Berríos will undergo additional imaging out of an abundance of caution after experiencing more soreness than usual following his latest rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo over the weekend. It’s a safe assumption that the Blue Jays are going to take their foot off the gas an have the veteran righty make another rehab start before he’s ready for his season debut. His absence means Eric Lauer will remain in Toronto’s injury-depleted rotation a bit longer.

Troy heads back to the minors to accommodate the arrival of Jesús Sánchez, who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays earlier this week. The 24-year-old rookie has hit .217 (28-for-129) with four homers and one steals in 45 games for Arizona this season.

It sounds like Goodman will avoid a trip to the injured list, but he’s on the bench after making an early exit from the late stages of Monday’s series opener with right thumb soreness. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him get a couple additional days off to rest and recover this week since the Rockies have nothing at stake during the final two weeks of the season. It’ll be Brett Sullivan taking over behind the plate in his absence.

Freeland returns to face the division-rival Padres after missing just over three weeks with a pinched nerve in his neck. The 33-year-old southpaw has posted an inflated 6.37 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 103/28 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings over 23 starts this season. He’s not a recommended fantasy option at this point in his career.

Fulford will occupy a spot on Colorado’s bench and get some opportunities to face left-handed pitching down the home stretch. He’s been up a couple times over the last few years, but hasn’t been able to stick in a backup role behind starting catcher Hunter Goodman.

Castaño has been an up-and-down relief option for Colorado this season, posting a respectable 3.62 ERA across 27 1/3 innings of work.

Machín heads back to the minors after spending roughly two weeks with Colorado in a bench role. The well-traveled 32-year-old infielder went 3-for-6 at the plate during his latest stint in the big leagues.

Giants manager Tony Vitello said Devers will require three months to recover following the procedure, which puts him on track to have a relatively normal offseason and be ready for the start of spring training. He’ll enter his age-30 campaign on the heels of consecutive 30-homer seasons and will be an early-round selection in all fantasy drafts.

Espada elaborated that Correa didn’t suffer a setback or a new injury, but the daily workload of the ramp-up process became too much for him to handle less than five months removed from major ankle surgery. The hope was that Correa would be ready to return for the final week of the regular season before contributing in the postseason. That’s no longer happening.

Pratt has served as Milwaukee’s primary shortstop since arriving in the big leagues back in mid-June. It’ll be defensive standout Joey Ortiz getting the nod in his absence.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sasaki will not be activated from the injured list this week. The widely-held expectation was that Sasaki would return to Los Angeles’ rotation later this week, especially after they sent down Emmet Sheehan following a pair of strong outings. Clearly, the Dodgers don’t want to take any chances that he suffers any sort of physical setback as he returns from a blister issue. It sounds like he’ll be ready to pitch in the postseason, possibly as a reliever like he did last postseason, but his odds of making it back before the regular season concludes appear very slim.
