Jonathan Taylor rushed 20 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts’ Week 4 win over the Commanders.

Playing in London, Taylor needed just 78 yards to overtake Travis Etienne as the league’s all-time leading rusher in international games. Taylor didn’t disappoint with his third multi-score effort of the season. Marcus Mariota left the game early and the Colts pulled away in the second half, allowing them to lean on the ground game. With the passing game struggling throughout the first month of football, expect the Colts to continue to build their offense around Taylor. He remains near the top of the RB1 ranks for his Week 5 matchup with the Steelers.

The Texans focused first and foremost on stuffing Taylor, and outside of a stretch in the middle of the second half when Azeez Al-Shaair was pulled off the field for injury, they mostly did just that. Taylor did have a 24-yard scamper pulled off the scoresheet by a holding call. He’ll be back in the RB1 ranks next week against the Commanders.

Taylor’s one-cut rushing ability was on full display against the Chiefs while gashing Kansas City’s defense on outside zone runs. Both of his touchdown scampers came on such carries, the second of which knotted the game at 27 to eventually force overtime. Unfortunately for Taylor and the Colts, the two carries that mattered the most were stuffed for a combined negative-three yards following a 48-yard Laquon Treadwell reception in overtime, eventually forcing the Colts to kick a game-tying field goal. Patrick Mahomes would send Indianapolis to an 0-2 record on the following possession. Taylor gets a difficult matchup against one of the top defenses in the league in Week 3, but he will remain a locked-in RB1 against the Texans.

Taylor felt like the lone bright spot on Sunday for a Colts offense that struggled for much of the game. Taylor struggled at times on the ground, with nine of his 19 carries going for three or fewer yards, but he also broke free for five carries of 10-plus yards, with his longest run coming on a 21-yard burst in the third quarter. Taylor got the scoring started for the Colts in the first quarter when he plunged into the end zone for a one-yard score to give them the early lead, and found the end zone again in the second quarter on a three-yard score. Taylor was the only Colts running back to see a rush attempt in this one, and he saw four of the five running back targets. He’ll be firmly on the RB1 radar in next week’s game against the Chiefs.

Taylor and GM Chris Ballard both talked about their desire to get a deal done earlier in training camp, and it didn’t take long for the two sides to reach an agreement. The deal includes $39 million guaranteed and has another $3 million for Taylor to earn via incentives. He was set to be a free agent next offseason but is now signed through the 2028 season. Taylor slowed down once Daniel Jones got injured last year. Even with the quiet finish, his season-long numbers look incredible. He ran for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns while setting career-highs in receptions (46) and receiving yards (378). Taylor is rightfully the fourth running back to be taken in most fantasy drafts this summer.

Taylor, who had been a rumored hold-in, has actually participated in camp — though he did take a rest day on Friday — and Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon said she would love it if Taylor “would be a Colt for life.” It seems like there’s positive momentum on an extension here, though it isn’t done just yet. Taylor is currently going off draft boards as RB4 and a top-10 pick.

Indianapolis Star’s Joel A. Erickson puts it this way: “the Colts also find themselves at a crossroads. Ballard is headed into the final year of his contract; if Indianapolis does not win, the Colts could be headed for organizational change. A superstar running back might not fit in a rebuild.” It will be very interesting to see if Taylor holds in without a new contract. Ballard spent a lot of his press conference saying his own contract status — he’s a lame duck GM — won’t affect his ability to make long-term decisions. In his own words: We’ll see.

To be clear, the headline of this article said Taylor “could — and should — hold in” and the article itself mostly focuses on why he should and would have a lot of leverage if he attempted to. There’s not exactly a pull quote here from Taylor that suggests he’s leaning one way or the other. But Boyd has been on the beat in Indianapolis for a bit and we believe there’s a real chance this happens. Taylor didn’t technically hold in during an acrimonious contract dispute ahead of the 2023 season so much as he dealt with a right ankle injury that suddenly healed after he got a contract before Week 5. Boyd believes Taylor “despite being three years older, has more leverage now than he did in 2023.” The Colts certainly don’t have a real backup plan for him at running back based on how last season and this offseason went.

“If I can find another guy or two that can take some of those carries off, he’s just going to be that much better,” Smith continued. We’re not that concerned about this from a fantasy perspective because the Colts haven’t exactly invested in finding that player. “Obviously, he’s a hell of a player,” Colts coach Shane Steichen said. “It’s hard to take him off the field when he’s running so good.” Taylor should remain in the RB1 conversation this year, though it’s going to be harder to believe in him posting his early-season numbers if Daniel Jones’ Achilles injury limits him.

Taylor, 27, has totaled more than 320 offensive touches in each of the last two seasons. His current $14 million annual salary makes him the seventh-highest-paid running back in the league. Taylor has set multiple Colts records, operating as the centerpiece of Indianapolis’ offense for years. FOX 59’s Mike Chappell writes that it is “uncertain whether there’s a mutual desire to keep Taylor in Indy beyond 2025.” Multiple Colts stars, including DTs DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart, OG Quenton Nelson and WR Josh Downs, are also entering the final year of their deal. Chappell believes owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon “might believe it’s more prudent to allow the upcoming season to run its course rather than reinvest in lucrative contracts.” Time will tell.

