Updated 12/4 at 12:00 PM ET. Removed Marvin Jones and Jordan Matthews. Added DeVante Parker. Moved Anquan Boldin, Wendell Smallwood, Dorial Green-Beckham and Zach Ertz up.
Davante Adams is the WR7 by average points. Let that sink in for a moment. Davante Adams, he of the 9.7 yards per reception in 2015. He of the “bench this bum for Jeff Janis.” He of the everything that is wrong with the Green Bay Packers is averaging more fantasy points than all but six wide receivers with five games to go.
How did we get here? Adams got healthy. Plagued by injury, Adams missed three games last season, and was limited for at least twice that many. The fantasy community — myself included — took that to mean he was bad. We weren’t the only ones. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel speculated in July that Adams would need a “big summer” to keep his roster spot. All of us were wrong, and Adams has been right for an offense that desperately needs him.
That is not to say Adams comes without risk for fantasy owners. He’s a modest 22nd in targets (86), and has seen fewer than 10 in each of his past four games. That’s not typical WR1 volume. He helps make up for it by drawing looks in the money area. 15 of Adams’ targets have come inside the 20, eight inside the 10. It’s how he has eight touchdowns, two of which came last week. Adams will have down games, but his upside makes him worth gambling on in the volatile 10-20 region of the board.

QB Notes: The Saints are averaging 34 points in New Orleans, with a low of 23. Drew Brees has 19 home scores, which would rank 12th overall. The Lions can try to play keep away all they want. They won’t be slowing Brees in the Superdome. … Aaron Rodgers’ Week 12 play finally matched his box score. Rodgers carved up the Eagles’ supposedly good defense, and now sports a 27:7 TD:INT ratio on the season. A rapidly softening Texans defense is an unimposing home matchup. … Even with a limited supporting cast as he comes off knee surgery, Ben Roethlisberger hasn’t been slowed by anything except Week 11 wind. Big Ben completed 37-of-45 passes for 408 yards and three touchdowns in his most recent home start. Coming off a Josh McCown Hawaiian Island weekend, the Giants aren’t going to know what hit ‘em. … Tom Brady’s Week 13 concern is a uniquely Patriots one — will the Pats demolish Jeff Fisher’s pathetic Rams team too thoroughly too early? Fisher’s teams have been out-scored 104-7 in their past two meetings with Brady and Bill Belichick. Even without Rob Gronkowski, Brady will be cutting a path of Gen. Sherman-ian vengeance.
The Jets’ pass defense isn’t quite the laughingstock it was early in the season, but a rested Andrew Luck should find what he’s looking for in New York — lots of open receivers. That is, of course, as long as T.Y. Hilton (back) plays. If Hilton sits, Luck could take a rankings tumble. … The QB4 on the season, Matt Ryan is the QB9 over the past five weeks. Assuming the Falcons can do what Denver couldn’t — block Justin Houston — Ryan will have a fine day at home, where he’s averaging 333 yards. … All the way up to QB8 status on the season, Kirk Cousins is the QB2 over the past five weeks. He’s cleared 21 fantasy points in 9-of-11 starts, giving him an extremely high floor. The Cardinals are a foreboding matchup on paper, but have begun to spring leaks as the offense struggles. Bruce Arians’ defense has also fattened up on a remarkably easy slate of quarterbacks. I’m giving Cousins something I’ve rarely afforded him in the past: The benefit of the doubt. … Russell Wilson got hammered and harassed in Week 12, but has a get-right home matchup in a demoralized Panthers defense missing a number of key players.
Matthew Stafford is averaging 237 yards over his past eight starts, with 12 touchdowns to show for it. He has five scores since Week 6, and is the QB27 by average points over the past five weeks. He is averaging 17.6 fantasy points in his past five games. Stafford will have to throw to keep up in the Superdome — 300 yards is likely for anyone in the Coors Field of football — but nothing in his 2016 usage suggests he’s about to make like the “old Matt” and pop off for 400/4. The Saints have also improved against the pass, albeit against soft competition. Stafford deserves a matchup boost, but even No. 9 is really pushing it. … Colin Kaepernick produced 38.1 fantasy points in Week 12, more than any other quarterback. He’s the QB3 by average points over the past five weeks. Nevertheless, a conservative rank still feels prudent. Despite slight recent improvements, the 49ers are a bad team headed on the road. The Bears are bad, too, but have played dogged defense at home, even as injury and suspension hollows out John Fox’s starting 11. Kap has established both floor and ceiling, but I’m not willing to place a huge bet on the latter in Week 13.
