Denzel Boston (foot) logs second limited practice

Denzel Boston (foot) was limited on Thursday.

The Browns’ rookie field-stretcher played through his foot injury last week against the Ravens, posting just a 1/15 receiving line. Ostensibly, the foot is bothering him, but he still has a chance to suit up in Week 7 against the Titans. Hopefully, Boston upgrades to full participation tomorrow.

Boston played through the injury last week, catching just 1-of-5 targets for 15 yards. The foot injury could be bugging him. Fortunately, he did not appear to suffer any setbacks. Boston is a WR3/FLEX against the Titans in Week 7.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
This was the worst game of Boston’s young career. After going for 40-plus yards in his first five games to start the season, the promising rookie was blanketed in coverage all afternoon and managed just one reception as a result. Boston may have had a chance at scoring were it not for a pass near the right side of the end zone sailing too far out of bounds for him to bring both feet down, but scoring opportunities were hard to come by in this one. Boston will be back on the fantasy radar as a WR3 next week against the Titans.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
He’ll be a usable WR3 against the Ravens this week. Boston has returned at least 41 yards in every start this year while hitting a deep gain seemingly weekly. The 22-year-old should be Cleveland’s No. 1 target again this week.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Of the (many) Browns in real danger of missing this week’s game against the Ravens, Boston seems to be in the best shape of actually playing. Still, it is two limited sessions in two tries and we wouldn’t be surprised if he wound up with a questionable tag on Friday.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
A limited practice to start the week is usually nothing more than maintenance. Boston should still be a safe bet to suit up on Sunday. The second-round rookie has already cemented himself as an impressive downfield threat with three touchdowns and three catches of 40+ yards. He’s managed several spike weeks despite the Browns’ up-and-down performances on offense. Health permitting, Boston will be a low-end WR3 for Week 6 versus Baltimore.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Boston’s score was his third in five games as a pro. This one was a 29-yard strike down the left sideline where Boston won a 1-on-1 matchup with CB Brandon Stephens. Boston’s yardage totals are not popping off the page in this limited offense, but his play-making ability has been. He has also reached at least 40 yards all five times out, giving him a non-zero floor. The rookie second-rounder continues to press his WR3 case heading into Week 6 against the Ravens.
  • CLE Wide Receiver

Boston has now led the Browns in receiving in three of the team’s first four games, made more impressive by the fact that those were the first four contests of the youngster’s professional career. The second-round rookie continues to flash big play potential after catching his third pass of 46 yards or longer, this time unable to find the end zone after scoring twice in his first two games. Boston still has room to grow considering he has seen just 22 targets in the first month of the season, and could reward fantasy managers that invested late-round picks in his services handsomely in the second half of his rookie year. He’ll be an upside FLEX option against the Jets in Week 5.

What to do with this info? Stash Boston at the very least. Per Palmer, the Browns “felt he was a true pro from the day he walked into the building.” In the same pre-Thursday Night Football news dump, Palmer said that Harold Fannin is the team’s No. 3 pass catcher, despite Fannin leading the team in targets. This could indicate that the Browns plan to ramp up Boston’s offensive involvement as the season progresses.

    CLE Tight End #44
This comes from Palmer’s pre-Thursday Night Football notes. After sharing the info, he tells readers to “read into that how you want.” Fannin currently leads the team in targets (18), though rookie WRs KC Concepcion (17) and Denzel Boston (15) are right behind him. If Palmer’s report is accurate, Fannin could slip to third in target share as the season progresses, but he remains a very talented player and target earner, deserving of a weekly TE1 ranking. Just file this away for now.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Boston’s 41 yards were his fewest in three games as a pro, though he has now contributed at least one 20-yard catch all three times out. On the rare occasions Deshaun Watson actually throws down-field, he’s looking only for Boston. That will lead to some spiked weeks, but Boston’s floor is too low to rank him inside the top 36 on a regular basis, including Thursday’s short-week home date with the Steelers.

Dalton Schultz (quad) was limited on Thursday.

Correcting a previous item, Schultz ended up practicing today. He was limited, as was Brevin Jordan (foot), who evidently picked up a new injury. Schultz’s return gives him a chance to face the Giants this week. Ideally, he will upgrade to full participation tomorrow, though it is possible he gets hit with the questionable tag if he remains limited.

Carson Beck (back) did not practice on Thursday.

Beck appeared on the injury report last Friday, as a limited participant. He remained limited on Wednesday and was downgraded today. Beat reporters saw him at practice briefly, but he ended up going inside with a trainer. This could help preserve Jacoby Brissett’s job security. Stay tuned.

Rashid Shaheed (hip) practiced in full on Thursday.

Shaheed will be good to go for the Seahawks’ Week 7 game against the Chiefs, barring a setback. Unfortunately, his terribly volatile performances keep him in the boom-bust FLEX tier despite four teams being on bye. For what it’s worth, this could be a fantasy-friendly game environment.

Jaylen Waddle (chest) was limited on Thursday.

The Broncos’ big-name offseason acquisition has totaled more than 35 yards just once all year, and now he has a chest injury. Waddle is on track to play, and he faces a beatable Cardinals pass defense this week, but he can only be treated as a FLEX starter at this time.

Jonah Coleman (ankle) practiced in full on Thursday.

Coleman is trending toward returning for the Broncos’ Week 7 game against the Cardinals. His teammate, RB Tyler Badie (thumb), remains sidelined. Coleman makes for a risky start if active, but the Broncos’ coaching staff likes him. He should be rostered in 12-team formats.

Mike Washington (foot/back) did not practice on Thursday.

Dang. This suggests Washington suffered one or both injuries yesterday in practice. He is firmly in the questionable camp and may have only a long shot at suiting up in Week 7 against the Rams. Without him, Ashton Jeanty should handle a solid workload. Dylan Laube could end up serving as the No. 2 running back.

Bears declared Kyle Monangai, LB T.J. Edwards, LB Jack Sanborn, OL Jordan McFadden, DT Jayden Loving, CB Nick McCloud and QB Case Keenum inactive for Week 7 against the Patriots.

D’Andre Swift will serve as the team’s top back, while Roschon Johnson rotates in behind him. Johnson’s Week 6 fumble could result in less playing time. The Bears face the Seahawks in Week 8. Monangai was unable to practice all week. Hopefully, he returns next week and can be on the field on game day. Keenum will serve as the emergency third quarterback today.

Christian Gonzalez (illness) is active for Week 7 against the Bears.

Gonzalez is active, but it sounds like he is not feeling great. ESPN’s Mike Reiss writes that Gonzalez “will attempt to play through” his illness. The Patriots declared DT Joshua Farmer, QB Behren Morton, G/C Ben Brown (knee), CB Karon Prunty (hamstring), CB Channing Canada (hamstring) and CB Carlton Davis III (neck) inactive for Week 7 against the Bears. Davis serves as the team’s No. 2 perimeter cornerback. Prunty and Canada are Gonzalez and Davis’ primary backups. The Bears’ passing game should play productively tonight.

Brock Bowers (hamstring/calf) practiced in full on Wednesday.

Phew. Seeing Bowers return to full participation today is heartening. The star tight end appeared on the injury report as a limited participant yesterday, leaving some questions as to when the injuries occured, and how severe they are. Ideall, he remains full tomorrow and can be started as an elite TE1 as usual against the Rams this week.

Trent McDuffie (groin) did not practice on Thursday.

McDuffie, the Rams’ No. 1 cornerback, and LB Nate Landman (concussion) were both sidelined today. Both players are on the wrong side of questionable for the Rams’ Week 7 game against the Raiders.
