Playing the Stadium Course (SC) at PGA WEST, sponsor invite and amateur Charles Reiter painted a 9-under-par 31-32=63 in the third round of the Desert Classic, up 67 places to T73 and matching the low round in the clubhouse with Adam Long (La Quinta CC).
The USC freshman is the third player to shoot a course-record 63 on the Stadium Course, joining Whee Kim at the 2012 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament and Jonathan Fricke in 2008. This is his second career TOUR start after a missed cut by seven here last year (68-70-77), also on a sponsor invite. Reiter, who attended Palm Desert High School, hit seven (of 14) fairways and 15 greens in regulation, gaining 1.692 strokes off-the-tee, 3.573 approaching and 5.431 tee-to-green. He smothered a lone bogey with eight birdies, all from inside of 13 feet, adding eagle-3 (from 10'5"). The World No. 2006 posted 1.400 putts per GIR and 1.518 SG: Putting, and is currently one outside the projected cut line on 8-under 208 (75-70-63).