Playing through a finger injury, Derek Carr gets a tough Bills defense. The game is in Oakland, but Week 13 is not set up as a ceiling week for the still-ascending quarterback. … Philip Rivers has 10 touchdowns over his past four starts … and eight interceptions. He’s been inconsistent, not that it’s anything new. With Tyrell Williams playing through a potentially limiting shoulder injury, Rivers probably isn’t going to go bonkers against a Bucs defense that just owned Russell Wilson’s soul. … Dak Prescott has at least two scores in each of his past nine starts. He’s legit, but so is the Vikings defense he’ll be facing on the road. Prescott’s two-touchdown floor will probably double as his Week 13 ceiling. … The QB21 by average points over the past five weeks, Cam Newton could be missing Kelvin Benjamin (shoulder) for Carolina’s trip to Seattle. … Jameis Winston has thrown for at least two scores in 5-of-6 starts. The Chargers are a pedestrian passing foe. Winston will likely get his TDs in San Diego. … A pitiful QB19 by average points, Eli Manning hasn’t bothered to establish upside.
Carson Palmer still has a decent fantasy floor, but his ceiling has been lacking for some time. Palmer has just two more touchdowns (eight) than interceptions (six) over his past four starts. On the year, 17 quarterbacks are averaging more fantasy points. … With Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas at his disposal, Trevor Siemian is averaging 296 yards over his past four starts. The concern for Week 13 is his left foot sprain. Siemian could be pulled off the board by Friday. … Alex Smith has been flat bad this season, but with Jeremy Maclin (groin) on the mend and Tyreek Hill continuing to heat up, Smith is a passable QB2 against a Falcons defense allowing the most quarterback fantasy points. … Joe Flacco and Andy Dalton are professionals whose general competence keeps them in the QB20-25 range. … Carson Wentz has five touchdowns over his past seven starts. There’s zero upside to be found. … Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brock Osweiler remain at risk of in-game benchings. … Yeah, let’s make Matt Barkley do that again before taking him seriously. … Jared Goff had a decent half against a mediocre defense. Let’s see him have a good quarter against the Patriots.

RB Notes: David Johnson, Le’Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott are having quite the battle for the yards from scrimmage crown. Johnson is averaging 142, Bell 140 and Elliott 137. No one else is averaging more than 116. Amongst fantasy football’s big three, Johnson has the Week 13 edge against a Redskins run defense allowing 117 weekly yards and 4.68 yards per carry. No team has surrendered more rushing scores (16). … Who needs thumbs? LeSean McCoy played with only one in Week 12 and still managed 19/103/2 as a rusher, totaling 134 overall yards. For Week 13 he gets a Raiders defense allowing 4.62/117. The Silver and Black have coughed up 12 rushing touchdowns. Fire up McCoy and his nine fingers. … No. 4 in yards from scrimmage? Melvin Gordon. The Chargers’ back hasn’t been quite as consistent or explosive as the Big Three. He’s averaged fewer than 3.5 yards per carry in 5-of-11 games, and devoured 20.5 percent of his yards from scrimmage in one contest. Nevertheless, he’s a weekly lock for volume and scoring opportunities. The Bucs are not a worrisome opponent.
Missing linemen, receivers and a quarterback, the Bears’ offense is a threat to derail. It’s just that Jordan Howard’s matchup is too good to ignore. Even though they stymied Jay Ajayi last Sunday, the 49ers are still allowing an incomprehensible 172 weekly rushing yards. The Bears’ only legitimate threat, Howard has the volume for big time Week 13 success. … Doug Martin has 52 touches in two games since returning from his hamstring injury. The Chargers are solid against the run, but have been victimized for 15 rushing scores. On the field in all situations for an offense that keeps improving, Martin’s end zone odds are high. … Devonta Freeman finished as the RB6, RB15 and RB20 during Tevin Coleman’s three-game absence. His Week 12 return? RB7. Better rested, Freeman has been more effective when Coleman plays this season, something the coaching staff predicted over the summer. Surrendering 121 rushing yards per game, the Chiefs are an exploitable foe. … Spencer Ware has gone five straight games without 20 touches and four straight without 100 yards from scrimmage. He’s still getting good volume (54 touches over past three games), and is a near weekly lock for 60 yards rushing, but Ware’s early-season ceiling seems lost to the ages.
