DK Metcalf caught 4-of-9 targets for 27 yards in the Steelers’ Week 2 loss to the Patriots.

Metcalf had an inefficient day, finishing fifth on the Steelers in yards despite leading the team in targets. He was unable to get open downfield and Aaron Rodgers’ struggles made many intermediate targets fell incomplete. Metcalf dropped a critical third-down pass in the third quarter, continuing his drop issues from last week. A second straight inefficient week despite a high volume of targets makes Metcalf a rough fantasy play moving forward. Despite Michael Pittman’s absence, the fantasy points are just not consistent for Metcalf in the Steelers passing game. He will be a low-end fantasy WR3 for Week 3 against the Bengals.

Aaron Rodgers couldn’t get much going outside of check-downs for the better part of three quarters. Then, in desperation mode, Rodgers started forcing targets to his No. 1 receiver. Metcalf saw 12 targets in the fourth quarter and overtime. He turned that into 81 yards, otherwise known as nearly all of his production for the day. Metcalf’s ability to win downfield and on the boundary isn’t being maximized by Rodgers, but the team is throwing so often that Metcalf can still rack up fantasy points with ease. With a vulnerable Saints defense on deck for Week 7, Metcalf is on the WR2/3 border as we approach the midpoint of the season.

Good news. Metcalf missed practice Friday and was listed as questionable, but has since been removed from the injury report and is expected to play this week. With the Steelers missing Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek, Metcalf could see even more targets than usual against Tampa Bay.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
This is unfortunate. The Steelers placed Michael Pittman on injured reserve recently, and both Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek are out this week. Metcalf has a chance to play this week, but fantasy managers must, unfortunately, keep an eye on the news over the next 48 hours. Rookie Germie Bernard could lead the team in targets again this week.

This was not the game many expected against a beleaguered Colts defense. Two of Metcalf’s three catches were on screens behind the line of scrimmage, and he was only targeted 10 yards down the field once. Aaron Rodgers is not having much success throwing the ball deep down the field, which means Metcalf is likely going to be a touchdown-dependent WR3 in fantasy next week against the Bucs.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
Metcalf managed just three receptions through the first three-plus quarters of play before making two grabs for 50 yards on the team’s penultimate possession, eventually resulting in a tie game with under two minutes to play following a successful two-point conversion. Even though this marks the third game in four tries with nine or more targets, Week 4 was the first game with more than 40 yards for Metcalf as he works to strengthen his connection with Rodgers in a downfield role. In fact, Metcalf more than doubled his year-to-date yardage total from the previous three games against two of the better coverage corners in the league. The individual matchup doesn’t get much easier ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Colts, who boast another top corner duo in Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward. Metcalf remains a wide range of outcomes weekly WR3.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
Metcalf has yet to crack 40 yards in a game this season, but he did manage to find the end zone for a six-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. The big plays have not been there for Metcalf thus far, who has a long catch of 16 yards. Metcalf will be on the WR3/WR4 radar for next week’s game against the Browns.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #11
Pittman did not practice at all this week. If he plays, he could be fairly limited. We tentatively expect him to be inactive on game day, though. Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth had a solid role last week and could take on No. 2 pass-catcher duties if Pittman indeed cannot play. Steelers WR DK Metcalf will almost assuredly take on a larger role, operating as the team’s receiving focal point.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
Metcalf caught just 4-of-10 targets in Week 1 and was flagged twice for offensive pass interference while struggling to make contested catches. It wasn’t ideal. But Rodgers’ words should sooth any thought of bumping Metcalf down the ranks just yet. “I’m not worried about DK at all, man,” Rodgers said.
  • PIT Wide Receiver #4
It could have been a much bigger day for Metcalf, who dropped an easy 20-yard catch over the middle of the field and also a potential long touchdown pass. The touchdown pass would have been a difficult grab in tight coverage, but it did hit him in the hands. Metcalf ran a route on every dropback for the Steelers, but Aaron Rodgers continued to show that he’s far more comfortable over the middle of the field than deep down the field at this point in his career. That will continue to make Metcalf a TD-dependent option in fantasy.

This was always though to be the case, with the team’s decision to keep only six receivers through cuts Sunday seemingly backing that notion up. Pryor adds that the teams is expected to “ease in” both Metcalf and Pittman, but it certainly sounds as if each receiver will be on the field in less than two weeks for Week 1.

Matthew Golden (shoulder) is not on the Packers’ final injury report and will play in Week 7 against the Lions.

A few Packers got a little banged up against the Cowboys last week, including Golden, but the breakout second-year wide receiver is good to go. This game profiles as a fantasy-friendly shootout. Golden should be started as a high-end WR2 with solid upside.

Brock Bowers (hamstring/calf) is not on Las Vegas’ final Week 7 injury report.

A Friday afternoon tradition unlike any other, Bowers was cleared after getting in two full sessions on Thursday and Friday. He can be played as an elite TE1, as usual.

Christian Watson (ankle) is not on the Packers’ final injury report and will play in Week 7 against the Lions.

Watson remained limited through the first two practices this week. We do not yet know his Friday participation level, but he seems to be ready for action. Watson belongs in the WR1 tier against a Lions’ pass defense that has freely surrendered big plays this season.

Jordan Love (back) is not on the Packers’ final injury report and will play in Week 7 against the Lions.

Love was limited on Wednesday before upgrading to full on Thursday. Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that his starting quarterback was “pretty beat up” after the Packers’ Week 6 win over the Cowboys. Hopefully, he is feeling much better by now. This divisional showdown looks like one of the most fantasy-friendly game environments in Week 7. He’s a QB1.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reports Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the season.

Edmunds will presumably be placed on IR before Week 7’s game against the Texans. He managed a 52.0 PFF grade in 380 snaps over six games, recording two sacks and 50 combined tackles. Edmunds will enter year two of his three-year deal with the Giants in 2027, in what will be his age-29 season.

Theo Johnson (neck) is doubtful for Week 7 against the Texans.

Johnson is not fantasy-relevant on his own, but he can help out the Giants’ offense in real life when he is available. Isaiah Likely is the Giants’ clear-cut TE1.

Andrew Thomas (groin) is not on the Giants’ final injury report for Week 7 against the Texans.

Thomas has played through injuries in multiple games this year. Giants RT Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) and backup OT Marcus Mbow (knee) both resumed practicing in a limited capacity on Thursday and are officially questionable to play this week. The Texans’ defense has underperformed this year. Perhaps this is a get-right matchup for them.

Brian Branch (Achilles) is questionable for Detroit’s Week 7 game against the Packers.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan believes Cam Skattebo “will be back in the mix” in Week 7 against the Texans, likely in “some sort of timeshare with Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary.”

Sigh. Three-player backfields are generally fantasy-unfriendly situations, and this one is no different. Skattebo is a capable dual-threat player who has seemingly been limited by the significant ankle injury he suffered last year. The Giants could get him more involved in the passing game, but Tracy can contribute there as well, muddying that opportunity. Singletary would not be a contributor for many NFL teams, but lucky him, he’s a New York Giant. Skattebo and Tracy are viable FLEX options, though both are likely touchdown-dependent.
