ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports Giants players and coaches are “begging” Jaxson Dart to slide at the end of scrambles.

Raanan said Dart slid feet first at the tail end of a third down run during a recent training camp practice — his first slide in 11 camp practices. His teammates approved. “We’ve been begging him to do that for a while,” Giants outside linebacker Brian Burns said. “So, I’m glad that he’s starting to practice it.” Giants head coach John Harbaugh said he “clapped” and “applauded” upon seeing Dart slide instead of initiate contact with an oncoming defender, as he often did during his 2025 rookie season, resulting in a series of head injuries. One of the first topics new quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan discussed with Dart in the spring was the importance of avoiding big hits when he leaves the pocket, according to Raanan. Dart has said, per Raanan, that he “would still try to run over defenders” near the end zone. If Dart takes the advice seriously, he should have a healthier second NFL season.

Part of this stems from asking Jaxson Dart to “run a more traditional offense,” meaning more under-center snaps for the second-year pro as opposed to last year’s shotgun-heavy offense that Brian Daboll built while heavily borrowing from the Ole Miss playbook. Another part of it in Duggan’s estimation is that the Giants pass rush has been “dominant” early in training camp. “You can’t even imagine how much there is for a quarterback to operate with, especially in a new offense,” John Harbaugh said. “He’s done an outstanding job.” It’s probably too soon to be overly worried about Dart this year, but he does profile as a risky fantasy pick in Matt Nagy’s new offense.

The gist of what Harbaugh is saying is that Dart is able to play in many scheme configurations, but what fantasy managers will love to hear is the idea that the Giants are open to running RPOs and quarterback-driven runs with one of the best athletes at the position last year. Harbaugh downplayed the risk of injury to Dart by comparing his style to Lamar Jackson and noting that Jackson would “look[s] at you like you’ve got three heads” if you commented about playing safer. Dart is going just outside the top 100 picks on most websites in mid-July — though he’s 70th in ADP at Yahoo! — and figures to be in the QB1 conversation this year if he can stay healthy.

Garafolo added, “Other team leaders spoke up as well, and Dart and the players worked through it.” Dart caused a bit of a stir when he got on the stage at Rockland Community College to introduce Donald Trump for a political rally. Giants defender Abdul Carter took to X to voice his displeasure and offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor felt the need to clarify that the locker room was fine. Head coach John Harbaugh has reportedly spoken to Dart about the incident. Harbaugh himself has met with Trump previously, though in a much less public fashion. This story will eventually fade into the background, but it’s not a great start to Harbaugh’s tenure as the Giants’ head coach, nor Dart’s first season as the full-time starter.

Callahan reportedly made this the subject of one of their first meetings this offseason. That’s probably a good thing. Dart rarely hesitated to get physical as a scrambler and missed Weeks 11-12 due to a concussion. He was checked for concussions in multiple games. After taking over as the team’s starter in Week 4, he was the QB8 in per-game scoring, averaging 20.5 fantasy points per game. He still projects as a QB1, even if he slides on scrambles more often.

“It sounds like we’re not going to be throwing the ball a lot,” Dart said during a recent town hall with Giants fans and reporters when asked about how New York’s offense might look under new OC Matt Nagy. “We’re going to keep giving it to [Cam Skattebo] until they can stop it.” Skattebo said during the town hall that he was still learning to trust his surgically repaired ankle. He pledged to be ready to go for Week 1. If he’s not fully healthy for the season opener, look for Tyrone Tracy and perhaps Devin Singletary to take on bigger workloads.

We are once again waiting all day for a Sunday night. With the schedule release week officially upon us, the league announced on Monday that the Giants would kick off the season hosting the Cowboys for Week 1 of SNF. The John Harbaugh-led Giants will put their offseason rebuild on display on national television against a Cowboys team that finished 7-9-1 last season, largely due to their struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Both teams are hoping to show enough improvement to keep pace with the Eagles, who have finished first in the division two of the last three years.

