QB Notes: Brock Purdy continues to melt the computers and finance new data centers with the way he’s lighting up the spreadsheets, but he’s in the wrong place at the wrong time for Week 5. The Seahawks are permitting the fewest passing yards in the league, and held Purdy to three sub-par starts in 2025-26. The overall sorry state of the quarterback position keeps Purdy in the top 10, but this is not going to be a spiked week. … Joe Burrow’s final rank will depend on the health of his top-two wideouts, Ja’Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (adductor). Facing the rebuilding Dolphins, Burrow will find himself in the top 12 no matter what, but this has the potential to be two drastically different game environments. … Each successive injury further hollows out Jayden Daniels’ (elbow) floor. The same isn’t really true of his ceiling. If you knew Daniels was going to play all 60 minutes, you would confidently rank him as a top 12 QB. Since predicting injuries even for “injury prone” players is a fool’s errand, we must rank Daniels as if he will finish Sunday’s contest against the Giants.
Trevor Lawrence is playing well. He’s also finished in the top 12 only one time through four starts, his QB7 outing in Week 1. The Jags are comfortable London favorites vs. the embattled Eagles, but Philly has still permitted only four passing scores. The Jags’ implied team total of 24.5 is strong but not leaping off the page. Lawrence’s top-five day will come. I’m not really seeing it in Week 5. … For the first time since last Week 17, Drake Maye had a certifiably good start. With his back against the wall vs. the Bills, the third-year pro finished as the QB2 overall. He still mixed in a pick, but he maintained his rushing floor while boosting his season touchdown total by 300 percent. A mental boost as much as anything else, Maye is hopefully in a much better place heading into a matchup with a surprisingly strong Raiders defense. … Jacoby Brissett is currently the QB18-21 by average points depending on your games played slider. That feels exactly right if you have seen him play or perused his box scores. That will not be enough to hold off Carson Beck in the long run. It is just enough to treat him as a true streaming option for Week 5 against the shockingly defense-less Lions.
The Shoughening was finally put on hold in Week 4. Young — ok, old — Tyler finished outside the top eight for the first time all year. QB15, to be exact. That’s not a disastrous outcome for a floor effort. It could also be a sign of things to come. This Saints offense is living off volume more than efficiency, and Week 5 opponent Minnesota leads the league with 16 sacks. With no run game to speak of, the Saints are too predictable on offense. That’s a bad thing to be vs. Brian Flores. … Kyler Murray hasn’t been Nineing through two Vikings starts, but he has been Wentzing. These are mediocre days matched by mediocre box scores. He’s also yet to play a full game with Justin Jefferson and has overseen #QBWinz each of the past two weeks. The Saints’ defense is not good. I’ll let Murray linger near the QB1/2 borderline a bit longer. … Justin Herbert is waiting for his “Drake Maye moment.” It seems extremely unlikely to come against the Broncos with Ladd McConkey, LT Joe Alt and RT Rashawn Slater all projected to be on the shelf.
It didn’t seem like things could get worse for Jalen Hurts than the Eagles going 0-12 on third down in Week 4 as they played without DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and RT Lane Johnson (personal). Well, Smith remains sidelined, Saquon Barkley (hamstring) and Tank Bigsby (core muscle surgery) have joined him, and future Hall-of-Famer Johnson has retired. Oh, and the Eagles must set sail for London. Hurts’ legs mean he probably has to always remain in the top 20, but the time has come for a QB1 rankings pause. … Kirk Cousins has posted multiple scores in all four starts, three times reaching three. He’s in the top 10 by average fantasy points despite Tre Tucker being his “No. 1 receiver.” I know this is cooking the books a little bit with Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty, but work with me here. Will Cousins keep this going? No. Are the Patriots a good matchup? Also no. Will you regret quitting while you are ahead? Triple no. Does stuff like Cousins being the clear QB16 just kind of happen sometimes? Yes. … Bo Nix has not been good. He has also not been bad enough to drop outside the top 20.
Michael Penix Jr. is absolutely killing it, but from an efficiency perspective rather than volume. He’s also a true statue in the pocket. Penix has 33 completions through two starts to go along with four rushes for -4 yards. That means his excellent “real life” play just isn’t translating to fantasy, and that he needs to be ranked behind several quarterbacks who aren’t playing as well. … I was going to allege that Deshaun Watson is being graded on a sliding scale because of his nonexistent 2026 expectations, but he is the QB13 in terms of EPA per play. He is the QB17 by average fantasy points. Just fine. The Jets are a perfectly fine matchup. If you are looking for QB13-17 returns, you have come to the right place. If you want floor or ceiling that might actually win you a week, look elsewhere. … Jalon Daniels ran enough in his Week 4 starting debut to earn desperation streamer appeal vs. limited defenses like the Cowboys. … There was a point in Tyler Huntley’s career where it appeared he would develop into a priority streamer. That time was 2021-23, which might as well be a century ago by modern American standards.