That can change if the Colts select a ballyhooed running back in the 2026 NFL Draft, but at this time, Taylor looks like he should handle another RB1-worthy workload next season. Taylor’s 369 offensive touches in 2025 rank second at the position and he is one among just 10 NFL running backs to clear 300 offensive touches during the regular season. He logged 321 in 2024. No. 2 RB DJ Giddens touched the ball 18 times last season and therefore enters 2026 as an unknown. If Taylor can again remain largely healthy next season, he has decent odds of surpassing 300 touches again.

Rams signed LB Eric Kendricks to their practice squad.

The 34-year-old vet functioned as an emergency Fred Warner replacement last year and will presumably get a shot to be active for the Rams in the near future.

Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion said the team would continue operating under center.

Mannion defended his approach during a Tuesday presser, two days after the Eagles offense — missing DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley — sputtered to a loss against the Rams. The Eagles have put Jalen Hurts under center and utilized play action much more than usual this season. It’s a strategy that hasn’t paid off quite yet. Hurts ranks 31st out of 38 qualifying QBs in adjusted yards per attempt on passes from under center; his 18 percent success rate from under center is by far the worst in the NFL. It’s hard to envision brighter days ahead for Hurts if Smith remains sidelined. He’s barely startable in 12-team formats for now.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Rashawn Slater suffered a high ankle sprain.

The injury, sustained during the Bolts’ Week 4 loss to the Seahawks, will cost Slater between four and six weeks, Rapoport said. It’s yet another massive blow for the struggling Chargers offense. Through Week 4 the Chargers rank 30th in ESPN’s pass blocking win rate and fifth in run blocking win rate. Justin Herbert’s weekly prospects take a hit with the oft-injured Slate sidelined, as do the prospects of LA’s pass catchers.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Colts DE Arden Key (hamstring) will be out 3-4 weeks.

Key sustained the hamstring injury in Week 4’s win against the Commanders in London. Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Key will be sidelined for a while as he recovers from the injury. The Colts defense ranks 15th in pressure rate through the first four games of the season. They rank ninth in quick pressure rate.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Chris Brooks is undergoing tests on his ankle.

Brooks left the Packers’ Week 4 win over the Bucs with an ankle injury in the first half. He did not return after the break and LaFleur didn’t have any definitive answers about the injury on Monday. It sounds like his status for Week 5 is very much up in the air. After coughing up a goal line fumble, Kaleb Johnson would likely take a backseat to MarShawn Lloyd once again. Lloyd has some low-end RB3 appeal as the potential lead back, but this is ultimately a backfield to avoid for fantasy purposes if possible.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Lamar Jackson (ankle) has an “outside chance” of playing in Week 5 against the Falcons.

Dealing with a sprained ankle he sustained last week against the Titans, Jackson will sit out at least one game and could miss multiple weeks, according to Rapoport. Tyler Huntley will make his annual start or two (or three) for the Ravens when they take on the Falcons defense, which is allowing the third lowest drop back success rate in the NFL. It’s a downgrade for Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers, though both should be played in 12-team leagues in Week 5. Huntley should be added in all superflex leagues.

Devaughn Vele caught 6-of-9 targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Saints’ Week 4 loss to the Falcons.

Vele’s nine targets ranked behind only alpha Chris Olave, although he was headed for another modest fantasy outing before a garbage time touchdown with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the blowout loss. Vele has yet to eclipse 69 yards through the first month of play as he continues to operate in an intermediate role for a Saints team struggling to attack downfield. Fantasy managers could consider sitting Vele against the ferocious Vikings defense in Week 5.

Juwan Johnson caught 6-of-8 targets for 59 yards in the Saints’ Week 4 loss to the Falcons.

Johnson saw a slight uptick in snaps and routes after Noah Fant was inactive with an abdominal injury but returned a modest receiving line while being kept out of the end zone. The towering veteran finished third on the team in targets behind Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele, the latter of whom scored the only receiving touchdown in a game that saw the two teams combine for seven rushing scores. Johnson remains a back-end TE1 for as long as rookie Jordyn Tyson remains sidelined, which appears likely to persist for another few weeks, at minimum. That holds true ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the vaunted Vikings defense.

Chris Olave caught 8-of-12 targets for 116 yards in the Saints’ Week 4 loss to the Falcons.

Olave found himself with a relatively quiet receiving line in the first half as the Saints struggled to consistently move the football, something that has become far too familiar under head coach Kellen Moore’s tutelage. As has been the case for some time, Olave got going after the break, ending with his third 100-yard game in four tries, now trailing only CeeDee Lamb in receiving yards through the first month of the season. Fantasy managers will want to monitor the electric wide receiver’s practice status in the coming days after he pulled himself out of the game on the team’s final possession with some sort of ailment. If healthy, Olave remains an elite WR1 ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Vikings.

Alvin Kamara rushed seven times for 23 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints’ Week 4 loss to the Falcons, adding 35 yards on five receptions.

The Saints mustered just 16 running back carries in the first game without Travis Etienne, gaining just 50 yards on the ground in the blowout loss. The New Orleans offensive line was completely out-classed by the stout Atlanta defensive front. Kamara briefly departed with a knee injury that required two trips to the medical tent but would return to score his second touchdown of the evening in the fourth quarter. Kamara should continue to lead the backfield in the absence of Etienne and suddenly finds himself as an RB2 in fantasy circles ahead of a Week 5 meeting with the Vikings.
