Kimani Vidal rushed eight times for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ Week 5 loss to the Broncos.

Vidal showed off his potential to be a big-play back on a 42-yard touchdown that gave the Chargers a 17-10 lead. The 25-year-old did nothing outside of that carry, but in a game where offense was limited — limited is putting it nicely — it stood out. Vidal was more effective than Omarion Hampton (33 yards on 14 carries) and Keaton Mitchell (11 on six) but still seems likely to be behind both for Week 6 against the Chiefs.

Vidal got much of his work in the first quarter before Omarion Hampton worked into the backfield later in the game. Hampton ended up leading the Bolts backfield in both routes and targets, with Vidal a close second in both categories. When the Chargers return from the bye week, Vidal could see an increased role as the team looks elsewhere for production. He should be rostered in most deep formats.

Vidal took a flip pass from Justin Herbert for a touchdown to get the Chargers to within two scores. The 25-year-old saw plenty of reps as Los Angeles is clearly committed to the committee approach — no running back had more than ten carries — but outside of that score, he didn’t do much with them. The Chargers take on the Broncos in Week 5 and Vidal remains off the fantasy radar.

Mitchell’s box score would have looked a lot better if his 21-yard reception on a route out of the backfield had not been called back due to a penalty. Chargers starting RB Omarion Hampton played all three snaps on the opening drive before giving way to Mitchell, who played 10-of-10 snaps on the second and third drives. Fellow backup RB Kimani Vidal took the field as the Chargers’ kick returner to begin the game. He made his first appearance on offense on the Chargers’ fourth drive. Mitchell could return standalone FLEX value with big-play upside in this role. He reportedly visited the blue medical tent, but was allowed to return to the sideline. Hopefully, this is a non-issue.

Vidal stayed in for two drives and did not catch his only target. Tonight’s start suggests Vidal is behind RB Keaton Mitchell on the depth chart. Mitchell did not play, nor did starting RB Omarion Hampton. Vidal is a proven, capable fill-in starter, but he should only be drafted as the Chargers’ RB3 at this time.

Earlier this week, McDaniel said he plans to employ a hot-hand approach at the running back position and plans to “use all three of those guys probably every game.” NFL Daily co-hosts Gregg Rosenthal and Jourdan Rodrigue helpfully followed up on those comments, specifically regarding their fantasy football implications. McDaniel encouragingly prefaced his response by saying, “no one has to worry,” adding that benching productive players is “bad business.” If you were already bullish on one or more of Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal, these comments can be taken positively. Reading between the lines, if Hampton, the starter, proves his value as the team’s RB1, he should receive a fantasy-friendly workload.

Speaking to reporters Monday, Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that all three of Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell, and Kimani Vidal will be featured in the backfield this season. “Good news is I see all three of those guys performing at a very high level,” McDaniel said. “Kinda play hot hand once you’re into games.” While that’s not the best news for fantasy managers that invested second round picks into Hampton, the opportunity for the Chargers to turn heads on the scoreboard could result in a case of “a rising tide raises all ships.” McDaniel famously, and recently, made two backs top-six producers in fantasy points per game in the same season, with both Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane finishing 2023 in that range. Whether a similar situation transpires in Los Angeles remains to be seen.

It’s the kind of thing fantasy managers hate to hear. When speaking about his running backs on Monday, McDaniel said, “I see all three producing at a very high level,” while saying the workload for each back could depend on the opponent and who has the “hot hand.” While it’s certainly concerning on the surface, we feel pretty confident in Omarion Hampton having the safest role as far as fantasy is concerned, while Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal could prove a bit more volatile. Their volatility has been baked into their ADP all offseason, as Mitchell is often going in the 12th or 13th round of drafts while Vidal often goes undrafted. It may take some time to get a good sense of McDaniel’s plans for the backfield, but we would expect a clear-cut RB1 and RB2 to emerge this season.

Per Popper, the Chargers really like Mitchell’s ability to “press the edge and get explosives to the outside.” That said, Popper believes Vidal will “give Mitchell a push” for the role. He also believes that both players will make the final roster, regardless. If this is how the depth chart shakes out, one wonders whether Vidal could sneak onto the field in certain passing situations, potentially reducing Mitchell’s standalone viability. Mitchell was seen working in the passing game last week, though — something he rarely did in Baltimore — so it is too early to tell.

