NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo believes the Eagles could re-sign Andy Dalton.

Dalton is “an option” for the Eagles, who are down to two available quarterbacks this week, Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton, with Jalen Hurts having been ruled out preemptively due to a superficial blood clot in his calf. The Eagles released Dalton last week. A few teams have reportedly checked in with Dalton since his release, “though there’s familiarity and a clear role in Philly for him if he decides to return.”
Moore's officiating crew flexed from SNF
Mike Florio reacts to news that referee Alex Moore's officiating crew has been bumped from Sunday Night Football in Week 8 after facing widespread criticism after Week 7's matchup between the Packers and Lions.

McKee looked to be comfortable in the pocket to start but things quickly unravelled, with the veteran backup unable to improve upon a 21-yard completion to rookie Makai Lemon in the first quarter as he remained incapable of attacking downfield. Lemon would also be the recipient of McKee’s lone touchdown toss, marking the second consecutive start with just one touchdown pass in relief of Jalen Hurts. The offense looked far more functional while Saquon Barkley was on the field, but the veteran back was in and out of the lineup from the second quarter through the fourth, before ultimately being deemed questionable to return and missing the final frame. The Eagles drop their fifth straight for the first time since 2016 as they fall further behind the Giants for the division lead. McKee is not worth rostering ahead of a Week 8 divisional tilt against the Commanders.

This would effectively end Hurts’ season, as a three-month absence would have him on track to return some time in late-January/early-February. In a statement released by Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lyyn, she said further tests revealed “deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli.” She said that Hurts is stable and is not expected to have any “functional limitations” and that his treatment to resolve his blood clotting issues “should only involve anticoagulation [i.e., ‘blood thinners’].” As a result, Hurts will not be permitted to engage in football activities and will not be allowed to resume them until he is off his blood thinners. The good news here is that Hurts is expected to make a full recovery, and the doctors do not believe this will have a long-term effect on him moving forward. Hurts threw for 933 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions this season while completing 57.8 percent of his passes — his lowest mark since his rookie season. He ran for another 107 yards and one touchdown as he and the Eagles struggled in his first five starts under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. He remains under contract through the 2028 season, but Hurts has faced his fair share of scrutiny since leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2024. Hurts’ contract situation would suggest his job is more than secured for the foreseeable future, but this is the same Eagles front office that used a 2020 second round pick to select him as the heir apparent to Carson Wentz, who signed a four-year extension with the team in 2019. While we fully expect Hurts to be back with the Eagles next season, we can’t rule out the team using an early draft pick on a quarterback in a draft that is projected to be one of the more QB-rich drafts in recent memory. Tanner McKee, who started Week 6’s game against the Panthers, will take over as the team’s starter going forward.

Dalton had a chance to re-sign with the Eagles after being let go by them earlier in the week, but he spurned them to sign with Atlanta. The 38-year-old vet will presumably serve as the Falcons’ third-string QB for now, but could be one injury away from seeing playing time. Dalton threw for 293-1-1 on 37 pass attempts for the Panthers last season and has not started more than five games in a season since 2022.

The Eagles released Dalton less than two weeks ago. According to Florio, the Eagles reached out to Dalton with an offer after Jalen Hurts’ superficial blood clot moved in his calf, resulting in an indefinite sidelining, and Dalton told the Eagles, “no, thank you.” Florio did not reveal where Dalton plans to sign, but we should get word on that before long.

The very first play of the game was a play-action pass where McKee was sacked for an 11-yard loss. That began what was a rough first half for McKee, but he made some nice throws in the second half, including a beautiful over-the-shoulder throw to DeVonta Smith for a touchdown. When McKee wasn’t under pressure, he was happy to stand in the pocket and take shots down the field, which helped Smith and Dallas Goedert put together usable fantasy days, but McKee obviously does not avoid pressure in the pocket the way that Jalen Hurts does. He could put together a solid day next week against a vulnerable Cowboys defense.

Whelp, that reversed course quickly. It was reported earlier Saturday that the team was not planning on placing their franchise quarterback on injured reserve, with the team going back on those comments less than seven hours later. Although not yet fully evident, it appears as if additional information was ascertained during the day. There is no telling how long Hurts will be away from the team, with most recent reporting simply labeling it an “indefinite” absence. Tanner McKee steps into the starting role and could be worthy of deep league consideration as a QB2, for the foreseeable future.