Nagy landed with John Harbaugh’s team after three years as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator and will now be charged with developing Dart in his second pro season. “When I think of Nagy with Jaxson Dart, I think of the spectacular season the new OC helped Alex Smith put together in 2017, with so many spread-offense elements baked in not just to maximize Smith but to develop Patrick Mahomes,” Breer said. “All the movement stuff the Chiefs were doing that year, in theory, should apply organically to Dart’s physical skill.” Kansas City ranked tenth in both offensive success rate and EPA per play over Nagy’s three seasons as OC. They were in line with the Dolphins and Seahawks in drop back EPA with Mahomes at the helm.
  • NYG Head Coach
It’s quite the downgrade for Callahan after failing in his lone season at the helm in Tennessee. Callahan will now work with second-year QB Jaxson Dart to develop his game following a promising rookie season in which he threw for 15 touchdowns and five interceptions over 14 games, while rushing for another nine scores. Hopefully Callahan’s total inability to develop Cam Ward in Tennessee isn’t a harbinger of things to come for Dart and the Giants.
  • NYG Offensive Coordinator
Nagy never worked directly with Harbaugh, but Schefter notes that Harbaugh coached under Andy Reid, who has been somewhat of a mentor to Nagy. The two have spent well over a decade together between Philadelphia and Kansas City. Reid even stumped for Nagy as a head coach this offseason. On the other hand, he just replaced Nagy, whose contract was up, with Eric Bieniemy as the team’s offensive coordinator. Nagy just spent three years in Kansas City and the team never finished better than 15th in points per game. Defenses have changed to stop teams like the Chiefs specifically, but the results speak for themselves. Perhaps the change of scenery will inject some creativity into Nagy’s offense, but we aren’t holding our breath.
  • BAL Offensive Coordinator
John Harbaugh is expected to officially sign with the Giants later today. His refusal to move on from Monken was reportedly one of the reasons for his falling out with the Ravens. The Bucs are also interested in Monken for an OC gig. That would reunite him with Baker Mayfield after the two spent a year together in Cleveland. Of note, Jim Harbaugh also has an OC opening, though we suspect Monken will simply stick with John and head to New York. Though Lamar Jackson’s play fell off this year, Monken got an MVP season out of him and nearly picked up a second, though Josh Allen swiped the award at the final hour. The hope will be that Monken’s success with the hyper-mobile Jackson will translate to a second-year leap for Jaxson Dart. Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo would also get a boost in early drafts if Monken signs on.

Chargers T Rashawn Slater said he had a “little flare up” with his knee last week.

Slater has not practiced since Thursday, but said it is “nothing to be concerned about.” OK, if you say so. After watching how the Christian Darrisaw situation unfolded last year in Minnesota, we think you’re well within your rights to be a little concerned about this even if we’re not in the realm of outright panic just yet.

Puka Nacua left practice early with the trainer on Tuesday and Rams coach Sean McVay said he “isn’t sure what the deal is just yet.”

Same. We’ll monitor this, but there’s not any actionable advice to hand out until we get a more detailed report. A non-minor Nacua injury, of course, would be stratospheric news in the fantasy community.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Coby Bryant (knee) underwent surgery and will miss 4-6 months.

“Bears are hoping he can return for the playoffs,” Schefter notes. It’s a brutal blow for the Bears to lose their star free-agent acquisition before training camp even concludes. Chicago didn’t exactly have a stellar defense last year, so perhaps this will make every Bears game a track meet.

Mike Evans (quad) returned to practice on Monday.

He was limited to individual work, but it’s a good sign that Evans is back on the field at all. It does seem like his quad injury isn’t much to worry about and that he can be drafted with that in mind.

ESPN’s Benjamin Solak reports Deshaun Watson is doing “a lot of short-yardage option running” when he watched training camp.

Solak believes he is “not sure he’s the same athlete he was before,” but running quarterback is a way that Watson could find some fantasy usefulness in deeper leagues while he’s starting. We’ll believe it when we see it and there’s not a locked in job here for Watson, but perhaps this is a way to make him a bye week starter in superflex leagues.

ESPN’s Benjamin Solak reports Germie Bernard “ran almost exclusively with the second-stringers” during 11-on-11s and “struggled with some of the finer details of the playbook.”

Not a glowing review. Combine Bernard’s struggles with the idea that the Steelers might remain run-heavy this year (also espoused by Solak) and it feels like Bernard might just be a deep-league bench option this year. It should be noted that the overwhelming majority of the drumbeat about Bernard this offseason has been positive, so perhaps this was just an off-day.

Rams coach Sean McVay said EDGE Myles Garrett (knee) didn’t participate in today’s joint practice because of “a little bit of swelling.”

Ah, that doesn’t sound ominous at all. Garrett told McVay he’s at “85 percent” at the moment. Garrett had been practicing before this, so perhaps this winds up being nothing and they’re merely holding him out to be safe. But knee swelling does not tend to lead anywhere good.

ESPN’s Benjamin Solak believes the Steelers offensive identity will remain similar to 2025: “running the ball out of heavy sets.”

There’s been a strain of thought that Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers would go back to slinging it like it is 2016 again, but Solak left Steelers training camp believing things would mostly stay as they were last year. That’s good news for Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle, though neither of them profile as an easy-to-trust option while they split time.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports “multiple people” told him the Raiders expect Ashton Jeanty to be “a bigger part of the passing game this season.”

It makes some sense given how the offseason played out, as the Raiders never really settled on a potential third-down back until they signed Dare Ogunbowale once training camp started. Jeanty playing all three downs would be a major feather in his cap from a fantasy perspective should it come to pass. Jeanty caught 55 passes for 346 yards and five scores in 2026, but given the quality of receiver talent on this roster, he could do better in his second season.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Nick Emmanwori (ankle) has a chance to return in Week 1.

Framing it as “a chance” in the most optimistic time of the year tells us it’s far from a certainty. Emmanwori underwent surgery in late July. The second-year safety did pass his physical, taking him off the active/PUP list today.
