He was just promoted to Double-A, so all except the last two of those innings came in High-A ball. He’d probably need to add a tick or two to his fastball in order to make it in the majors.

Nootbaar heads to Arizona as a quality option against right-handed starters and won’t reach free agency until 2028. The 28-year-old corner outfielder has hit .234/.333/.354 with three homers and one steal in 183 plate appearances for the Cardinals since making his season debut back in early June.

It’s merely a procedural move as Gallen is going to be sidelined until the late stages of the second half due to an elbow injury. The 31-year-old resumed a throwing program last week but remains without a definitive return timeline.

Ferguson remains in the NL Central after posting a serviceable 4.01 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 22/11 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings for Cincinnati this season. He’ll operate in middle relief for St. Louis.
