Ladd McConkey (foot) is not on Los Angeles’ final Week 6 injury report.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said he did not know if McConkey or Quentin Johnston would be on snap counts on Sunday. Cool. What we do know is that the Chargers desperately need a win and McConkey is their best receiver, so the incentives are certainly aligned to get McConkey into the fantasy WR3 discussion even with a pitch count.

Justin Herbert and the flailing Chargers skill position players have appeared almost comically confused about all the pre-snap motion OC Mike McDaniel uses. That came through in the team’s embarrassing Week 6 loss to the Chiefs when players were bumping into each other during pre-snap motion calls from Herbert. Head coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged the team is considering narrowing the offensive playbook during their bye week. “Definitely looking at volume and where you can make it to where the players can understand,” Harbaugh said when asked about how Chargers players were adjusting to McDaniel’s complex offense. The Chargers have used pre-snap motion on 74 percent of their snaps, the fourth highest rate in the NFL. Last year they used motion on 56 percent of their snaps. Hopefully these adjustments lead to some production for the NFL’s worst offense.

McConkey exited the game after a 17-yard reception in the first quarter and was seen entering the blue medical tent before being helped to the locker room. The quickness with which he was ruled out could mean the injury is on the severe side. The Chargers are down to their fifth and sixth wideouts on the depth chart. Justin Herbert likely won’t be fantasy relevant for the rest of the season.

McConkey is on track to once again be active on game day, but it is unclear how involved he will be. Two limited sessions are a good sign, but it would be great to see him practice fully tomorrow. In that instance, starting him as a WR2 would be far more palatable.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
We, in turn, expect McConkey to be listed as a limited participant. An update will be provided if he practices in full. The Chargers’ No. 1 wide receiver was an emergency active last week, goose-egging in the box score. His early-week return to practice puts him on track to play in Week 6 against the Chiefs, but it would be great to see him practice in full by the end of the week.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
McConkey was active last week but an emergency-only player and played zero snaps. With the Chargers having a Week 7 bye, we’d be surprised if they pushed McConkey to play unless they really needed him. Unfortunately, since he was already active last week, we know that they may really need him. His status is up in the air ahead of Week 6.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
McConkey did not practice at all this week but was still given a questionable tag on Friday. He was always a long-shot to play after aggravating his foot injury in Week 4. With Quentin Johnston out this week as well, Tre’ Harris will be Justin Herbert’s No. 1 receiver. That puts him in the WR3 mix despite the Chargers’ dismal offensive performance through four weeks.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
McConkey did not practice all week — though they might tack something on in the non-media period on Friday to make it look better — and is clearly just trying to gut it out at this point. He’ll likely be on a snap count if he does play. But Denver’s cornerback room is severely banged up, so McConkey likely remains in low-end WR2 range this week.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #15
McConkey is firmly on the wrong side of questionable at this point, and unfortunately, the rest of the Chargers’ wide receiver corps is fairly banged up. The Chargers are on bye in Week 7. Hopefully, McConkey’s foot injury is not serious enough to keep him out until Week 8. Stay tuned.

Though head coach Jim Harbaugh ambiguously said we would get McConkey in practice, the 24-year-old is officially listed as a non-participant on Wednesday. Harbaugh also previously stated McConkey will be day-to-day after he re-aggravated the foot injury in Week 4. Ultimately, it’s unclear if McConkey will play this week given he generally pushes through injuries with little practice time, but a re-aggravation could lead to a game missed this time around. Stay tuned for practice reports later in the week to provide clarity on his Week 5 status.

The phrasing is slightly ambiguous, but we believe he is saying McConkey will be present and participating in some capacity — likely as a limited participant. Harbaugh told reporters yesterday that McConkey was considered day-to-day after aggravating his foot injury in Week 4 against the Seahawks. Getting in a limited session to begin the week gives him a chance to play in Week 5 against the Broncos.

