  • SD Right Fielder #23

Fernando Tatis Jr. will make another start at second base on Sunday afternoon against the Angels in Los Angeles.
It’s the third start at the position for Tatis, who is creeping closer to eligibility for fantasy purposes in leagues that require five or ten games played in-season at a position. Bryce Johnson will start in right field for the Padres and will bat ninth against Angels’ right-hander Walbert Urena on Sunday afternoon.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #74

Reds recalled RHP Jose Franco from Triple-A Louisville.
Franco returns for his second stint with the Reds after posting a respectable 3.18 ERA across 5 2/3 innings over three appearances earlier this season. The 25-year-old rookie figures to pitch in middle relief.
Who will play shortstop for Mets with Lindor hurt?
James Schiano talks about the "suddenly surging" Mets, analyzing how they will recover from "ironman" Francisco Lindor suffering a calf strain and sharing why New York is "in a bit of a pickle" at the shortstop position.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #62
Reds optioned RHP Kyle Nicolas to Triple-A Louisville.
Nicolas heads back from the minors after allowing seven runs on eight hits with a 7/13 K/BB ratio across 7 1/3 innings over seven appearances. The 27-year-old righty, who came over from the Pirates in a trade back in early March, will attempt to iron out his control issues back at Triple-A.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #6
Ildemaro Vargas is at first base and hitting fifth on Saturday in the opening contest of the Mexico City Series against the Padres.
Vargas makes his fifth consecutive start at first base for Arizona as his surreal opening month continues. The 34-year-old utility specialist recorded a two-homer performance on Wednesday against the White Sox and has gone deep five times in 18 games. He’ll have a strong chance to add to that total with this game being played at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, where the park’s extreme elevation has helped the ball carry in recent years.
  • MIA Catcher #50
Agustín Ramírez is at catcher and leading off Saturday’s game against the Giants.
It’s a bizarre-looking lineup from manager Skip Schumaker with Ramírez entering the leadoff spot while Jakob Marsee draws out of the lineup for the first time this season. Esteury Ruiz is making his first start of the year in center field. The 24-year-old power/speed combo backstop is off to a frosty start at the dish, hitting .226/.298/.366 with two homers, 12 RBI and one steal through 25 games.
  • CLE Center Fielder #38
Steven Kwan was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays with neck stiffness.
Angel Martínez takes over in center field and will hit leadoff on Saturday afternoon in his place. It sounds like a precautionary move since Kwan also sat out Friday’s series opener, but was in Saturday’s initial lineup. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .227/.315/.289 with one homer, eight RBI and two steals in 25 games. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some point this weekend. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #0
Brandon Phillips announced his retirement from professional baseball.
Phillips technically has been unofficially retired for a couple years but he’s signed a ceremonial one-day contract to retire with Cincinnati where he spent 11 seasons from 2006-2016. He last appeared in the big leagues for the Red Sox back in 2018 before spending a couple years kicking around the independent leagues. The 44-year-old second baseman finishes a nearly two-decade run with a .275/.320/.420 slash line with 211 homers and 209 steals in 1,902 games from 2002-2018.
  • TB Right Fielder #17
Jake Fraley (leg) is in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Twins.
Fraley is back in right field and hitting fifth following a brief two-game absence due to a right leg contusion. The 30-year-old will continue serving in a righty-mashing platoon role.
  • CWS Catcher #3
White Sox selected the contract of C Drew Romo from Triple-A Charlotte.
Romo gets the call to join Chicago’s active roster in a backup role with the club deciding to move on from veteran Reese McGuire. The 24-year-old catcher got into 19 games for the Rockies over the past two years, hitting .167 (9-for-54) during that span.
  • CWS Catcher #30
White Sox designated C Reese McGuire for assignment.
Chicago is pulling the plug on the McGuire experiment after he went 5-for-29 with three RBI in 11 games. The well-traveled 31-year-old signed a one-year pact following Kyle Teel’s hamstring injury last month.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #39
Trey Yesavage (shoulder) will be activated to make his season debut against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Blue Jays skipper John Schneider made it official that Yesavage will return to Toronto’s injury-decimated rotation with Eric Lauer going to the bullpen. The other ripple effect is Dylan Cease being pushed back to Monday with Patrick Corbin starting Sunday against Cleveland. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect is unlikely to shoulder a significant workload early on, but he still offers enough strikeout upside to warrant a roster spot in all fantasy formats.
