D’Andre Swift had 18 rushes for 124 yards and three touchdowns in the Bears’ Week 1 win against the Panthers, adding one catch for ten yards.

Chicago’s offensive line bullied the Carolina front seven from start to finish, creating wide open running lanes for Swift and Kyle Monangai, who had ten carries for 100 yards and a touchdown, as the Bears offense put up 59 points. Swift was the team’s preferred option near the goal line while Monangai had a slight edge in route running out of the Chicago backfield. Swift drafters should be thrilled to see their guy easily lead the Bears backfield, though his relative lack of route running could mean he’s somewhat game script dependent. Swift will be a top-12 option next week against the Vikings.

Swift shook off an early injury scare when he took a helmet directly to his knee to earn a season-high 26 opportunities in the absence of Kyle Monangai. This game had an entirely different feel than the previous game played without Monangai, during which Roschon Johnson was much more involved in a game the Bears held a 31-7 lead in the fourth quarter. The back-and-forth nature of Week 7 kept Swift on the field for more of the game, allowing him to return a legitimate RB1 performance on the backs of elite volume. Monangai could return as early as Week 8 considering the Bears now have 10 days until they play the Seahawks on Monday Night Football, potentially sending Swift back into the RB2 range in fantasy circles.

D’Andre Swift will serve as the team’s top back, while Roschon Johnson rotates in behind him. Johnson’s Week 6 fumble could result in less playing time. The Bears face the Seahawks in Week 8. Monangai was unable to practice all week. Hopefully, he returns next week and can be on the field on game day. Keenum will serve as the emergency third quarterback today.

Monangai will miss his third game in a row this week. Exactly two weeks ago, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Monangai’s turf toe injury would be an issue for 1-2 weeks. Technically, his statement remains accurate. This week’s Thursday Night Football game complicates things. If the Bears thought Monangai would miss four games, they likely would have put him on injured reserve, so he should, theoretically, be able to play in Week 8 against the Seahawks. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, and for those wondering, the Bears go on bye in Week 10. D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson have been splitting touches with Monangai sidelined. We do not yet know if Johnson will be punished for last week’s fumble though.
  • CHI Running Back #25
He hasn’t practiced yet this week and appears very unlikely to go on Thursday night. It would seem to be trending towards another week with Roschon Johnson as the backup runner for the Bears.

Swift again dominated backfield touches for Chicago with Kyle Monangai sidelined with injuries to his toe and hand. Roschon Johnson had 13 carries, with most of those coming after the Bears had raced out to a big lead (before that lead dwindled in the fourth quarter). Both of Swift’s touchdowns came inside the ten yard line. Swift should be locked in for at least 15 touches in Week 7 against the Patriots if Monangai remains sidelined. His involvement in the pass game provides a nice weekly PPR floor.
  • CHI Running Back #25
Bears coach Ben Johnson said Monangai is “trending in the right direction,” but remains week-to-week. D’Andre Swift should handle a sizable workload with Monangai sidelined. Roschon Johnson may be able to catch a few passes, but he makes for a shaky FLEX bet. Monangai should be stashed safely on fantasy football benches.
  • CHI Running Back #25
Exactly one week ago, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Monangai’s turf toe injury jeopardized his availability over the next 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately, he is on the wrong side of questionable at this time. Roschon Johnson could contribute on passing downs if Monangai cannot play, but D’Andre Swift will handle the majority of the backfield touches this week.
  • CHI Running Back #25
Monangai missed Week 5 due to thumb and toe injuries; he did not practice all of last week and was estimated as a non-participant for the Bears’ Wednesday walk-through. A DNP listing after already missing a week is not a good sign for the 24-year-old’s availability. Starter D’Andre Swift (hip) was notably not on the injury report. Monangai will need to practice to have a chance to play but fantasy managers will need to start looking at backup Roschon Johnson as a potential fill-in for Week 6 against the Falcons.

Swift was the only Bear to find the end zone in a throwaway performance where Tyson Bagent was benched for the fourth quarter. It was still a disappointing statline with Kyle Monangai (toe) on the shelf, but there just wasn’t much Swift could do with Bagent failing to threaten the Packers’ defense and the Bears’ D struggling mightily. Swift also lost a ton of passing-game work and targets to fill-in No. 2 RB Roschon Johnson. That’s a potentially disturbing development heading into Week 6 against the Falcons, with or without Monangai in the lineup. Thankfully, Caleb Williams (hamstring) should be back, shoring up Swift’s value in the RB10-14 range.
  • CHI Running Back #4
Despite an early-week DNP, Swift heads into the week in arguably a better position than he started it. We’re not sure how much workload he’ll handle with Kyle Monangai (foot) out, but it will certainly be a large majority of what the Bears do. Roschon Johnson figures to handle whatever Swift can’t, but isn’t a priority free agency pickup so much as a stash at this point.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Vikings plan to activate Jordan Mason (thumb) from injured reserve.