Try as he might, Matt Forte can’t quite pull away from Bilal Powell. It’s a smaller problem than you might guess in an offense now most concerned with hiding Ryan Fitzpatrick, but Forte’s ceiling weeks are hard to predict. The good news is, he has a ceiling, as well as a 15-touch floor. … Back from the dead along with the rest of the 49ers’ offense, Carlos Hyde has 205 yards from scrimmage over his past two starts. The Bears have been run tough for most of 2016, but down yet another key defender (ILB Danny Trevathan), there’s not much standing in Hyde’s Week 13 way. … Nicks and bruises and Brock Osweiler are weekly concerns for Lamar Miller, but come hell or high water, he seems to get his 20 touches. Miller is averaging 21.6. The Packers’ formerly-imposing run defense has been torn to shreds by injury. … I’m being stubborn with Jay Ajayi. His production has waned and the Ravens are a stay-away matchup. I simply can’t ignore his volume. It doesn’t matter the opponent: Ajayi is carrying the ball a bare minimum of 15 times. He has the ability to make any game a blow up.
As mentioned earlier, Bill Belichick has out-scored Jeff Fisher 104-7 over their previous two matchups. Think LeGarrette Blount is going to have some time to kill? … Jeremy Hill was predictably shut down by the Ravens. That’s not news. His receiving usage was. Hill set career highs in catches (six) and targets (six). Hill will be a much more predictable RB2 in Giovani Bernard’s absence. … “Good” doesn’t describe Devontae Booker’s play. That would be a bigger problem if “monstrous” didn’t describe his volume. Booker has 51 touches over his past two games. That plays against any opponent. … Latavius Murray is the RB15 by average points despite rushing for more than 60 yards once in nine games. He’s catching enough passes and scoring enough touchdowns to produce RB2 value. … Seattle made Thomas Rawls one of Week 12’s biggest busts. “George Farmer” also stole passing-down/comeback mode snaps. Disappointing, but Rawls remains worth betting on for an offense that desperately needs him. There will be touchdowns. … Workloads haven’t been a problem, but Frank Gore is averaging 47 yards rushing over his past five games. His upside is nonexistent against the Jets’ stout run defense.
Mark Ingram/Tim Hightower probably remains a coin flip, but Ingram’s 167-yard explosion against the Rams is certainly a nice Week 13 tiebreaker. Ingram’s (toe) health does require monitoring. … Rob Kelley, Jonathan Stewart and Todd Gurley are all high-volume RB2s who don’t catch passes. They produce in fantasy when they score, but usually disappoint when they don’t. None of the three have good Week 13 matchups, limiting them to low-end RB2 status. … I haven’t quite figured out the standard league obsession with Theo Riddick. The RB21 by average points, he has six carries inside the 20, and one inside the five. He does have four receiving touchdowns, but how are you supposed to predict those? … Paul Perkins creeped back into the Giants’ Week 12 committee, but got out-touched 17-11 by Rashad Jennings. We’ll assume Jennings maintains a clear edge. … Kenneth Dixon and Terrance West have devolved into a 50-50 timeshare. Dixon out-snapped West 31-23 last Sunday. He wins the Week 13 coin toss. … It’s extremely dire at RB30 and beyond. Don’t bother with the Jags unless Chris Ivory (hamstring) plays. The Vikings? Have we learned nothing? Pats’ pass catchers? One game is not a trend for Dion Lewis.