While Hurts still has no timetable to return, the Eagles haven’t even discussed the possibility of placing him on injured reserve, according to Schefter. That could change as there’s still a possibility Hurts could wind up on injured reserve if that’s where the medical information leads them. Most blood clots are treated with anticoagulants (blood thinners), which would sideline Hurts for a minimum of six weeks, according to Schefter’s sources. The best-case scenario, according to Schefter, seems to be if the blood clot is minor enough that doctors could begin treatment with anti-inflammatories. Two team doctors that Schefter polled also speculated that the 28-year-old quarterback could miss six weeks. Tanner McKee is in line to start at least a few games while Hurts is out.

Fowler reportedly spoke to “some people who are hopeful” that Hurts can avoid injured reserve. He described the situation as being “very much touch and go” and said Tanner McKee will “probably” start multiple games. The Eagles go on bye in Week 10, so if Hurts does land on injured reserve, the Eagles’ Week 11 game against the Steelers would be his earliest possible return.

Hurts’ blood clot was initially a superficial issue in his calf. Unfortunately, the clot has moved and the situation now appears to be quite serious and, per Rapoport, “scary.” Rapoport said Hurts will now undergo treatment, “which, a lot of times, is blood thinners.” If that treatment option is deemed necessary, Hurts would not be allowed to play. Rapoport believes Hurts will be sidelined in Week 6 “and likely beyond.” Tanner McKee is his replacement.

McKee, 26, is a towering pocket passer (6'6/231) with 97 career dropbacks. He has two career starts and has made appearances in two other contests, averaging 6.8 yards per attempt and a 73.8 percent adjusted completion rate. McKee was the subject of trade rumors last offseason, but luckily, the Eagles kept him. He faces a Panthers secondary missing its two starting perimeter cornerbacks, though he has almost exactly 72 hours to get himself ready and the Eagles’ pass-catching corps is banged up. He is a viable QB2 in superflex formats, but he offers a wide range of potential outcomes. McKee is backed up by rookie Cole Payton. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo thinks the team could reunite with Andy Dalton, whom they released last week.

Rico Dowdle rushed 15 times for 56 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ Week 8 win over the Browns.

Dowdle looked good in this one, and while he didn’t hit the home run play that Jaylen Warren did, he was ripping off big gains throughout the day. Dowdle played just six fewer snaps than Warren, ran four fewer routes, and had two fewer carries, so he needs to be rostered as an RB3 who would have low-end RB2 value if Warren were to get hurt.

Jaylen Warren rushed 17 times for 143 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ Week 8 win over the Browns.

Warren tied a career-high in rushing, but the Steelers opted to try and run out the clock with Rico Dowdle, on Warren’s birthday no less, so Warren was unable to set a new personal best. Warren delivered plenty of chunk gains in this game, including a huge 51-yard run, but he split work pretty evenly with Dowdle. Warren had two more carries and ran four more routes, but this was as close to a split backfield as you can get, so Warren will really need to deliver on his touches to keep producing fantasy value. If you can get an RB1 in a deal for him, it might not be a bad idea to search for offers with Pittsburgh on a bye next week.

Deshaun Watson completed 27-of-39 passes for 324 yards in the Browns’ 27-6, Week 8 loss to the Steelers.

The Browns were never really a threat to win this game. The Steelers only led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but the Browns gained nine total yards in that quarter. Even when the Browns were able to keep the game close, the Steelers always seemed to answer with a big defensive play, and Watson was sacked eight times. With the Browns trailing by two touchdowns for the entire second half, Watson was able to air it out, but of his 324 yards, 240 of them came to Harold Fannin Jr. and the two running backs. Despite the high yardage totals, it wasn’t really a great showing for Watson, who seemed flustered in the pocket and struggled to connect with his wide receivers. Things could get easier against the Saints next week though, so he remains on the QB2 radar.

Justin Jefferson caught 5-of-9 targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings’ Week 8 loss to the Lions.

