Gilbert tossed two more scoreless frames, then surrendered another homer to Benge, a solo shot in the sixth. He couldn’t get through a full six innings, leaving with one out and two runners on at 99 pitches. He generated an impressive 21 whiffs to strike out eight batters. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 3.79 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 77/17 K/BB ratio across 73 2/3 innings into a start against the Orioles in Baltimore next Monday.

Oneil Cruz went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer to power the Pirates to a 10-6 win over the Astros on Tuesday.

Cruz knocked a base hit in the fourth inning, then slugged a go-ahead, three-run blast off Mike Burrows in the sixth. It was the third home run in four games for Cruz and his 14th on the season while slashing .259/.331/.475 with 43 runs scored, 44 RBI, and 19 steals across 266 plate appearances.

Cam Schlittler yielded a season-high five runs — four earned — in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Guardians.

Schlittler didn’t allow more than three runs in any of his previous 12 starts, but his fastball velocity was down one mph tonight and he gave up eight hard-hit balls to go along with a season-low three strikeouts. It’s probably just a blip, but it needs to be watched. He’s slated to face the Red Sox on Sunday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Aaron Judge (ribs) will visit a specialist on Wednesday.

Boone added that Judge remains day-to-day after imaging revealed a bone bruise in his right rib cage that was leading to lingering shoulder soreness for the last couple weeks. The 34-year-old generational talent sat out his first game of the season during Tuesday’s loss to the Guardians. It doesn’t sound like he’s headed to the injured list at this juncture. A clearer update on his status should come later this week.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Garrett Crochet has been diagnosed with a low-grade lat strain.

It’s an encouraging development that imaging didn’t reveal any structural damage in Crochet’s shoulder after he was shut down from throwing over the weekend due to lat tightness. The 26-year-old fantasy ace will remain without a definitive return timeline until he’s cleared to begin a throwing progression. It seems highly unlikely that he’ll make it back until after next month’s All-Star break given the nature of the injury and how much time he’ll need to build up his arm strength and pitch count from ground zero.

CIN Starting Pitcher #25

Rhett Lowder (shoulder) struck out eight and allowed three runs over five innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Louisville.

Lowder gave up six hits and didn’t hand out a free pass, throwing 70 pitches (50 strikes) over five frames. The 24-year-old averaged 94.1 mph on his sinker and 94.5 mph on his four-seam fastball, which is an extremely encouraging sign. He’s on track to return to Cincinnati’s rotation for a road start against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Justin Verlander

DET Starting Pitcher #35

Justin Verlander (hip) recorded three strikeouts over five shutout innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Toledo.

Verlander scattered four hits and averaged 93.5 mph on his fastball during his latest rehab outing. The really encouraging sign here is that he was able to sustain his velocity through the 64-pitch outing. The 43-year-old future Hall of Famer figures to rejoin Detroit’s rotation this weekend to take the ball against the Mariners at Comerica Park. He’s been on the shelf recovering from a hip impingement since early April.
Shane Baz

BAL Starting Pitcher #34

Shane Baz surrendered two runs over seven innings on Tuesday in a win over the Red Sox.

Baz authored his fourth consecutive quality start, limiting Boston’s lineup to just a pair of sacrifice flies over seven strong frames. He finished with six strikeouts and only issued a pair of walks. The 26-year-old former top prospect has allowed three earned runs or fewer and completed at least six innings in four straight outings since May 9, lowering his ERA from an inflated 5.48 to a more palatable 4.29 mark during that span. He’ll close out a two-start week with a road matchup against the division-rival Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre on Sunday.
Drake Baldwin

ATL Catcher #30

Braves manager Walt Weiss said Drake Baldwin (oblique) could potentially return in mid-to-late June.

Baldwin hit the injured list with a low-grade right oblique strain back on May 19. The 25-year-old rising star, who was hitting .303/.389/.543 with 13 homers and 38 RBI in 48 games prior to the injury, is on track to return to Atlanta’s lineup at some point during their next homestand, which runs from June 16-21. His return should provide a significant boost for the Braves and fantasy managers alike, as he’s delivered first-round value this season.
Josh Naylor

SEA 1st Baseman #12

Josh Naylor (back) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Mets.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Naylor is available off the bench, if needed. Patrick Wisdom draws the start at the cold corner in his place. The 28-year-old slugging first baseman’s back tightened up on him while crushing a game-tying home run during the seventh inning of Monday’s series opener at T-Mobile Park. It doesn’t sound like a significant concern, but back issues can be complicated matters, so Seattle doesn’t want to take any chances. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale.
