Making his tournament debut, PGA TOUR rookie and World No. 560 Curtis Thompson withdrew prior to his start of the twice, weather-delayed second round of the opposite-field Barbasol Championship.
At press time, no reason was provided for the 29-year-old’s second mid-tourney WD in 27 career events. It’s his second of the season in 23 events, joining the Wells Fargo five starts ago, where he WD (back) during R1, birdie-less 10-over thru nine holes. Today, Friday, the Floridian was not scheduled to begin R2 until 7:31 pm ET, but after opening with a 5-over 77 (1 birdie, 3 bogeys, 1 triple), decided to hit the eject button. He checked in 175th in the FedExCup standings, 9-for-22 on the season with one top 10, a career-best T7 at Bermuda 19 starts ago, and is in the published field at next week’s opposite-field Barracuda at Tahoe Mt. Club in Truckee, California.
