The Guardians preferred Gabriel Arias to Rocchio at short before he got hurt, and they have a second baseman of the future in Travis Bazzana. It makes one wonder how much longer Rocchio is going to be a part of the team’s plans. He’s out of options now, so they can’t send him down like they did last summer. Despite having struck out just six times, Rocchio is hitting .170/.316/.255 in 58 plate appearances. His defensive numbers have never lived up to his reputation, and he just hasn’t added any power production, even though his exit velocity numbers have improved some since he entered the league. He’s still just 25, but his future doesn’t seem very bright at this point.

The Rays turned to Bryan Baker in the eighth inning to face the top of the Toronto lineup, and he set them down in order while recording one strikeout. That meant Seymour was given the ninth inning, even though Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was leading. The decision may not have been the same had the Rays not had a three-run cushion, but Seymour struck out Vladdy and then retired the next two hitters he saw on lineouts. This was the left-hander’s first save of the season, but it’s unclear if there will be many more.

Corbin walked two and struck out one, but posted just a three percent swinging strike rate and an 18 percent CSW in this one. He got to two strikes on just 23 percent of the hitters he faced, which is almost half of his season-long rate. With that said, it was great news that he was able to avoid more damage being done on all the contact he allowed. He’ll face these same Rays at home next week.

McClanahan has not allowed a run in his last 16 2/3 innings. On Wednesday, he allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four. He threw 67 percent of his pitches for strikes and posted a 15 percent swinging strike rate and 35 percent CSW. The left-hander threw only eight pitches to left-handed hitters in this game, but posted a 22 percent swinging strike rate on his changeup and dominated with a curveball that had a 78 percent strike rate, 50 percent CSW, and 22 percent swinging strike rate. McClanahan may not have the top-tier fastball that he did prior to his injury, but that pitch remains good enough, and he has good enough secondaries to remain a strong starting pitcher. He’ll face these same Blue Jays on the road in Toronto next week.

Jung was called up on April 29th when Javier Baez (ankle) went on the injured list, but was sent back to Triple-A on May 3rd when Zack Short was called up from Triple-A. Now, Jung will get another shot with Gleyber Torres (oblique) landing on the injured list.

Torres had missed three straight games with the injury and will now finally go on the injured list. With Zach McKinstry back, McKinstry should play second base against right-handed pitching until Torres can work his way back into the lineup.

Ferguson has allowed four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings this year for the Athletics. He will likely get another shot later this summer.

This is not the left-handed pitching prospect that many people expected the Marlins to call up from Triple-A; however, the Marlins have said that Fulton will pitch out of the bullpen. Miami doesn’t need a starting pitcher until Friday, so Fulton will operate out of the bullpen until then. The 24-year-old has a 7.65 ERA in 20 innings at Triple-A this season. If he gets into a game, it will be his MLB debut.

The 32-year-old has a 2.25 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 25/11 K/BB ratio in 16 innings at Triple-A this season. He has a 9.53 ERA in 39 2/3 career MLB innings.

Kent was claimed off waivers from the Twins on Sunday. He posted a 4.91 ERA and 2/5 K/BB ratio in 3 2/3 innings for the Twins this season.

Pérez was designated for assignment by the Nationals over the weekend, cleared waivers, and opted for free agency. He will now join the Mets’ organization after posting a 6.19 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 9/11 K/BB ratio across 16 innings with Washington this season.
