Josh Teater is considered a local legend at Keene Trace, site of this week’s Barbasol Championship in Lexington, Kentucky, where he’ll make his fifth event start.
The 43-year-old Teater, a Morehead State alum and Kentucky native whose hometown of Danville is about 40 minutes away from Keene Trace, is in the field on a sponsor exemption. He’s played primarily on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, making nine cuts in 17 starts with four top-25 finishes. His best finish was a T-7 at the AdventHealth Championship in May and more recently he was T-11 at the Wichita Open before missing the cut at the Live and Work in Maine Open. Teater has made one PGA Tour start this season, finishing T-22 in the Puerto Rico Open, and he hopes to put himself in position to snag a start in this season’s last major championship at The 150th Open. “That’s a great carrot to have out there in front of you,” he said regarding the lone Open spot up for grabs at the Barbasol. “Obviously, all of us here would like to go play St. Andrews especially. I’ve played in one of those at Muirfield, but I think St. Andrews would be even more special. But you’ve just got to attack it like you do any other week and be ready … on Thursday when you hit that first tee shot.” Visit link below to read Teater’s full comments.
