The Marlins will send down Agustín Ramírez and bring up fellow catcher Joe Mack prior to Monday’s game.

Doing this but sticking with Chris Paddack is a choice. Ramírez, though, isn’t doing enough offensively to justify putting up with his defense, even if he has shown some improvement there this year. Mack is a weaker bet than Ramírez on offense, but he’s an excellent defensive catcher who takes walks and hits the occasional homer. He’s batting .244/.388/.378 in Triple-A. Liam Hicks and Mack figure to split time behind the plate, with Hicks also serving as a DH. Mack won’t get Ramírez’s DH at-bats, so that could open some playing time for Christopher Morel.

Wyatt Langford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

Since coming off the injured list, Langford has gone 22-for-72 (.306) with six home runs and 13 RBI. That comes with a 17/6 K/BB ratio and one steal in 18 games, but this is still looking a lot more like the version of Langford fantasy managers were hoping for on draft day.

Jacob deGrom allowed two runs on four hits in six innings in a loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

deGrom also struck out eight and walked two while throwing 64 percent of his pitches for strikes. He gave up only one extra base hit on the day, but it happened to be a Griffin Conine double that brought in a run in the fourth inning. deGrom was aggressive with his slider usage today, throwing the pitch 50 percent of the time, while posting a 27 percent swinging strike rate on it. His four-seam command was a bit worse, which could be why he dialed back his usage of that pitch a bit. Regardless, this was a solid outing for the veteran, who will face the Guardians next week.

Eury Pérez allowed one run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rangers on Wednesday.

In Pérez’s first start since coming off the injured list, he struck out one and didn’t walk a single batter while throwing 65 percent of his pitches for strikes. Obviously, posting just a six percent swinging strike rate isn’t what you’d like to see, and much of that came down to the command of his sweeper in two-strike counts. The velocity and movement of most of his pitches looked exactly like what we saw before the injury. He did lose some extension on his secondaries, but that can change game-to-game based on the mound, so we wouldn’t read too much into that. His sinker command could have been better, and that’s something to look for in his next start, but he got up to 68 pitches in his one and should be back up over 80 pitches in his next start against the Rockies in Coors.

Blaze Alexander is back at third base on Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game with right knee discomfort.

Alexander was forced to leave Monday’s game, leading to Leody Taveras playing third base for the first time as a pro. He is batting ninth against the Angels.

Angels recalled OF Josh Lowe from Triple-A Salt Lake

With Jose Siri going on the paternity list, the Angels will turn back to Lowe, who was hitting .299/.397/.617 in 26 games at Triple-A with nine home runs and six steals. He still had a 26 percent strikeout rate and 13.3 percent swinging strike rate, but he was making more contact in the zone and more contact overall by being more aggressive. Lowe will have some contact issues and is unlikely to ever re-produce the season he had in 2023, but he also has intriguing raw tools and warrants regular playing time on an Angels team that is going nowhere.

He had a 6.00 ERA and a 30/22 K/BB in 36 innings between Triple-A Albuquerque and Rochester this season.

Braves optioned RHP JR Ritchie to Triple-A Gwinnett.

It just hasn’t come together for Ritchie, who has allowed 10 runs (nine earned) in 10 innings in his last two starts. The Braves could put Reynaldo Lopez back into the rotation, but Hurston Waldrep (elbow) could also be ready to make his season debut for Atlanta.

Braves selected the contract of RHP Ian Hamilton from Triple-A Gwinnett

Hamilton was with the Braves earlier in the season but was designated for assignment after allowing three runs on two hits in one inning. He re-signed a minor league contract and is now back up with Atlanta again.
