just hasn’t been able to drive the pitches when he does get good ones to hit. That should come in time, and he still has a good chance to be up with Minnesota this summer.
