Brett White fired a 6-under 66 during Monday Qualifying for this week’s WM Phoenix Open, finishing second to earn one of three seats available for the main event.
The 29-year-old Eastern Michigan product went 8-for-20 last season on the Korn Ferry Tour. He got the job done today, though, circling eight birdies to erase a pair of blemishes. White finding his way into a PGA TOUR event is remarkable given the fact he was re-learning to walk just six years after being hospitalized with viral encephalitis. The lefty will certainly be a popular name for fans to cheer for this week at TPC Scottsdale. Others to qualify today included Andre Metgzer (-7) and Dalton Ward (-6). There were many regulars that fell short of qualifying today including Cole Hammer, Aaron Baddeley, Sam Stevens, Harry Hall, Martin Trainer, Bo Van Pelt, Scott Harrrington, Zac Blair, Ben Griffin, Kevin Chappell, Carson Young, and Austin Eckroat among others.