Rico Dowdle (knee) is active for Week 7 against the Saints.

The knee issue was new for Dowdle and limited him to three partial practices this week. He was listed as questionable for Week 7 on Friday. Dowdle will once again form the 1B portion of Pittsburgh’s backfield committee. He’s a low-end RB3 versus the Saints.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Breece Hall (quad) is “unlikely” to play in Week 7 against the Dolphins.

Rapoport added that Hall might work out to see if he can go, but it’s “a bit early” for him to return. That means he won’t be playing this week. Hall returned to practice on Wednesday but never got in a full session. The team will give him another week to ramp up. He should be back for Week 8 versus the Raiders. Braelon Allen will draw the start again this week, putting him near the top of the RB2 ranks versus Miami.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Giants are expected to start J.J. McCarthy “beyond their Week 8 bye.”

The Giants pivoted to “NINE” after he lit up the Saints for 243 yards in the fourth quarter of Week 6. Having already spent some draft capital to acquire McCarthy, the team is going to give him an extended tryout as the starter. If he does well, the Giants will likely hang on to him as Jaxson Dart’s backup next year. They could also trade him in the offseason if he plays well to garner interest from other teams.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Cam Skattebo “is expected to resume his role as the team’s lead back” in Week 7 against the Texans.

Skattebo was benched for his fumbling issues last week. He did not touch the ball once, while Najee Harris, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary all got a few opportunities. The team then cut Harris a few days after Sunday’s loss. After a week in the doghouse, Skattebo appears to be back as the team’s top runner, though we still expect a committee approach from John Harbaugh. Rapoport even said that it’s unclear who will draw the start, so we aren’t sold on Skattebo as a safe fantasy option this week. At best, he’s a high-risk RB3.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Chiefs coach Andy Reid told Josh Simmons to leave a team meeting on Wednesday.

According to Rapoport, Simmons was sitting with his feet up during a meeting and Reid told him to put his feet down. Simmons then “pushed back” by saying he had to sit that way because of his back injury. Reid then sent him to get treatment from the training staff. Even Patrick Mahomes chimed in and told Simmons to leave. Simmons was placed on injured reserve the next day. The former first-round pick appeared in just eight games as a rookie and hasn’t taken the field yet this year. Now he’s becoming a problem in the locker room on top of his never-ending health issues. We wouldn’t expect to see him play in a Chiefs uniform again anytime soon.

Lions activated Brian Branch from the reserve/PUP list.

The team also activated center Cade Mays from the reserve/injured list. Week 7 will be the first game of the year for both players. Branch tore his Achilles in Week 14 last year and has been out ever since. Currently in last place in the NFC North, the Lions desperately needed this infusion of talent to get their season back on track.

Steelers declared CB Brandin Echols, WR Ben Skowronek, QB Drew Allar, QB Will Howard, RB Eli Heidenreich, and CB Terell Smith inactive for Week 7 against the Saints.

Echols and Skowronek are the only players on Pittsburgh’s active roster who will miss today’s game because of injuries, though they have several key players on IR. Both players have more snaps on special teams than offense or defense this year.

49ers activated Christian Kirk (calf) from injured reserve.

The 49ers would normally have Kirk on a pitch count for his first game of the year. With their top four receivers unavailable for today’s game, Kirk may be thrust into a full-time role right away. He will be in the mix for WR1 duties in San Francisco alongside Brandin Cooks and Jordan Watkins. Kirk is a long-shot FLEX option for his first game as a 49er.

Browns signed Maliek Collins to a two-year, $30 million contract extension.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal includes $23 million in total guarantees. Collins has heated up recently with 3.5 sacks over his past three games. He is coming off a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2025 and now has a chance to top that number this year. Collins’ new deal keeps him under contract with the Browns through 2028.

Ruiz and Shepard were the only Saints listed as questionable for Week 7. Jeremiah Wright will take his spot at right guard.