WR Notes: The Chiefs are allowing the second most fantasy points to wide receivers. Julio Jones will get back on the 100-yard train. … With five games to go, Mike Evans is one catch shy of matching his career high (74). He has 10 touchdowns for the second time in three years as an NFLer, and 1,000 yards for the third time in three. … Jordy Nelson hasn’t been the same during his age-31 season, but like all elite players, he’s found a way. So savvy, so tough, Nelson’s lost step has barely been noticeable during his WR6 campaign. … Poised to shrug off his back injury, T.Y. Hilton will welcome Andrew Luck back with open arms. No. 5 in yardage (942), Hilton has cleared 75 in 6-of-11 games. … Doug Baldwin has essentially been producing as a rich man’s Larry Fitzgerald. A near lock for 6/60, Baldwin will have big games down the stretch. … Speaking of Fitz, he’s cooled, but the Cardinals’ lone reliable receiver, he’s caught fewer than five passes once in 11 games. He’s cleared 50 yards in 10-of-11. That’s a floor worth investing in.
Michael Thomas is all the way up to WR9 status on the season. Already producing more than he did in college, the rookie wideout offers everything a fantasy owner could be looking for: Volume, big-play potential and red zone looks. It’s not a fluke that he’s emerged as the Saints’ No. 1 receiver. … It’s Thomas’ teammate Brandin Cooks getting the Week 13 attention. Fresh off complaining about his role through backchannels, fantasy owners are fancying a “squeaky wheel” week, a … wholly unscientific reason to start a player. It’s safe to assume Cooks will not be in for another zero-target game. It is not safe to assume he’s going to blow up simply because he complained. The WR11 on the season, Cooks is a moderate-risk, high-reward option in a solid home matchup with the Lions. … With Rob Gronkowski limited to one quarter over the Patriots’ past two games, Julian Edelman has caught 16 balls on 28 targets. Good luck to Jeff Fisher, who thinks Danny Woodhead still plays for the Patriots, in stopping him. … There’s not a lot to say about Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Most weeks they’re great, some weeks they’re not. The Bills are a middle-of-the-road matchup.
Emmanuel Sanders has one more catch than Demaryius Thomas (61-60), but 92 more yards (830-738). Thomas has one more touchdown (5-4). Sanders is the more targeted player (106-93), but I’d be lying if I said I knew how to forecast the situation. The Jags are not a good matchup. … Brandon Marshall is soldiering along, though he hasn’t posted more than 70 yards since Week 5. He has one touchdown in six games. Even in favorable matchups like this week’s with the Colts, it’s tough to see the WR1 upside. … Quincy Enunwa had his first 100-yard game last weekend, but is the No. 2 receiver in an offense “led” by Ryan Fitzpatrick. He’s averaging six targets over his past six games. He’s tough to call a WR3. … Donte Moncrief has five touchdowns in six games. He’s averaging a modest 42 yards, but it stands to reason that number will slowly rise. … Returning from a knee injury, Stefon Diggs should pick up where he left off as the Vikings’ heavily-targeted No. 1 receiver. The Cowboys have allowed a staggering, league-worst 173 receptions to rival receivers. Adam Thielen reverts to afterthought.
DeAndre Hopkins and Allen Robinson are who they are at this point. There’s no miraculous turnaround coming. Hopkins has maintained volume, but is averaging a pathetic 11.1 yards per catch thanks to his overwhelmed quarterback. Robinson has had a few blowups — Blake Bortles has had more. Hopkins has the more appealing Week 13 matchup. Robinson’s couldn’t be worse in the Broncos. … The WR15 by average points, Jamison Crowder has an attackable matchup in a Cardinals defense that’s struggled to contain slot receivers. Unless Patrick Peterson (knee) is sidelined, the same cannot be said for DeSean Jackson. Pierre Garcon could compile as a WR4 if Jordan Reed (shoulder) sits. … Kelvin Benjamin figures to play through his shoulder injury. He will not play through Richard Sherman. Benjamin is merely a borderline WR2 for the final week of the fantasy regular season. … Even against the Saints, Golden Tate doesn’t have a WR2 case. He’s a glorified PPR option who hangs his hat on volume. … Marvin Jones drew 11 targets on Thanksgiving. We’ll consider it a fluke for a player who had 29 total looks over his previous six games. The Lions’ offense hasn’t been fitting Jones’ skill-set.
