The Athletic’s Nate Atkins believes Rams WR Konata Mumpfield “could be the primary backup on the perimeter” if WR Puka Nacua or WR Davante Adams miss time.

Mumpfield enters his second NFL season after posting a 10/92/1 receiving line in the regular season last year. He chipped in three catches for 22 yards in the playoffs. Were he to get a spot start, he is not guaranteed to be fantasy-relevant. Atkins lists sixth-round rookie WR CJ Daniels as the most likely player to assume No. 3 wide receiver duties, primarily due to his blocking. He also has some contested-catch ability. Mumpfield is a name to know for 2026, but he is unlikely to meaningfully contribute in the box score if Nacua and Adams are healthy.

The statement comes with positives and negatives. On the one hand, Atkins believes the sixth-round rookie is the favorite to start in three-wide receiver sets. On the other hand, Daniels’ fit is due partially to his blocking ability. Getting on the field is the first step toward fantasy-relevance, though. Daniels is a player to watch closely in the coming months.
  • LA Wide Receiver
Daniels (6’2”/202) is a sixth-year prospect who made stops at Liberty (2020-2023) and LSU (2024) before finishing his career at Miami in 2025. What Daniels lacks in speed (4.58 40-yard dash), he makes up for with creative route running and an impressive ability to pull off contested catches (62.3 percent contested catch rate, per PFF). He’s a good downfield threat and broke out for 55/1,067/10 in 2023 at Liberty, but Daniels’ production fell off in his final two seasons when the level of competition was ramped up while playing for LSU and Miami. Given what we saw from Daniels in his post-Liberty career, it seems unlikely he will look like the player we saw in his breakout season when he’s facing NFL-caliber talent on every snap. He has very limited experience on special teams, returning just three punts in his career and never logging a single snap on the kick/punt coverage units. Despite his sixth-round pedigree, he’ll face an uphill battle to make a 53-man roster in his rookie season.

Daniels revealed his meeting with the team in a recent interview. He has also met with the Titans, Broncos and Panthers. Daniels posted a 50/557/7 receiving line in his fifth and final college season. Shipley believes Daniels (6'2/202) could provide a big-bodied, physical element that is currently missing in the Jaguars’ wide receiver room. The Jaguars notably tried to sign Seahawks WR Jake Bobo (6'4/207) earlier this offseason.

He also adds that a Day 2 selection is in play. Neither Davante Adams nor Puka Nacua are likely going to see their 2026 production threatened by a rookie wideout, but Adams is in the final year of his contract and the depth at the position hasn’t shown much for the Rams. Konata Mumpfield, who played outside while Adams was dealing with a hamstring injury late in the season, would figure to lose major dynasty stock if the Rams spent an early pick on a wideout.
  • LA Wide Receiver #15
Mumpfield had an eight-target game in Davante Adams’ hamstring-related absence and certainly appears to be the main backup wideout on the outside after the Rams picked him in the seventh round of last year’s draft. He finished the year with a 10/92/1 line. There’s not an obvious fantasy vacuum for him to step into even if he managed to be the main third receiver in 2026 — especially given how successful three tight-end looks were for the Rams this year. Still, he’s an interesting dynasty bench stash after making good progress in his rookie year.
  • LA Wide Receiver #15
With Davante Adams out due to a hamstring injury, Mumpfield was given a chance to make some plays. He didn’t make enough of them, as Matthew Stafford just missed on a few connections with the seventh-round pick of this year’s draft. If Adams can’t go in Week 17 against the Falcons, Mumpfield will be in the conversation for fantasy relevance in that contest. If Adams can go, there’s not enough upside for consideration in redraft formats.
  • LA Wide Receiver #17
Adams has been rehabbing this hamstring injury for weeks. He played through it without issue in Week 14 but suffered a re-injury in Week 15. Tonight’s absence was expected. It gives rookie WR Konata Mumpfield a chance to establish himself as a contributor, though expectations must be held in check. He should not be started in re-draft formats. The Rams also declared CB Ahkello Witherspoon, QB Stetson Bennett IV, RB Jarquez Hunter, OL Beaux Limmer and OLB Nick Hampton inactive in Week 16 against the Seahawks.
  • LA Wide Receiver #15
Nacua continued to say that Mumpfield “has been behind him and watching him and is someone we see as Tae’s apprentice.” While The Athletic’s Nate Atkins wouldn’t come out and directly say it, he did note that Mumpfield is “built most like Adams of the group at 6 feet 1, 185 pounds” and noted Mumpfield was the player that took on the majority of the snaps when Adams left Week 15’s game against the Lions. You probably don’t want to bank the fantasy playoffs on Mumpfield, but those in deeper leagues or playing the Thursday-only DFS contests may be interested in rolling the dice on the rookie seventh-round wideout.
  • LA Wide Receiver #19
He and Konata Mumpfield (33 snaps, zero catches) led the Rams’ WR3 platoon with Jordan Whittington only playing seven snaps. None of these players are worthwhile roster spots in this current incarnation of the Rams’ offense, though perhaps if a team thoroughly game-scripted the Rams they’d pop up. Nobody has really stepped up to fill the Tutu Atwell role to this point.
  • LA Wide Receiver #15
Mumpfield made his first NFL catch a week ago and then got in the end zone for the first time on a five-yard strike from Stafford today. He ran 10 routes to Tutu Atwell’s nine. With Puka Nacua expected to return after the team’s upcoming bye, fantasy managers can ignore the Rams’ depth receivers going forward.

