    Seahawks released RB Velus Jones.

An inexplicable third round pick for the Bears in 2022, Jones, 29, won’t make the Seahawks’ 53-man roster despite Zach Charbonnet (knee) starting the season on the PUP list. The Seahawks were Jones’ fifth NFL team. He has 197 rushing yards over 37 NFL games. Seattle’s final roster cuts included T Logan Brown, CB Michael Dansby, T Kellen Diesch, DT Deven Eastern, S AJ Finley, CB Andre Fuller, LB Jalan Gaines, WR Emmanuel Henderson Jr., WR Julian Hicks, S Maxen Hook, DE Aidan Hubbard, LB Jared Ivey, S Tysheem Johnson, RB Justin Jones, LB Marvin Jones Jr., C Federico Maranges, WR Rashad Rochelle, DT Uso Seumalo, LB Jamie Sheriff, DT J.R. Singleton, DT Bubba Thomas, CB Jordan Washington, WR Ricky White III, and RB Jacardia Wright.LB Power Echols, T Amari Kight, FB Brock Lampe and LB Aaron Smith were waived with injury designations.

The soreness info comes from a team spokesperson, who evidently opted not to share helpful details. Price has been practicing hard, at times taking reps with the first-, second- and third-team offenses, so a little soreness is unsurprising. We might end up learning that he is dealing with a minor injury at some point, though. The team could simply be playing coy. Until then, don’t panic. Price’s first-team usage is encouraging for his rookie season outlook and we still have a month to go before the season begins. Seahawks RBs George Holani, Emanuel Wilson and Velus Jones all got time with the starting offense in Price’s stead.
  • SEA Running Back #36
Holani will likely see RB2 reps — at least some of them — behind Kenneth Walker against the Rams on Sunday. He’ll be an interesting DFS punt. Velus Jones and Cam Akers are also on the roster, and one of them will probably be inactive on Sunday if Holani is up.
  • SEA Running Back #36
Macdonald’s phrasing suggests Holani, not RB Cam Akers nor RB Velus Jones, would operate as the team’s No. 2 running back behind Walker, with former No. 2 RB Zach Charbonnet sidelined by a season-ending ACL tear. Macdonald adds that it is “realistic” for Holani to play this week. He has a chance to take on pass-protection duties while chipping in as a rotational ballcarrier.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #84
Rice, the son of NFL Hall of Famer and former Seattle Seahawk Jerry Rice, was most recently on the Patriots’ practice squad. The Seahawks add him to their practice squad as depth to the pass-catching corps. The 23-year-old Rice appeared in three NFL games for the Chargers last season, but has not recorded a target on offense. The Seahawks also added RB Velus Jones to the practice squad.
  • FA Running Back #13
Jones was waived to make room for recent signee, TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden, formerly of the Ravens. Mitchell-Paden caught 1-of-2 targets for three yards this year. He entered the league as a 2022 undrafted free agent but had not taken any live receiving snaps until now.
  • NO Running Back #37
With Kendre Miller down for the year with a torn ACL, Estime looks like the replacement back between the tackles. Devin Neal is set up to have the first run behind Alvin Kamara, but it’s possible that Taysom Hill gets so many of the carries and gadget plays that Neal has no real ceiling. No need to rush out and claim Estime, but if he impresses the Saints in their building, perhaps he’ll get a shot later in the season. New Orleans re-signed Velus Jones to their 53-man roster as a direct replacement for Miller, but Jones is just a kick returner at this point.
  • NO Running Back #13
The Saints released Jones just two days ago. His presence on the practice squad gives them an emergency option for backup running back and kick return duties. He is not fantasy-relevant.
  • FA Running Back #13
Jones received two offensive snaps in five games with the Saints, operating as a returner. He’ll likely look to continue his career on a practice squad elsewhere.
  • NO Running Back #5
Miller added one kickoff return for 36 yards. It was an uninspiring performance as no Saints back averaged more than Miller’s 2.5 yards per carry. He notably surrendered two snaps on the opening drive to WR-to-RB convert Velus Jones. Jones rushed once for minus-one yards, caught 4-of-4 targets for 16 yards and returned two kickoffs for 73 yards.
  • NO Wide Receiver #28
Bouncing around after his disastrous Bears stint, Jones Jr. spent sections of last year with the Jaguars and Panthers while touching the ball on offense a total of four times in three active games. Entering his age-28 season, Jones Jr. is essentially a gadget player on offense and shouldn’t threaten for much playing time with the Saints if he makes the 53-man roster.