Tyrell Williams is dealing with a potentially debilitating shoulder injury. The Union-Tribune San Diego considers his rest-of-season effectiveness “wait and see.” Williams has downside to match his upside in a plus matchup with the Bucs. … Dontrelle Inman is the better play behind Travis Benjamin. For whatever reason — probably his PCL injury — Benjamin isn’t meshing with the Chargers’ offense. … Jordan Matthews is a compiler in an offense that doesn’t score touchdowns. Dorial Green-Beckham offers more Week 13 upside. Just remember that he has zero-catch downside. … With Xavien Howard (knee) finally expected to return, Steve Smith Sr. and Mike Wallace will be limited to WR3 status against the Dolphins’ improving secondary. … Arguably the most important player in the Chiefs’ offense right now, Tyreek Hill doesn’t figure to fall off the radar if Jeremy Maclin (groin) finally returns. … Sammy Watkins looked good in his Week 13 return, but is dealing with discomfort in his troublesome foot. Anything from injured reserve to a big game Sunday is a possibility. … Marquess Wilson is absolutely worth a WR3 roll of the dice following last week’s explosion. The 49ers are allowing the most fantasy points to enemy receivers. … Battling a back issue, DeVante Parker will be high risk against the Ravens’ stingy pass defense.

TE Notes: With the boss (Rob Gronkowski) injured again, Jimmy Graham gets the nod at the top. No. 2 in tight end yardage (706), Graham has scored three times in his past four games. Throw in a matchup with a Panthers defense allowing the third most tight end fantasy points, and Graham has a clear edge on Greg Olsen. … Olsen is No. 1 in tight end yardage (790), but just 180 of it has come in his past five games. Olsen is the TE23 by average points over the past five weeks. With the Panthers’ offense really faltering, Olsen seems unlikely to awaken against a Seahawks defense surrendering the sixth fewest fantasy points to enemy TEs. … In between Graham and Olsen is Travis Kelce, who’s had three 100-yard efforts over his past five games. This, after Kelce posted two 100-yard games across his first 38 career contests. Everything is working in Kelce’s Week 13 favor, from an A+ matchup in the Falcons to Jeremy Maclin’s (groin) mysterious status.
Tyler Eifert is the Bengals’ No. 1 receiver, but has a rough matchup in an Eagles defense that’s permitted a mere 31 tight end grabs in 11 games. Eifert is always a great bet to score, just don’t count on him to compile this week. … “Any reaching motion” is “very painful” for Jordan Reed (AC joint). Reed played through the issue on Thanksgiving, but is genuinely questionable for Week 13. If Reed sits, Vernon Davis isn’t a great backup plan against a Cardinals defense allowing the fewest tight end fantasy points. … Kyle Rudolph caught a season-high nine passes on Thanksgiving. Now he gets a Cowboys defense that’s allowed a league-worst 75 tight end receptions. Even if Stefon Diggs (knee) is ready to roll, Rudolph will be a top-shelf TE1. … Eric Ebron’s zero-target Week 12 can’t be considered anything other than a fluke. Ebron had drawn at least five targets in each of his first seven games. The Saints, especially in New Orleans, are a get-right matchup.
Like Eric Ebron, Antonio Gates’ zero-target Week 12 looks like an outlier. Gates was averaging 9.3 targets over his previous four games. He’ll be back. Hunter Henry remains a bottom-end TE2 dart throw. … Cameron Brate has emerged as a steady red zone presence, drawing 11 targets inside the 20 and six inside the 10. Couple that with a 4/40 receiving floor, and Brate is a safe, if low-upside, TE1. … Brock Osweiler’s safe space, C.J. Fiedorowicz has a nice floor against a Packers defense that’s allowed the third most tight end yardage (772). … If Gronk sits, Martellus Bennett is a near lock to bounce back from last week’s 3/22 catastrophe. Bennett is more floor than ceiling, however. … The TE6 over the past five weeks, Vance McDonald is emerging as the 49ers’ No. 1 playmaker. That’s admittedly not saying much, but McDonald has been more consistent with Colin Kaepernick than Blaine Gabbert. … Coming off a 67-yard effort, Ladarius Green has been ticketed for more snaps. He’s an upside, free-money TE2.