    49ers signed P Jack Bouwmeester to a three-year contract.

Bouwmeester joins former undrafted free agent Corliss Waitman on the 49ers’ roster, with the two presumably set for an offseason position battle in camp and during the preseason. The Australia native averaged 44.5 yards per punt with the Longhorns in 2025.

Seahawks placed NT Deven Eastern on the physically unable to perform list.

The seventh-round pick missed most of OTAs and mini-camp with an unspecified injury and will now be moved to PUP, presumably to pave the way for the Seahawks to add another camp body to their roster. Eastern possesses solid intangibles but was likely on the outside looking in for a roster spot during his rookie season considering the presence of both Byron Murphy and Brandon Pili.

Ravens signed C Ethan Pocic to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.

The longtime Browns standout heads to a wide-open situation for a perennial contender following the departure of Tyler Linderbaum this offseason. Pocic would appear to have the inside track to the starting center job considering his veteran status, although he will need to prove his health after tearing his Achilles in December of 2025. His new deal includes a $3 million base valuation, after which he can earn an additional $1.5 million in incentives.

Bleacher Report’s James Palmer reports Aaron Donald is “putting himself through football workouts” to determine if he is in shape to return in 2026.

Palmer was quick to point out in his report that Donald has always been a player who has been in great shape, but that “there are differences in football shape and staying in shape.” Donald was spotted working out at the Rams’ facilities last week. Palmer said he believes Donald is currently in the process of checking boxes to evaluate where he stands physically and whether or not he can return to the field and play at a high level after two years away from the game. The Rams aren’t actively pursuing Donald or discussing money with him, per Palmer, but it’s clear the door is opened for him to return if he chooses to do so. Veterans will report to Rams camp on July 25th, which could serve as a soft deadline for when we might expect to get word on a decision from Donald.

Christensen started four of the eight games he appeared in for the Panthers last season and has started 34 games over his five-year career. He played exclusively at right guard in 2025 before a torn Achilles ended his season in Week 8. He earned a PFF offensive grade of 74.6 while allowing just one sack and five pressures.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Alvin Kamara’s base salary was reduced to $6 million for 2026.

Kamara can earn up to another $2.5 million via incentives. He was initially set to make up to $11.5 million before his deal was restructured on Wednesday. The Saints were pushing for him to take a pay cut this offseason, but it initially looked like Kamara wasn’t going to budge. Instead, he gives some money back and gets to stay in New Orleans, where he has been adamant about wanting to finish his career. Kamara will serve as Travis Etienne’s backup, likely seeing most of his work on passing downs. He could have some FLEX value in PPR leagues, but Etienne should see most of the carries and still some targets.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport believes that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) is “on track to be on the field Week 1.”

Mahomes is rehabbing ahead of schedule after a torn ACL/LCL ended his 2025 season. If all goes according to plan, it will be just under a nine-month recovery for him, which is on the quicker end of most ACL/LCL recover anticipated timelines. Rapoport reports Mahomes has been spending “seven hours or so in the building rehabbing as much as humanly possible.” It’s still an awfully optimistic timeline but Mahomes is targeting a Week 1 return and it “certainly does seem like Mahomes is on track to be on the field Week 1", according to Rapoport.

Cowboys WR George Pickens will officially play under the franchise tag for the 2026 season.

The July 15th deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign long-term deals came and went without Pickens signing a new deal. Cowboys executive vice president Steven Jones had said in April that “there won’t be negotiations on a long-term deal” with Pickens. The 25-year-old wide receiver showed up for mandatory minicamp and does not plan to hold out of training camp, either. He will play on a $27.3 million franchise tag and will either reach a contract extension after the season or enter unrestricted free agency in 2027. Pickens will be the WR2 across from CeeDee Lamb in 2026; both have ceilings in the fantasy WR1 range.

Grier was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He made two starts as a rookie and hasn’t seen the field since. Grier spent time with five different teams after being released by the Panthers. He returned to Charlotte this offseason but decided against another year of football. His career ends with 228 yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions.
