Welcome back to the Saturday Injury Report and welcome to the championship week of the playoffs!
Every week I’ll be looking at injuries across the league for the upcoming slate of games.
Championship Games
Bengals @ Chiefs
Two notable names are on the injury report this week. QB Joe Burrow was listed on the report with a knee injury and WR Tee Higgins was on the report with a thumb injury. It should come as no surprise that both players practiced in full all week and should be good to go this Sunday.
The Chiefs on the other hand have a couple of injury situations worth monitoring. For starters, S Tyrann Mathieu is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. Mathieu practiced in full on Thursday and Friday, and I expect that he will clear the league’s concussion protocol and suit up on Sunday. RB Darrel Williams is another player listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. Williams practiced in full on Wednesday, before being downgraded to limited practices for Thursday and Friday. Williams should play on Sunday, but it’s quite likely that he will see limited work. Both RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire and RB Jerrick McKinnon should see run ahead of Williams on Sunday.
Niners @ Rams
It looks like the San Francisco 49ers might be without the services of OT Trent Williams this Sunday. Williams did not practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that Williams is “adamant that he’s going” and added that he’d be “surprised if he (Williams) doesn’t.” Williams does appear to be a true game-time decision. RB Jeff Wilson logged a limited practice on Friday after not practicing on either Wednesday or Thursday. Wilson is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Wilson isn’t expected to play much of a role even if active, as it’s clearly the RB Elijah Mitchell show.
The Rams will get OT Andrew Whitworth back for Sunday’s game. Whitworth practiced in full on Thursday and Friday and should be good to slide back in as a starter this weekend. WR Van Jefferson is listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup. Jefferson did not practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday and Friday. I do expect him to suit up this weekend and continue to operate as the team’s deep threat. He will likely be behind WR Odell Beckham and TE Tyler Higbee in the pecking order for Sunday’s matchup. RB Cam Akers did not practice on Friday, but it appears to have been a chance for him to rest.