Texans agreed to terms with WR Tank Dell on a one-year, $1.7 million contract restructure.

The deal includes $1 million in guarantees while saving the franchise almost $2 million against the cap. Dell is reportedly nearing a return from the devastating knee injury suffered in Week 16 of the 2024 season but will begin 2026 on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss the first four games of the regular season. The contract restructure hints at a potential “prove it” year for Dell, giving the team options following 2026 pending health.

Bears agreed to terms with G Joe Thuney, DE Dayo Odeyingbo, and LB TJ Edwards on restructured contracts.

The moves create a solid $17 million in savings against the cap. The team found themselves right up against the salary cap before the restructures, now entering the regular season with about $22 million in space to maneuver.

Cowboys restructured TE Jake Ferguson’s contract.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys now have $33.2 million in salary cap space this year. They also reworked DT Kenny Clark and CB DaRon Bland’s deals. Ferguson’s $7.25 million base salary was turned into a signing bonus. For fantasy purposes, this does not alter Ferguson’s standing. The front office could have a personnel move in mind, though. Stay tuned.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Bears RB D’Andre Swift left practice early on Thursday due to “a cramp.”

Well, this is a pleasant update. Swift was seen leaving practice earlier today, “apparently holding at his midsection or core area.” After a brief scare, everything appears to be fine for the Bears’ starting running back. Swift enters 2026 as a safe RB2, playing in an expectedly efficient and explosive offense. Backfield mate, RB Kyle Monangai (knee), is currently rehabbing an injury, but last we heard, he has a chance to play in Week 1 against the Panthers. Swift could vault into a top-12 positional ranking if Monangai is unable to play.

The Athletic’s Dan Wiederer reports that Bears WR Rome Odunze (leg) “should be all good after leaving today’s practice.”

Let it be known that these are “preliminary indications” from Wiederer, but Bears fans and fantasy managers alike can breathe a sigh of relief. The team will now go on break over the weekend, and coach Ben Johnson will address the media sometime next week. The first injury report comes out on Wednesday, so we should have an update by then, at the latest. It should be noted that Odunze injured his left foot last season. Today’s injury is to his right leg, so the two issues are unrelated. This is not a re-injury. For now, there is reason for cautious optimism regarding Odunze’s health.

    Saints waived RB Devin Neal.

The Saints placed Neal on injured reserve with a hamstring injury over the weekend, but did not designate him as a candidate to return. He received an injury settlement, and could potentially return to the Saints if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Free agent QB Will Levis worked out for the Jets on Thursday.

Joining the Jets would make sense for Levis. The team could be hosting a starting quarterback competition next season, albeit with a player picked early in the first round. A chance to compete should not be overlooked by a player hoping to get things back on track.

The Chicago Tribune’s Sean Hammond reports that Bears WR Rome Odunze exited practice early on Thursday after suffering an apparent leg injury.

Per Hammond, Odunze “came up hobbling during an install period at the start of practice,” with what appeared to be a right leg injury. Apparently, Odunze “wasn’t overly concerned” and tried to continue practicing, but Bears trainers removed him from the field. That last bit is encouraging. Hopefully, Odunze’s Week 1 availability has not been jeopardized. Bears TE Colston Loveland and WR Luther Burden would benefit if Odunze cannot play. Odunze is backed up by WR Kalif Raymond.

The Chicago Tribune’s Sean Hammond reports that Bears RB D’Andre Swift exited practice early on Thursday after suffering an apparent injury.

According to Hammond, Swift “came off the field apparently holding at his midsection or core area” after taking a carry during team drills. Bears coach Ben Johnson labeled No. 2 RB Kyle Monangai (knee) as “week-to-week” on August 18th, though it was believed Monangai would have a chance to play in Week 1 against the Panthers. If Monangai is active and Swift is sidelined, Monangai would be a high-end RB2 at worst.

The Athletic’s Andrew Destin believes WR Rashid Shaheed “could very well usurp” WR Cooper Kupp as the No. 2 receiving option.

Destin echoes what ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler forecasted late in June. It’s nice to know that training camp performances have not altered expectations. Whether Shaheed can be more than a big-play-based FLEX option remains to be seen, but his ADP is hardly prohibitive. Stashing him on benches in Weeks 1-2 while monitoring his usage is a fairly low-risk move, though he is not a priority add.