Jefferson once again led the Minnesota offense in targets but it was Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson who had bigger statistical days in what was Kyler Murray’s best game as a Viking. Jefferson secured a short touchdown in the first half and was mostly invisible in the second half. He was seen shouting at no one in particular on the Minnesota sideline late in the fourth quarter. With just two games of more than 60 receiving yards, Jefferson is somewhat touchdown-reliant in the low-volume, run-first Vikings offense. He’ll face a porous Bills secondary in Week 9.

Joe Fagnano completed 10-of-21 passes for 91 yards and an interception in the Ravens’ 36-10, Week 8 loss to the Bills.

Injuries to Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe) resulted in Fagnano getting on the field with nearly half of the second quarter left to be played. The rookie UDFA performed as expected, completing fewer than 50 percent of his passes while taking three sacks and committing two turnovers. Fagnano looked a little more poised in the second half, with one of his throws resulting in a 22-yard completion to Rashod Bateman, but the Ravens’ QB room is in shambles heading into a short week. With Jackson likely to miss an extended period of time, and Huntley at risk of missing at least one game due to the short week, it’s possible Fagnano will draw the start at home against the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. It goes without saying that he can’t be trusted in any fantasy format, and he would put a serious cap on the upside of all of the Ravens’ key fantasy assets.

Aaron Rodgers completed 13-of-25 passes for 172 yards and an interception in the Steelers’ 26-6, Week 8 win over the Browns.

Rodgers wasn’t asked to do much in this game with the Steelers dominating on the ground, but he didn’t deliver many big plays on the chances he did have. Darnell Washington had a nice catch-and-run for a 58-yard gain, but the Steelers didn’t threaten down the field much throughout the game. The interception was certainly not Rodgers’ fault, however. He threw a great pass that hit DK Metcalf in the chest, but Metcalf popped the ball up into the air, and it was picked off. Rodgers is going to be a low-ceiling option in fantasy because the Steelers want to win with their defense and running game, but he should have better days than this. They won’t be in Week 9 though, since the Steelers are on a bye.

Kyler Murray completed 17-of-29 attempts for 210 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ Week 8 loss to the Lions, adding four rushes for 35 yards.

It was Murray’s best game as a Viking, and it came against a Detroit defense that was down a half dozen starters by the fourth quarter. Murray for once had a positive drop back EPA and eclipsed 200 passing yards for the third time this season in the run-heavy Minnesota offense. Murray’s best throw of the day came on a 51-yard bomb to Jordan Addison over double coverage. Murray has a couple well-times runs in high leverage situations too. His performance against the injury-riddled Lions secondary could be a good sign for Justin Jefferson and Addison going forward. They’ll face off against a vulnerable Buffalo secondary in Week 9.

Michael Penix completed 8-of-24 passes for 125 yards and four interceptions in the Falcons’ 16-0, Week 8 loss to the Bucs.

Penix got off to a poor start and his play spiraled from there. He threw a pass directly at Bucs linebacker Alex Anzalone’s chest on the first play of Atlanta’s second drive for an easy interception. Anzalone then took the ball away two Penix throws later by, again, simply standing in the throwing lane. Penix wasn’t seeing the field and nothing changed as the game went on. He threw two more interceptions and had several other passes that could have been caught by the Bucs. Even his best play, a 76-yard toss to Jahan Dotson, was a throw into double coverage where two Bucs defensive backs collided, leaving Dotson wide open at the last second. This looked like an homage to Cooper Rush’s two catastrophic starts to open the season. Penix should rebound in Week 9 versus the Bengals, but his fantasy stock is undoubtedly on the decline. He is shuffling to the back of the QB2 ranks for Week 9.

Jahmyr Gibbs had 23 rushes for 153 yards and a touchdown in the Lions’ Week 8 win against the Vikings, adding two catches for 15 yards.

Like all Minnesota opponents this season, the Lions got nothing going through the air. They resorted to a run-heavy game plan and shredded the Vikings defense on the ground for 228 yards. The rushing attack was led by Gibbs, who popped a handful of chunk runs in the second half after the Lions had mostly given up on attacking the Vikings through the air. This is Gibbs’ third 100-yard rushing effort of the 2026 season. His centrality in the Detroit offense makes Gibbs an elite play every week. He’ll take on the Dolphins in Week 9.