Vidal, Moton said, could drop to RB3 on the Chargers’ depth chart this offseason if free agent signing Keaton Mitchell is healthy following a 2024 knee injury that kept him sidelined for much of the 2025 season in Baltimore. The Chargers in march re-signed Vidal to a one-year deal as an exclusive rights free agent after he ran for 643 yards and three touchdowns during the 2025 season. He also caught 16 passes on 20 targets, mostly when Omarion Hampton was sidelined with injury. Look for Mitchell to gain steam in fantasy circles if Vidal leaves LA in the coming weeks or months.
  • LAC Running Back #30
He begins the offseason as the likely backup to Omarion Hampton. Vidal had a 155/643/3 rushing line last year and managed a few big weeks against weaker run defenses. We wouldn’t be totally surprised if Vidal continued to be fantasy-interesting this year, especially given how often Hampton was banged up in his first season in the NFL.

Mike Evans (ribs, Achilles) is active for Week 6 against the Commanders.

Evans will gut it out in Week 6 as fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel is unable to go. Look for the bulk of the aerial offense to flow through Evans, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey, the three of whom handily led the team in route participation a week ago following Samuel’s departure. Inactive for the 49ers are QB Kurtis Rourke, DE Nick Bosa, WR Deebo Samuel, S Marques Sigle, LB Garret Wallow, OT Enrique Cruz Jr., and DT Naquan Jones.

Stefon Diggs (hamstring) is active for Week 6 against the 49ers.

Diggs returns from a one-game absence due a hamstring injury. Although possible he sees his route participation curtailed, fantasy managers that made it this far are likely forced to ride with the veteran receiver in a solid schematic matchup against the zone-heavy 49ers. Inactive for the Commanders are QB Marcus Mariota, CB Fabian Moreau, CB Isaac Yiadom, OLB T.J. Magunranyanga, G Tanoa Togiai, and DE Charles Omenihu.

Bradford was placed on injured reserve after Week 1, seeing his first step to a return processed with the activation of his 21-day practice window. Packers signed DT Mazi Smith, formerly of the Dolphins.

Smith, a former first-round pick by the Cowboys in 2023, appeared in one game for the Dolphins earlier this season and has appeared in just nine games since 2025. The 25-year-old lineman has tallied 57 tackles and two sacks in his career and wouldn’t be asked to serve as anything more than added depth for the Packers if he were elevated to the 53-man roster.

Rams placed DL Kobie Turner (groin) on injured reserve.

It’s a tough injury for Turner, who is in the final year of his rookie contract and will miss at least four weeks. He’s been a mainstay of Los Angeles’ defense over his first three years with several high-hurry seasons and stellar run defense. The Rams interior defense has taken a big hit today.

Rams placed DT Poona Ford (biceps) on injured reserve.

It will end his season. Ford has been a find for the Rams the last two years as a premium run-stuffer. This injury will test their defensive line depth. The soon-to-be 31-year-old will be a release candidate after the season with an $11.08 million cap hit of which the Rams can save $9.25 million by cutting him.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Davante Adams (hamstring) will miss 6-10 weeks with a ruptured tendon.

Adams had a non-contact injury at the end of Week 6’s loss to the Cardinals and unfortunately is as serious as it appeared. He’ll likely be placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 7. His absence will further focus targets on Puka Nacua and likely elevate Konata Mumpfield into a bigger role. Adams had put together a 30/480/4 line in his first six games of the season. Adams will reportedly have surgery to “clean” out the tendon, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, in hopes he can return around the team’s bye week, which is scheduled for Week 11. It’s a major blow for a Rams team that is already reeling at 2-4.

Commanders activated Jeremy McNichols (quad) off injured reserve.

He’ll likely be Washington’s third-string back tonight, but one thing that two years and five weeks of Dan Quinn being in charge have taught us is that no one ever expects that Jeremy McNichols takeover until it’s too late. The backfield mix in Washington is weak and anyone could emerge in a post-'Bill’ world.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said he is undecided on whether or not Josh Jacobs will play in Week 7 against the Lions.

LaFleur said Jacobs will log a full week of practice but also pointed out that the 28-year-old back has “missed the exposure to football” over the last several months while on the commissioner’s exempt list. Jacobs was reinstated by the league late last week and is eligible to play immediately, but whether or not he will be active next week is to be determined. We’ll see how this week unfolds, but it would be a bit surprising if Jacobs was inactive in a pivotal NFC North matcup.
