Lane turned 52 on June 21. He’s played in 14 British Opens, including three at this year’s host course, Royal Lytham & St. Annes. He was one of three to survive at each of four Local Final Qualifying sites today. Paul Broadhust (137) and Rafael Echenique (138) also advanced from St. Annes Old Links. At Hillside, Dale Whitnell (9-under 68-67=135), Warren Bennett (136) and Steven Tiley (138) qualified. Morten Orum Madsen (8-under 65-71=136) was the medalist at Southport & Ainsdale where Ian Keenan (138) and Elliot Saltman (138) outlasted Chris Doak in a playoff for the final two berths. At 7-under 69-68=137, Steven Alker was the medalist at West Lancashire, leaving Scott Pinckney (139) and Steve O’Hara (139) to emerge from a four-way playoff with Marty Jertson and Richard Bentham.