Mason came into the season as the presumed lead back in a timeshare with Aaron Jones, the latter of whom has performed as a true workhorse in Mason’s absence. Although it could take a week or two for Mason to fully regain the lead back role, his presence significantly mutes the potential of Jones. Expect a near-even split when the Vikings take on the Colts in Week 7.

Browns activated RB Dylan Sampson (knee) from injured reserve.

Sampson was limited in practice throughout the week and listed as questionable for Week 7 against the Titans. Now that he’s officially been activated from injured reserve, he’s likely to be Cleveland’s change-of-pace back behind Quinshon Judkins this week. Sampson is worth stashing on fantasy benches, but is truly just a desperation FLEX play coming off a knee injury that’s sidelined him since Week 1.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that several teams believe the Jaguars could trade WR Brian Thomas Jr.

Appearing on ESPN Saturday morning, Fowler, citing Thomas’ zero catches over the last two weeks, said something has to give in this situation. According to several teams the NFL Insider talked to, Thomas could be traded over the next few weeks. Fowler listed the Chiefs and Steelers as potentially interested teams and was emphatic that there will be suitors for Thomas. If you have Thomas in fantasy, it’s hard to imagine his value getting worse with a change of scenery. The Jaguars would appear content to roll with Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and Travis Hunter as their top receivers in the event of a Thomas trade.

The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones reports “it’s more likely than not” that the Lions work out an extension with TE Sam LaPorta before free agency.

According to one of Jones’ sources, Lions GM Brad Holmes “does not like losing his draft picks, especially high ones.” A second-rounder in 2023, LaPorta made waves earlier this week when he expressed frustration with his lack of a contract extension on the Pardon My Take podcast. While those frustrations persist, the 25-year-old tight end clarified some of his comments to local Detroit media Friday, reiterating his desire to stay with the Lions long-term. Jones notes that other extensions the Lions have handed out have taken some time to get done. He also cautions that the team shouldn’t wait too long to sign LaPorta as the Raiders are unlikely to waste time making Brock Bowers the highest-paid tight end in football when he becomes extension-eligible after the season.

The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones reports the Colts aren’t discussing a Jonathan Taylor trade yet.

Jones writes that his understanding is the Colts will wait a few weeks before deciding what to do with their star running back. Indianapolis decided to move on from GM Chris Ballard after a 2-4 start. The way things are trending, it’s easy to imagine the Colts still on the outside of the playoff race in a few weeks. At that point interim GM Ed Dodds could look to recoup draft assets the team lost in previous trades. According to Jones, moving Taylor “would be the most expedient route” to acquiring a high draft pick. Citing sources, Jones lists the Giants and Vikings as potential suitors if Taylor is made available on the trade market. Taylor signed a two-year extension with the Colts in August that hasn’t even kicked in yet.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (ankle) is “50/50" to play against the Bengals in Week 7.

Appearing on ESPN Saturday morning, Fowler said the Ravens are “hopeful” that Jackson can play against the Bengals. He added that the team isn’t “overly optimistic” because, according to a source, Jackson is “50/50" to play in Week 7. If Jackson can’t go, Tyler Huntley will get the start and fantasy managers will need a backup plan this week. At this point, it’s unlikely we receive more clarity on the situation before inactives are released Sunday morning.

Sam LaPorta said he wants to continue playing for the Lions long-term.

Earlier this week, LaPorta expressed frustration in an interview about his contract negotiations stalling in-season. The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy asked him a few follow-up questions today on the matter today, and LaPorta made clear that he hopes to remain a Lion long-term and is excited about the prospect of raising a family in Detroit. LaPorta seemed extremely earnest, saying he felt bad about his comments potentially causing a distraction for his team, but he knows his teammates care for him and want him to be happy and compensated. He handled the issue well and appears to be ready to play hard for a lucrative contract extension, which is good news for fantasy managers. LaPorta is a locked-in TE1 against the Packers this week.

Jevón Holland (concussion) is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Texans.

Holland, the Giants’ starting free safety, and Tyler Nubin (neck), the Giants’ starting strong safety, are both questionable to play. Meanwhile, starting perimeter CB Greg Newsome (concussion) has been ruled out. Expect the Texans’ passing offense to stay hot this week.

Rashid Shaheed (hip) is not on the Seahawks’ final injury report and will play in Week 7 against the Chiefs.

The Seahawks’ sporadic producer will be on the field against the Chiefs this week. Shaheed has been involved as a receiver and as a rusher, scoring touchdowns in consecutive weeks. He offers a low floor, but he makes for a viable FLEX starter this week.
